How about noise levels ? :)
During WebBrowsing/Word, Watching 1080p YT video, Gaming :)

    I have an offer to buy GS70(FHD TN,8GB RAM, 3GB vRAM, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD) for 1370€
    or GS60(FHD PLS, 8GB RAM, 3GB vRAM, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD) for 1430€

I really like that PLS panel with almost 270° view angle but I've seen guys talking about that it gets pretty loud while gaming or even just browsing through websites...

I really don't know which one to take :/

Just pulled the trigger on a GS70 970m 6GB -099 from HIDevolution. Hopefully, it gets here this weekend or on Mon and not run into so many issues like the P35X v3-CF1 I just shipped back to OCUK. *knocks on his wooden table*

I ran a couple of benchmarks on Far Cry 4 this morning, one in Comfort Mode and 2 in Sport Mode.

All 3 were on Ultra setting and I had Fraps record score during the escape from fortress section at the start of the game.

    Comfort mode:-
    Min - 31
    Max - 49
    Avg - 41
Max decibel registered on phone app was 61, about 15 to 20 cm away from GPU vent.

On Sport the average fps was 51 to 54 using the same ultra settings. Here max decibel reading was between 66 and 68.

Not scientific in anyway but showing a good increase between comfort and sport modes.

No cpu throttling at any point and max temp on cpu was 82 in Sport Mode. Likewise GPU maxed out in the low 80's.

I'm sure with a bit on tinkering in the game settings you could get more fps even on the Ultra settings.

    How your ambient temp?

    Was you using cooling pad?

How long did you do the test?

    Thanks ahead!

No cooler fan used and ambient room temp was 23.

Did the same run that lasted about 5 minutes in the games from when you walk down to stairs and witness the guy being tortured.

A - guy being tortured and then opening door to cut scene and you being rescued

B - making a run for it out the door toward waiting vehicle with lots of gun fire smoke etc and the getting vehicle to escape

C - escaping on vehicle, shooting at enemies on quad bikes and then getting rammed of the road.

All runs were on the Ultra Setting with no changes. Power remained on Balanced.

Just picked this up after much deliberation on laptops.

Grabbed it from Amazon, on sale atm fyi:
    Amazon.com : MSI Computer GS70 STEALTH GS70 STEALTH PRO-003;9S7-177314-003 17.3-Inch Laptop : Computers & Accessories

I'm gonna have to bug them about the Pic kYour Path nvidia deal so I can get FC4. Has anyone had any luck getting Amazon to give them the keys for laptop purchases despite them not being listed on their site? They seem to only list the deal for video cards, despite Nvidia saying it applies to 900m series notebooks.

I see definite improvements with a cooling pad ... Cryo x60 modded with the grill cut out over each 120mm fan; about 4 or 5 degrees across the board ...

Also, using an external monitor today, I played Dragon Age Inquisition for a few hours with the lid closed ... temps were about 3C hotter with the lid closed ...

That's awesome - was wondering how hot it would get with the lid closed. Seems like having a cooler will offset the temps when closed?

Just decided to purchase the laptop today - now just to decide who to purchase it from.

Well I don't know the physics but I can tell you the chassis is ALWAYS cool to the touch when using the cooling base. And some air does get in from underneath. It might not be directly going into the CPU or GPU fans but it's cooling other stuff.

    I have a Zalman ZM-NC2000NT http://www.zalman.co.kr/global/product/Product_Read.php?Idx=608
It's like a perfect match! Looks great and the GS70 fits awesome on it. It's sleek and aluminum. Very sober unlike pretty much any other cooling base I saw and tried. I love it.

Little technical question for those with more knowledge than myself ...

The stock G70 power supply block is rated at 150 watts; I think this is probably okay but I've seen some online tests that have shown power draws greater than this...

Further, after about 3 hours of continuous Dragon Age: Inquisition today, I noticed that the stock power supply was SUPER hot; not burn your hand hot but hot enough to make me a bit concerned about it ...

So does anyone know how to go about sourcing a replacement that has the same connector but that's rated for a higher wattage? Say 180 watts or even more? As with my desktop, I'd really prefer to go overkill when it comes to power provision but just don't know the terminology/specs to proper hunt one down ...

