How easy is repasting with IC diamond? And how about re-repasting? I've heard it's hard to remove.

I think it's a chore to get to the area, but re-pasting in itself is easy.

When you open up the bottom of the computer the CPU and GPU are on the other side of the motherboard so it does take quite the tear down to get to them. Once you have then its pretty easy to do.

The new GS60 gold edition is coming with 860m Maxwell finally?
It's 4GB 860m unlike every other gs60 model, 4gb is identical to every 860m maxwell released so far, all of them were 4GB if that actually happened we might see maxwell in gs70

I played Crysis3 with Ultra settings @32fps and done the Nvidia Inspector settings, the max was 86c and averaged 71c, this is very good, before I would hit 93 easily, this work for me thanks.

Did anyone try the coolaboratory liquid metal pads on the GS70? I'm especially interested in those, but I'm only used to normal thermal grease.

And how about the dedicated notebook set with additional copper pads? http://coollaboratory.com/shop/prod...id/39/osCsid/a676b9fd80c289d26d303c2063010579

Is there a bigger gap between the coolers and the CPU/GPU in the GS70 which would make that special notebook cooling pad combination "liquid metal -> copper layer -> liquid metal" necessary? Or could I just use one liquid metal pad.

    Thank you in advance!

awesome for portability, very hot unless you modify some settings. 93C MAX on any game that requires any kind of decent graphics. I love it, just kinda wish I could have gotten the 880gtx

Are there any known VBIOS for the 870m, or EC mods for the GS70?

It's not a Stealth Pro, but I just ordered the GS70 Stealth -037 (860M 2GB) online yesterday from gentech. I wanted the Stealth Pro -210 with the 870M 6GB but with the way I customized both laptops, all the specs were the same except gpu and SSD storage.

Ultimately, it came down to getting either the Stealth -037 860M with a 250GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD vs. the Stealth Pro -210 870M with 2x128GB Stock SSD, and for my purposes (light gaming and school), I chose the 1st option. Unfortunately, getting the 870M and a 250GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD was not within my budget. I know this is a bad time to be buying a gaming laptop, but I really needed this for school. Had no choice but to buy now. I didn't have time to wait. Also, I bought this knowing I wouldn't upgrade it. I plan on using it for a few years without upgrading and then moving on to a desktop when I'm done with college. So for those wondering why I didn't just go with the 870M and upgrade the SSD at a later date, that's why.

Anyways, it should be here sometime next week. Really looking forward to it.

So back in the end of May I ordered the GS70 Stealth Pro-024 with the i7 4700 and 3GB 870M from TigerDirect. I don't exactly regret my decision now that I've done things like update the vBIOS according to the manufacturer, run MSI Afterburner with a temp threshold of 87 degrees, etc etc, but I still notice slight stuttering and throttling here and there while gaming on high-ish settings.

The question I have is this -- how badly did I get screwed? Assuming something goes wrong with this machine, I have two questions.
    a) is MSI doing anything to replace the old 024's with the new 6 GB 870M model? I've got the standard manufacturer warranty in addition to a 3 year non-accident-covering Squaretrade deal and am a bit cheesed that I bought something that was essentially new that's already been discontinued/revised.

    b) Is there a noticeable performance difference between the two versions of the machine?

GS70 has lower temperature due to larger heat capacity than GS60.

Have you tried reversing everything to stock configuration to verify?
Was your machine capable of running this configuration previously before any modification is done?

I was also looking into getting the GS70 Stealth Pro-024. The reason I went for GS70 Stealth -037 instead was because, unless I wasn't looking hard enough, I couldn't find a site anywhere that hosted the GS70 Stealth Pro-024 like gentech, xoticpc, etc. You could only buy it pre-made and then manually customize/upgrade/configure it later, which is exactly what I did not want to do.

Well, I didn't reverse the EC Firmware or VBIOS update (again, these were both all MSI-provided updates) for obvious reasons ;), but I killed the Afterburner custom temp. threshold and just ran everything stock and yeah, still throttling. It's not game-breaking but is still annoying.

    GentechPC,

When you repaste the GS70 Stealth Pro do you guys repaste only the CPU and GPU, what about replacing the thermal pads?

