So does this mean this laptop cannot manage 2k 4k ext. monitors?

Looks like the first link is a 4K screen which is tough for most video cards out right now. Maybe 2x 980M will run it smoothly but 2x 965M may struggle. The second like is a 1080P which should be fine for this computer.

first one is 4k yes but i wouldn't play in 4k.. only watching videos in 4k and games in 1k
that would work then no ?
Second one is not 1k but 2k very good and cheaper ..

If you're playing in 1920x1080 then you wont have any issues with performance.

Hey guys I'm having an issue with my GS 70 Stealth Pro.
The orange light for the nvidia graphics is ALWAYS on, even when I'm not doing anything it stays on. The CPU fan is also always ON.

I ran a malware check and it's clean. It's a bit hotter in the summer, can that be it? Even for the graphics?

How do you get into the touchpad control center? I'd like to try to calibrate it or something, I downloaded the drivers off of msi's website but it hasn't changed how bad the trackpad is and I can't find any icon for it in the programs tray?

It's okay when making larger swipes but more refined and controled are really tough, I barely move it and it doesn't move smoothly or that slowly. Sort of skips around....

    Any ideas?

hey folks, got a problem maybe someone can help (win7 ultimate, 870m, 4700HQ )

a few weeks ago my gs70 began constantly ramping up and down the cpu fan. normally the fan was running very slow and quiet. now it constantly starts up and goes down again. 1 sec off then 3 sec on, all the time.
when i start a game and optimus kicks in (orange power led), and then alt-tab to desktop the cpu fan runs on a constant low level (not the normal lowest but a bit faster). when i quit the game and the led goes white again it starts ramping up and down again.

any idea how to fix this?

Has anyone encountered an issue with the touchpad drivers where all of the click functionalities stop working? I can't click or tap on anything when the drivers are installed. Movement works fine but no click functions work, it doesn't matter what the settings are in the elan setup are.

BUT when I uninstall the drivers and windows uses the basic default touchpad driver it works fine. Tap click and push click both function when the driver isn't installed. It's really strange, it just started out of nowhere yesterday but I have no idea what caused it. Enabling/disabling the touchpad does nothing, using an external mouse and clicking etc works fine on the mouse.

I've never seen anything like this. Any ideas?

I haven't had any luck either. I tried to install different drivers to customized the touch pad. (I have a tendency to leave one finger on the touch pad while I move the mouse causing it to zoom in and out) but haven't had any luck either.

Ya that was an annoyance especially with my habits in chrome where I use the CTRL commands a ton, it was always zooming in the pages when I'd scroll to the top with two fingers and then do any command like ctrl+n or ctrl+w etc.

But at least the click worked. It definitely seems like it's software related since when the elan drivers are uninstalled the click and tap to click work as intended. I just don't see any options that were changed anywhere so I'm really at a loss as to whats causing it.

I've done the whole revert to default settings in the elan control panel etc. but this doesn't do anything.

They aren't available yet, the priority is on the newest models first, and then gradually adding support for other models.

Found it. It seems they only have it for the broadwell version. Thats the one I'm getting anyway. maybe those drivers would work for the haswell version as well.

Yes, newer models first, and then older models, but most likely released within the past one year.

My 3yr old GT70 is finally dieing. Well only as a laptop as it needs to be plugged in 24/7 but it's still going strong as a desktop. I've put it through ALOT of hard gaming and it's still a beast. I even burnt out my first nvidia 675m and MSI replaced it for free!! so I'm sticking with MSI!!!

I'm looking to buy a GS70 and have no money limit. Got a few questions

    1. Is the GS70 Stealth Pro-607 just a 003 with a 5th gen CPU? Or is there more to it?

    2. Is MSI going to redesign the gs70 anytime soon? How many times has MSI redesigned the GS70?

    3. The 607 is the only 5th gen intel model I see? So is it the better model?

    4. 97 vs 607? 97 has a 4th gen intel and a 970m 6GB while 607 sports a 5th gen intel and a 970m 3GB.

    5. Is the raid controller built into the BIOS level or on the drives? (reimaging question)

    6. xotic pc vs newegg vs MSI's Amazon store vs others

    7. Whats with the 2QE? is that a redesigned model? and why are none for sale anywhere?

    Pretty much.

Not really, GS70 has not been revised yet.

    3. The 607 is the only 5th gen intel model I see? So is it the better model?
Just the CPU which is newer, and more efficient.
All of the 5th gen models are shown below.
    http://us.msi.com/product/nb/GS70-Stealth-Pro-GTX-970M.html#hero-specification&sku_no=444

    Yes.