    Thanks for any info ...

Anytime, are there any EC fan profiles and BIOS hacks for the 970m? Or they just for GS60'S only?

Let us know how they work. I'm thinking of getting one but gotta make sure my isn't a lemon before buying accessories. Don't want to make the same mistake I did with the P35X v3 and ended up returning everything.

Currently doing a fresh install of W8.1 Pro on my shiny new GS70 970m 6GB. So far very impressed with this laptop but the bloatware is strong in this one.

Spent 3 hours playing crysis 3 and Far Cry 4. Ultra settings and max the Cpu got was 88 and GPU 89. No throttling at any point. Was playing with laptop on my lap and no cooler so I would imagine if it was on a desk it could potentially run cooler. Having said that, with no throttling and settings ramped up to max it was running like a dream. Was using headset so couldn't exactly tell the noise but I wouldn't imagine it was too quiet. However for such a thin laptop I can live with that.

I was running 3DMark last night and max CPU temp I got was 88 also. Can't remember GPU but it was low. It's is without a cooler and laptop was propped up only. I'll post my results when I'm in front of my laptop later. I'm very impressed with this laptop and glad I got it.

    http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/4804412

    temps: CPU - 88C
    GPU - 87C

EDIT: How do I get the keyboard lights to stick? I selected the 2nd option and sometimes it goes back to the 1st red, white, blue coloring for the keyboard back lighting. I even made a profile but it always goes back to the 1st color.

Hey guys, just purchased a GS70 today and was really stoked on the specs/price. I am really unhappy with how hot and loud it gets under load. I was playing World of Warcraft which is by no means an intensive game and it was pushing the CPU to 80ish and the GPU to over 85 degrees kicking the already loud fans into hyperdrive. Did I get a bump laptop or is this normal? My old Lenovo y510 with dual 760Ms never got this loud althought it did get warm. I can deal with the heat but the fan noise is ludicrous.

    Any ideas?

You can try a repaste or repad if you like. Try propping up the back feet of the machine with something 1-2 cm tall.

I would prefer not to crack the case if this is fixable via exchange. Do those temps/fan noise sound normal for running a game like WoW? I could understand that kind of noise/heat playing say Far Cry 3 or 4.

Were you wearing flame retardant pants? My would have caught on fire it my gs70 got that hot with no cooling pad. How was the fan noise at that point? As soon as my hits 85+ it sounds like a jet taking off.

Haha, I wont say it wasn't hot but not enough for me to place laptop on a table or cooler. Yesterday was a one off as I would be playing at my desk normally. I would suggest changing the profile you are using to comfort, pro ably don't need sport setting as I wouldn't I aging it's too graphics intensive so boosting the GPU won't be necessary.

Anyone tried the gs70 with a laptop cooler? Interested to know what setup works as the fan at the bottom blow out and not in me thinks. There is a vent further down near the centre, wonder if a fan setup that blows cold air in at this point would work.

I usually play with headphones in, maybe try it with the build I speakers at some point. I expect it to run hot, let's be honest it's soo thin you have to compromise somewhere.

Ya I have the 970m. I was playing World of Warcraft yesterday with ultra settings and in Sport Mode And it pushed temps to 85 on the GPU and was pretty uncomfortable on my lap without careful positioning. The fans were incredibly loud as well.

WoW is not a demanding game, but with ultra setting, sport mode, and especially GPU will just render as much framerate as it could, i think its behavior is understandable.

Hey guys I have a question.
I'm having some issues with my RAID array so I want to do a fresh start, mount it again and format it.
How do I have access to Windows 8.1 again? I have no serial number under the chassis, how can I reinstall my genuine windows software that came with the notebook?

    Thanks!

    EDIT*
With the F3 recovery function, Windows will install from the recovery partition. where is this partition located? If I dismount and format the raid-0 array will I lose it?

My recovery was on the 1TB HDD before I repartition it.

If you installed the right Windows version, then it becomes genuine on its own.

EDIT: So I got this in the mail today and works perfectly

Literally on the verge of clicking "buy" for the GS70 Stealth Pro-099, but am curious on the screen. Xoticpc has 3 options, 2 matte and one glossy. I'm leaning towards the matte 72% gamut, good option? How's it compare to the GS60 Ghost Pro-064 screen? Better?

