If you think the Envy 17 is too wide you're not going to like the GT760 either. How about the Clevo W860cu 15.6" with the HD5870?
I'm not expecting notebooks with a 400M card to start shipping until August....even later than that for the GT660/760. -
Aren't Clevo's huge? The thickness of the base that is. Also I ain't really looking for a high end laptop, I just want one with good style, excellent processor, and good graphics cards to run games for say the next 3 years, I mainly play mmorpgs, but I want to be able to play Bad Company 2 on it, at low-medium settings. It would be great if it had discrete graphics card which I could get it upgraded down the line.\
God damn it, I wished you didn't mention that. Now I might really just wait for it, I mean it is like 3 months from now or so. -
Mobile Fermi is expected to come out soon, but Sandy Bridge is only coming out very late this year, and it probably won't be available in a decent machine until a couple of months into 2011. Don't hold your breath.

Well if Sandy Bridge lives up to what it's supposed to be, could be quite the momentus shift unless you're already rolling with a quad
-
Kill me now, just release the damn GT660 so I can see what upgrades some retailers are going to add. AGGGHH!!!@#!@
-
My money's on a mid-July to August release.
-
The GT660 has an official product and manual pages up now on msi.com so it shouldn't be too much longer.
Don't be misled by:
The 35mm thickness on the spec tab also seems to be a typo since the manual says the GT660 is 47.5-55mm at it's thickest, and that is backed up by the specs listed here. -
Hmm, no mention of the different color variant of the GT660, maybe they kept that for the model with SLI/ Fermi..?
At last now they showed their product on the website, it can become available very soon, which means reviews can start showing up. I'm really interested how does the audio perform and whats the battery life with the 9- cell battery. -
Here's another shot of the blue....maybe the black one is the barebones.

Well ... the guy said that it will be available at the end of June or beginning of July. Also something strange ... he said that it comes with GTS 285, not GTX. I've checked notebookcheck and there is no such card up to now.
-
The sticker on the notebook clearly says GTS, so it's not a mistake. Interesting.
-
They announced everywhere that it's a GTX, so I see no reason for it to be a GTS. Was simply a mistake.
Looks good. -
As far as im aware theres no such thing, 285 only came in GTS format, its possible they would do a 275 gts or 360/380 gts but im fairly certain that gts 285 doesnt exist.
Its gota be 285 GTX, or fermi 4 series. -
Because no one has ever made a typo on a sticker?
-
Are you guys replying to this now? I talked about this like 4 pages back. On all the stickers for the GT660 it said GTS 285M which doesn't exist and most of all it will suck. Hahaha yeh, its a typo, but I find it funny no one bothered to check it, for all the notebooks.
-
We only replied because the word gts has been mentioned a second time, the first timed we've stayed passive as we know its an error.
If i've heard the video quite accurately, i think the MSI were playing things using dynaudio, and they did actually sound really good. -
I have to say I got the same impression, the sound from the speakers seemed quite "clear" despite all the noise from the surroundings.
-
Its the depth of the MSI narrators voice in the video clip which was displaying on screen,
Its much deeper then the 725's system (And i've got it setup to really push midtones out well that cover bass frequencies) so i class my 725's speakers as working admirably, but the dynaudio was so much further from what i heard. -
Anyone think there will be much increase in performance for the GT660, with the TDE, ECO and bunch of stuff MSI offers?
Also anyone know if GT660 with come with facial recognition software? -
The darker color one looks so much better.
And on there official web page for this laptop it clearly says GTX 285M. -
Personal preference.
I'd like to see a GT660/760 that used the faux brushed aluminum paint job of the GE700. -