Hello everyone! I am undecided to buy the GS70 Stealth Pro or the MSI GT70-2PE8H11FD3K Gaming Notebook i7-4810MQ GTX880M SSD. I have found this 2 models respectively at 1300 and 1700 (in the latest case with a 27" inch screen). I have seen, reading this thread, that the stealth pro have problems regarding the temperatures. I couldn't find a thread for the GT70-2PE8H11FD3K. In your opinion what is the best choice? I would use it a lot for programming and playing games. The thing that I don't like a lot about the GT70-2PE8H11FD3K is that, in the site, it is wrote that the battery has just 2 hours of autonomy. I will use it overall at home and not travel with it, but in the case I need to travel for work, I would like to have a portable that last more than 2 hours (on browsing or programming at least).

Happy dance! The touchpad........... has been fixed!

As we've all tried, the Elantech driver did nothing.
So MSI just posted a new touchpad firmware for the entire GS lineup on their global website: MSI Global - Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Motherboard, Graphics and more
I flashed the firmware, rebooted, and now the touchpad is fully accurate and when I drag the cursor horizontally, the cursor moves pixel-by-pixel and no longer in a jittery zig-zag path.
Palm recognition seems to have improved as well.

Now the absolute last issue I have with this machine are the temperatures. :(

Well, a little experience from me:

I have been playing the ArchAge Beta this weekend. The first pretty high-end game. I ran everything on Very High settings.
My laptop got up to 93 degrees celsius. But besides the GPU getting hot, the entire laptop was extremely hot. After an hour of gaming, I couldn't rest my hand on the palm rests anymore, it was too hot and I could actually burn my hand I think. Anyway, I got a piece of cloth to lay my hand on, so I could still game. It was still annoying that when I didn't push a button (like holding the "w" for moving) not entirely in the center, I could touch some of the scolding hot case of the laptop.

Besides that, after gaming, I found the battery was on 87%, while I was sure I started with 100%!! The Adapter was connected. I guess the adapter can't deliver all the power, and the laptop surges the battery as well? what is the story behind this?

I'm still happy with the laptop though. I am going to use it for my study anyway (running virtual machines etc.) and casual gaming on the go. I have a pretty decent dekstop at home for killer-games (in this case during the ArchAge beta my PC wasn't available due to the RMA of the CPU cooler).

i updated this as well... took like 30 minutes too

unfortunately it still does not always recognize 2 finger TAP (not click) to act like right mouse button. it still does it randomly, sometimes 5 times in a row, then misses like 2 or 3 taps. can you confirm this is same for you as well?

That's what you'd imagine but comparing my GS60 to images of the GS70 it seems we have a two heat sinks, one per corner and are seeing real world lower temps by around 3 to 5c. The gs60 is the new model and has a slightly different cooling design.

Guys I have the last weeks one really annoying problem with my GS70 S Pro, and the last few days it became bigger:

Specifically, when browsing or even when I just have an xls or doc file open, my cpu spikes from 3-4% to 30-40% or even 100% at times. If I have, at the same time, an mp3 playing or listening a radio stream from the net, the audio stutters for few moments (about 0,1-0,5 second, depending of how big the cpu spike is).
My first thought was adobe flash player, and it seems to make the problem bigger, but I don't think its the source because the spikes happen even when I'm browsing with the flash plug in deactivated or even when I don't use flash while using the pc (f.e. as I've said above when I'm just writing in MS Office).

After a little monitoring I think the problem is caused by the process svchost.exe (NetworkService).

Any ideas of how I can fix it?

Both GS60 & GS70 have dual cooling design, but we see GS60 being more prone to overheating under maximum load, especially when it's equipped with a 870M.

Ah I could have swarn the gs60 had extra head sinks. Maybe I was mistaken. My GS60 is back with new motherboard. Good news is this 870m can run at even lower voltage so seems to be keeping itself quite cool. Crysis 3 is the killer!

    EDIT.

Its these's shots that made me think the GS60 has better cooling (click on link):

You are correct mardon, each cooling fan has additional fins at the top as well as the sides whereas the gs70 only has fins at the sides

    Here's the result from running Furmark on GS60 & GS70 and 860M & 870M.

    GS60 + 860M = 86C
    GS70 + 860M = 73C
    GS60 + 870M = 86C
    GS70 + 870M = 93C

On GS60, it has more opening, not more fins.
On GS70, the only opening is on the bottom side without rear opening.

Nope, the GS70 doesn't use a bottom "opening", it sucks the air through the speaker grill in the top.

Have you done repasting on your unit?
Unit is going to be throttled when the temperature reaches 93C so it should be at around 93C, but 94 is just one degree higher so it is possible to show 94C.