    Cannot comment on this.

    7. Whats with the 2QE? is that a redesigned model? and why are none for sale anywhere?
2QE is just a sub-model number, it is actually the latest version.

    Hi guys,

If possible, can anyone tell me what drivers / firmware I can use from the 5th gen Stealth pro on my 4th gen Stealth pro. I've been running win 10 on my desktop seems pretty stable and would like to do a clean install of 10 on my laptop. Also any warnings of upgrading would be nice. Is there some trick to the UEFI installation of windows 10?

    Kind Regards

Thanks porky, but I'm assuming i cannot install some of those drivers on my 4th gen i7 because they have been made for the 5th gen i7? I'm aware of the drivers and thought somebody here might have experience installing them on their 4th gen and could tell me which ones to avoid.. but maybe i should just wait.

    Check this link posted

Most of those device drivers should work. I'm not updating until all the bugs are worked out. If you read back about two pages some people talk about the update and I recall it went well for them. But on other threads several have rolled back to Win8 due to difficulties.

Yeah, I was going to quote that I assume some general stuff might work like the dragon engine. I wouldn’t probably download some of the more specific stuff. Might want to wait a bit for some clarification.

Just a little word about enhanced cooling on the GS70...

Typically, just running stock and in a 75C room, most of my games will max out around 82C; this is okay by me and especially for the thinness of this machine and I never see any throttling at that temp...

But because I plan on keeping the GS70 as long as possible, I've tried to do anything I can to reduce GPU/CPU temps...

The following, very affordable hack has been *extremely* beneficial. It really works for me as I generally use my machine only at the office, where it resides on a notebook cooler and outputs to an external monitor; in other words, the very same, static, desktop-like scenario is used every day ...

I bought this dual 80mm USB fan kit for about $13.00 off of Amazon: Cooler Guys Dual 80mm Fans

Each morning, as part of my daily laptop setup on my desk, I simply place the two fans over the CPU/GPU air intake areas of my GS70 and leave them there all day, like so:

    ...

    ...

The fans are totally silent and come with some little rubber feet that both hold the fans off of the laptop surface a bit and as well, prevent scratches. The adhesive on the rubber feet seriously suck, though and they kept falling off so I had to glue them on with some decent glue in order to get them to stick onto the fans permanently. I've found the best placement of the fans to be as shown in the above pic...

With this set up, I never see the GPU rise above 76C (down from 82C) ... which is a really decent 6C drop in load temps. I just played two hours of Dragon Age Inquisition at Med/High settings (generally 75 to 110FPS continuously) and temps never went past 75C on the GPU.

CPU temps have been similarly affected but not quite as dramatic as the GPU temps, but them again, I don't really do anything to stress the CPU in the same manner as I daily stress the GPU when gaming. I do know the CPU *idle* temp is way lower. Without the fans, it would idle at around 46C and now it idles at 38C.

It's a really affordable and really great hack/mod that I highly recommend if you use your GS70 daily and in a static, non-mobile scenario (office desktop replacement, etc.). On the go, I don't use the fans, they simply stay on my desk at work for when I set up each morning. Then again, when mobile, I never find myself gaming, either and so I don't really need them outside of the day job setting.

$13.00 for a 6C+ drop in GPU temps ... not bad as cooling hacks go.

    FYI.

So with the way this laptop cools its self you have to have the screen opened the whole time? No closing the lid and gaming on a larger screen.

It cools better with the lid open but even with the lid shut, mine never gets hot enough to throttle ... the main CPU/GPU air intakes are on top (therefore the fan placement). There are vents on the bottom, but I think they are more so for cooling the chassis in general; I do notice a ~2/3C drop in temps when resting the laptop on my cooling pad.

RE: the lid? I've found that closing the lid brings load temps up about 2-3C ... but again, I've still never seen throttling. I've just personally decided to leave the lid open, even though I use an external monitor at work (and also use both at the same time very often so as to facilitate more desktop space).

All that said, for the form factor, the cooling on the GS70 is pretty amazing...