GTX285M

$1699
-
I'm with you on that. I don't see how this is an improvement over the GX640. Other than the case / body / keyboard perhaps.
-
WOW.
Just wow.
I can't see how this price point is competitive. Not even 1600x900. Still no Blu-Ray drive, not that you'd need it at this native resolution. And what's up with the landing lights around the body??? That's their idea of an illuminated keyboard?
I'll stick with the 740
-
holy cr@p!!! That sucks. At least it's a light 7.7 lbs.
-
Light? 7.7lb for 16" is light? That's even heavier than the Asus G60, which is beasty already.
-
This is quite disappointing. I hoped at least for 1600x900. Looks like I'll stick with my G51. And the price $1500... no comment.
Maaybe the future variants of the GT660 will be better, but if they priced a 285M GTX so high, what will they do with Fermi/SLI? -
Seems like MSI is pretty unpredictable. Incredible value in one product then a ripoff for another. Kind of like bipolar disorder. At least just pick a marketing method and go with it. Either always provide bang for the buck notebooks like Asus for the poor gamer or always rip image/status conscious people off like Apple. Either way establishes a good user base. But not mixing them.
-
Swing and a miss for MSI. And Nvidia. Especially Nvidia.
-
Well, I wouldn't think this is much different than the Asus G53 coming, its really more about what people want in a notebook. The price is a bit higher than G53, but hell its cheaper than the $3k I was going to spend on a Dell XPS 16. The overall look of the notebook, is great, I love that it has theater class speakers, the LED lightshow might become usefull, since it lights up on the side where the noise is coming, it might work when playing FPS games and telling you where the enemy is shooting from. The TDE+ technology might improve the notebook quite substantially, who knows. The only real thing I am not sure about the notebook is the native resolution, its quite low. Don't know if it will be good for gaming, but I do find higher resolutions strain te eyes like crazy.
-
Well, for gaming, low resolution is fine. But problem is, it's going to be Q3 2010 already, and the GTX285M is by all measures pretty much outdated hardware. The G53 at least promises something new. The lights... I'm not sure how much you can actually see, because they look as though they can only be seen from the side not the front.
-
umm...I was obviously being sarcastic there.
-
Man if you go into the Apple section where I made a few replies to the MBP 13" gaming thread today.. I mean there was this one guy that was telling me that resolution/details/fps are not on the list of important things for "gaming experience" and another guy was telling me that the MBP 13 with the integrated 320M is the best 13" gaming system in existence. And it turned out they weren't being sarcastic either. So right now I'm kind of numb to, uh, sarcasm.
-
Any time I read a sentence with the word Apple in it, I automatically think its a joke. 2nd rate hardware with 1st rate price.
-
Yeah but that was the Apple section. Don't get me started on those fruitcakes.
-
13" Gaming system in existance eyyy?
To bad i'd take the 11" alienware over that expensive frying pan! -
NotEnoughMinerals Notebook Deity
Oh apple fanboys... there's nothing quite like a trip to the apple section
-
wow i reallly thought usd 1299 will the price well this is the most expensive from msi they are really taking a risk with 1499/1699 for a dx 10 gpu i really like the build hope it gets good reviews
-
Well as long as some online retailer site allows GPU upgrade for the GT660, then I am getting it, don't care if its a few hundred bucks more. I would wait for the G53, but don't want to wait for a # of unknown weeks for release. Plus we are still not sure what gfx card it will even have, one 1 site it said GTX 480M but who knows. I am really get sick and tired of my 3 yr old notebook, I can't even play FPS games on it. Best I can run is Crossfire with very slow aiming. Hahaha and the G73 weighs a ton, wonder how much the G53 will weigh.
-
G53 won't have a GTX 480M. In fact, odds are the GPU it does get will only perform better than the GT660's GTX 285M in DX11 games...for obvious reasons.
Like I've been saying all along though, that doesn't matter to buyers...most will just care that the number 400 is higher than the number 200. -
Yeah, a 15.6" with a 100W video card is asking for trouble.
-
The G51 could only just get away with a downclocked 260m
But it really depends on design, they made the asus w90s cooling phenominal, if they could pull some sager designage off it'd work
-
No reason to get this over a GX640 especially at that price.