    Thanks!

You might PM "Hutsady" here at the forums .. he's a rep for Xotic .. he had told me recently that the panels they have as 3rd party options weren't compatible with the new Stealth models due to some connector issues ...

Whether that is still the case or not is anybodies guess but maybe you could PM him and ask or perhaps he'll chime in, here ...

Regarding the stock screen, however... ... it is a *VERY nice screen for gaming: really good color contrast (especially with a good .ICC profile), excellent brightness, very crisp and just overall a banging TN panel (among the best I've seen on a laptop); my only gripe is that it tends to run a bit towards the "cool" side of things in regards to general color output ... the whites have just the slightest tilt towards the "blue" side of things (versus "red" for warm, etc.) ... calibration helps a bit but not completely. For what it's worth, though .. the only time I notice the "cool" aspect is when working dual monitor side by side with other monitors and strictly during desktop operation.

During gaming, the mentioned tilt towards coolness is a complete non issue and isn't visible at all due simply to the varied imagery present in any given game (as opposed to looking at a word processor page with an all white background) ...

Great laptop man ... def check it out ... and yeah, stock screen is excellent ...

The reason I got the MS70 is because the GS60 is a PiTA to replace RAM and storage. You have to take almost everything apart to change anything. At least, with the GS70, you just take out the bottom panel to change msata ssds, hdd, wifi card, etc... Another reason is because my P35Xv3-CF1, I ordered had issues with new drivers and I returned it to get the GS70. I do miss the 980m power but the CPU in the GS60/70 970m runs so much cooler vs the P35X 980m.

I agree ... the GS60 would be a huge nightmare to upgrade whereas the GS70 is only a "slight" nightmare ... at least for RAM and to re paste, since even with the GS70, you have to remove the entire motherboard to get at the ram and heat sinks ...

Funny thing, I just watched a GS70 dis assembly video three times today just to get ready to upgrade mine from 12gb of RAM to 16gb. Going to just watch and re watch that video until I can repeat every ribbon cable and screw removal in my brain before I actually do it ... would have a stroke if I got in the middle of it and forgot what went where ....

This is the dis assembly video of which I speak, BTW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PitR1QFZ91c

Enjoy the GS70 ... I had a Gigabyte P35G v2 before this and though I found it to be a super stable and great running machine, I just couldn't get used to the flimsy keyboard and otherwise pretty bad key press action (I type a LOT) ... the GS70 in comparison, is like a Bentley in regards to keyboard and general build quality. The P35G v2 was much easier to upgrade the RAM on, though ... that's for sure. Oh well .. trade offs ...

Thanks for the answers folks! I was told by Xotic that the 72% screen is basically the same as stock as far as gaming is concerned, but is a bit better for photo editing and similar functions. I'm considering it as I do a minor amount of photo editing. Not sure if it's worth the extra $ though. If the stock screen great, I may just stick with that.

I've got my eye on the 099 version so I can choose drives. Debating between 2 x 256 mSata Raid 0 or a larger single 512 mSata solution. I'll most likely grab a 1TB EVO to replace the mech drive.

So I guess they can still offer alternatives to the stock screen, then ... nice.

And def go RAID 0 (as long as you have a good backup plan) ...

I had single mSATA (nice) .. then dual 512gb mSATA's in RAID 0 (Fantastic) ... and currently triple 512gb mSATA's in RAID 0 (RIDICULOUS!) ...

    ;-) ...

The speed of the mSATA RAID 0 set up ... be it x2 drives or x3 ... just destroys the already excellent single mSATA in regards to throughput ...

I've only used about 300gb of the entire 1.5TB array ... and that's precisely what I wanted ... it makes daily imaging really fast and leaves me plenty of array space for one off video editing projects that I regularly do and which, at times can take upwards of 500+gb or more of space for media files ...

    Love RAID 0 ...

Pretty much all of the MSI-authorized BTO resellers offer customizable options for their customers.
RAID 0 on SSD definitely rocks on everything you throw at it, without less worry to data loss that happens more frequently with HDDs.