Hi I just ordered my pc from you guys and had a quick question for an issue im facing. Wondering if you seen anything like it before. So far everything is pretty good but I’m not sure if the issues I’m having are graphical. I have all the Windows 10 drivers on MSI's website so updated the laptop to windows 10. The issue I’m having is I always get graphical oddities. I could be watching a YouTube video and it suddenly blurs for a few seconds and as soon as I move the moue it clears up. Sometimes it doesn’t blur but green/purple I want to say pixels but it’s not individual it will be like a chunk of the images on the screen will turn green/purple in certain areas and then it will disappear again when I move the mouse. I saw on MSI's website they don’t list NVDIA drivers for the laptop or they do but the link is dead. Do you know what could be causing the issue? I’m on NVDIAs latest drivers right now.

Try installing the Nvidia 353.xx drivers to see if that helps. Not sure if downloading a Codec pack will help with Windows 10, but they did previously. You can also try doing that.

I have ordered the GS70 stealth Pro 097 and have a couple of questions.

Are there any direct instructions on how to install windows 7 on this machine via USB?

I use a software for 3d animation that has a bottleneck using 8.1 or 10. I see that the MSI site has windows7 drivers and I would like to know if this has been done.

I did a search and it placed me on this page?

Can someone educate me in the 3 SSD drives and how they work with Raid.

    Again, thanks in advance

I'm no tech-savvy but the main point I had to do when I install Windows 7 on mine was to disable secure boot. For the raid, I think it's hardware and your system already sees it as one drive. At least that's how my experience is. I didn't notice any software to manage the raid that's preinstalled.

That could be the screen, the GPU, or the drivers. Have you tried different driver versions: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us

Yeah I was on the latest driver version but I'm going to go back and see if it makes a difference. It's weird because it only happens on certain sites like YouTube and Video hosts sites. I never see it on sites like Netflix. This leads me to belive it's not a hardware issue. What do you think since it only occurs on certain websites?

I would still try different driver versions as those are essentially software programs.

    1. Most important part is Secure Boot which needs to be disabled.
    2. Use Win7 ISO build tool to create a bootable USB flash drive.
    3. Boot from USB flash drive (via USB 2.0 port) then proceed with Win7 installation.
Since you have a RAID array, you may need to load the RAID driver during the beginning of installation.
Be sure to download IRST RAID driver and place it on the USB flash drive as well since you will have to load driver before the installation software can detect the array.

    Try these tips :

    1. Is it only on one specific browser? If yes, try another one.
    2. Is it only happening in full screen? If yes, try downloading/reinstalling dxd drivers.

I feel pretty stupid for asking this but...the SSD Drives are Msata cards, I assume with mine it's 3 128 gig cards. Ok here is the question....

Is this seen as 1 drive?

Yep, I am sorry because I have built 5-6 high end cpu back in the day of 100 meg hard drives and cga video cards..

Now I just buy this stuff off the shelf..

If you run RAID 0 array with all three drives in it then you will see one logical drive.
If you run SATA mode, then you will be able to use each drive independently.

Today I turned on my pc and hear crazy sounds like roulette, it got me fkin scared.

After investigation I found that my backpack is full of silica gel balls which got out of the small paper packing they are usually in. And I always put my laptop there and they somehow got into my fan openings. Now whenever fan or both fans are working it makes this noise cause they are flying in there somewhere. I managed to get few out just by quaking laptop, but not sure if all will go out like that.

What do you think, should i open panel and try cleaning it ? I even still got warranty sticker on it.

Yes, you should open it up to clean up thoroughly.
Don't worry about the sticker as long as the process does not cause any types of physical damages to the system itself.

    Hello everyone, first post here.

I bought an MSI GS70 2QE last December, and since last week it started making a disturbing noise from the right fan (CPU fan if I am correct). Everytime the fan is active, you can hear an additional rattling noise, while when the fan is off, obviously no noise can be heard.

I already tried cleaning it with an air compressor, from the right air conduct. It stopped the noise somehow for few hours, then started again.

What can it be the cause? Shall I open the notebook and try to clean it or replace the fan directly? Anyone had similar experience? So far the notebook has been great, but I wasn't expecting to have such a problem after a short time...

Sounds like the fan maybe loose or the bearings may be wearing causing it to wobble. The air blast may have set it upright until it could go off center again. If you are not comfortable opening it up, it's RMA time. Don't want to risk burning up a component.

I’m watching the device for now. Seems the error doesn’t happen quite as much in chrome. Not sure what going on here then. May be a Firefox issue.

On a side not what should idle temps for this pc be? I’m a little concerned how the cpu side fan ramps up while performing mundane tasks. Netflix and Firefox seem to have this at around 65 Degrees Celsius in hardware info. Seems to idle around 50 degrees Celsius. Is that normal? I had the IC Diamond Thermal paste replacement job done.
