Both chassis are the same 4 speakers + Sub, Only difference to date is the GT727 has DDR3 1066. With the current models that have DDR3 there is no increase/decrease in battery life that is noticable.

on the website, the 725 has 5 speakers only and the 727 has 4 speakers and a sub...unless you have some insider info :D

you're right abt the RAM though.

Well, now how much of a difference could there be in terms of battery-life? We're talking about what could be well called a desktop-replacement here after all.. I for myself will buy the 725 as soon as it's out and screw it :D

The design of this machine is somewhat lacking... There's a vent on the right side, right where you would have your mouse placed.. I'm hoping it's an intake vent. Having hot air blowing against my hand for hours at a time wouldn't be fun. Anyone have more knowledge about this than me?

well, my 4 yr old acer has the same design but its lifted off the desk by a cooler and i dont place my mouse near it.

plus, it doesnt run so hot, unlike newer laptops anyway

think the msi shuld have no prbs with it.

The GT725 only have Vista 32bit, so it can't use all 4gig ram. Then it feels a little bit stupid to pay for 4gig. And how about the gameplay, would it be a big difference if this lappy would have a Vista 64bit and use all 4gig ram?

Where have you got this info..couldn't see it on any of the spec charts... would be quite stupid to put 32 bit OS on the "first gaming laptop to get past 10.000 points in benchmarks". Even Asus is using 64bit on its mid and high-end gaming series

i actually wanna see a demo model before i actually put down money on one. the build quality is very important to me but seeing as i cant really wait anymore, i just might put a deposit on one later :D

To be honest i been searching for a laptop over a month Alienware, Rock, Dell, acer, asus, you compare the spec with any of them it will come to £1700

so the price is very reasonable and a friend of mine work for this company and they have all msi laptop and he said its good and i search on the internet aswell
MSI is been under rated which is good because they will raise the price once they know they are good so take the advantge of it and buy one.
you can any laptop is the world but you can get a garuntee the it would nt go wrong.

end of the day its a piece of machinery it can go wrong does nt metter how expensive it is for example Hadron Collider cost 6.4 billion and went wrong within 10 days this laptop is only £1125

oh BTW the Asus G71 is pretty good too, its 1129 on laptopsdirect.co.uk but the GPU is not so good, i also hear that Asus service here is bad...

T9400 is the same as the P9500, performance wise. However, the P uses less power (25W) as opposed to the T, which uses 35W(?).

You won't notice the 800mb difference at all I guess (except when running audio/videoediting-tools). Then on the other hand I don't think the GT725 would be that much cheaper having only 3gig since memoryprices are lower than ever before. 4Gig seems to be a standard nowadays and I guess that even makes this config cheaper than 3gig.

I don't think so. The x64 drivers are getting better but I don't know any game, that will use more than 2gigs of ram.

So, has anyone found the "lesser" GT725(P8600, 1600x1000, Bluray-free) in Europe ?

All I can see is the P9500 one, but I don't think I need a processor this powerfull, I don't want to go blind staring at tiny pixels(1900X1200) and I sure as hell don't need that crap they call BluRay that is driving the price up.

No, I haven't even seen a single GT725 with Intel Centrino here in Europe. 2 Days ago, they officially released some more information on their site:
    http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=newsdesc&news_no=712

You know, you don't have to use the 1900x1200 resolution on your screen.

thanks for the link! Seems some questions posted in this thread have been cleared up (comparing 725 and 727

    - the GT725 will have a 5 speaker system, one of them being a subwoofer
    - the GT725 4850 has ddr3 vram

Question regarding retail availability... what stores carry MSI usually in the USA??

No news so far. I'm hoping for a budget-version like the GT725-074US but with a 500gb drive.
Chances are, that this model may cost €1000 flat, let's keep our fingers crossed.
The GT725-087UK is about €1250, the GT725-075US is at €1170 so it would only be fair, if we can have a GOOD sub €1000 notebook for once. Usually notebooks are quite expensive here in the continental EU, especially in Germany and Austria.

Sorry if this has already been asked, but I appear to be in the market shopping for a nb again, and see that Amazon has the -074US version w/9cell battery 320GB hdd, pre-ordering @ c. $1350 + free shipping.

Now, has the resolution of the screen been released? The MSI page just says 17" Ultra Vivid but no resolution details. (Also looking at the Asus G50VT-X6 from newegg @ same price.)

    [EDIT]
Yes I've decided to give ATI a shot again(if I can find what suits my needs/desires at price) after so many years as even if the ATI guys can't write a X11 driver to save their lives the OSS devs probably could, and this is a good price for what should be a good GPU. Just wish that there were some available in 15.4" GX62x form factor...
