http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/08/asus-debuts-18-4-inch-w90-gaming-laptop-at-ces-2009/
the spec of this laptop are sick
18.4-inch gaming rig with a 1080p panel, twin ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870 X2 GPUs, three RAM slots (a world's first, mind you) stuffed with 6GB of DDR2 memory, a Core 2 Duo processor, a half dozen (seriously) Altec Lansing speakers and a Turbo Gear function that will enable users to overclock the system and boost performance by as much as 25% -
I'm going to try and get this around June, will it still be available???? How long do they sell it for on Amazon.....i hope for a while! I soooooo want it, and maybe i should wait for GT727..maybe it will be out by then. I'm looking to find a good notebook to play Flight Simulator X, an extremely big GPU is needed to play it well. Hopefully ill be able to get it to give me between 20-30fps with Ultra High settings with the HD4850!!!!!!!!!!! i can't wait! YAY!

Images of this are out.. Kinda disappointing. Looked much better in the concept drawings.. The carbon fiber is ugly!

I can't believe MSI used the exact same keyboard from the 15" models, it's terrible. The small right shift key and the second redundant backslash key shouldn't even be there -- there's certainly enough room for a full size keyboard and numpad on a 17" notebook.
-
That is a pretty annoying keyboard layout.
I happen to like carbon fiber designs, I play hockey so my hockey sticks look like that as well. -

Carbon fibre looks great keyboard looks a little cramped
I have a full keyboard on my 7811 but thats from one side of the notebook to the other side this one there is a huge gap in the sides i hope that doesnt make it a close feel when you type -
do u think that this laptop will be available in like 6-8 months, when i decide to buy a new laptop. Iwonder how long it will be on Amazon for....
-
Cheaper to use a common component across as many product lines as possible although since they had the extra space I think that it would've been better if they had separated the numeric keypad portion from the regular keyboard, add a separator and supports between the two pieces.
Not going to look at this any longer as I think that 17" is really too big, and the GT627 should be out soon (same form factor as the 1651/GX620). -
i still cant wait to get it hopefully monday or tuesday finger cross -
how long do you think it will be available for before they stop selling it? I am planning on getting one around August......hopefully they will be available....if not, someone buy 2, and i buy it off them! I can't wait for it. I'm only 13, but it plays FSX extremely well. The video card is even better by approximately 10-25% over the 9800m gtx according to other posts in this forum question....... hopefully thats true, the carbon fiber looks ok, does it HAVE to come with the chinese letters though!
-
what chinese letters? if you buy a us or uk model there should nt be any chinese letters. -
on the website, they showed the W, A, S, and D keys as arrow keys, and under the letter was a chinese letter.....it was on the MSI website, are they a chinese company? either way, i'm getting it! I also love the Turbo Button, its amazing. Does it overclock from 2.5-2.8?
-
Those pictures look like a matte screen, yes?
-
turbo mode will increas the speed approx 20% so more less it will take it up to around 3 i guess -
wow, thats awesome...so is the 4850 comparable to the 9800m gtx? i wonder how it will play Dir. X 9 games that are very GPU intensive... like FSX......
Is a matte screen good? i don't know the difference.. -
It is a matter of opinion which is better/worse, you should try both screens (maybe in computer store) and see which you prefer.
I have checked the specs and it is indeed a matte screen. Nice -
omg, im soooo excited. ALthough i wont be able to get it until the summer, i hope they will be available! OMG, im so excited
-
I am also really excited about this laptop. Just hope that it doesn't cost too much and has Vista 64bit. If it doesen't, I will maby go with Asus W90.
-
how much is that beast going to be? its got dual HD4870's!!!!

It is of course possible they will be offered in a range of choices, or that they will differ from region to region. But the pictures posted above look matte:

-
admittedly i also pre ordered mine hehe lets see who gets it first =D
-
i might wait for the Asus W90.....it is supposed to be coming out in March, but probably not until around June. If i get a new laptop, i will probably either get this one or the W90. I'm not ordering one until August or September....
-
yes and i think both the Asus and MSI threads know about your plans now....
-
-
-
dunno abt faisal, but i have been wanting a new lappie for months now and i dont want to wait till march (if it even comes out by then) so im getting a GT725.
faisal, u sure you;re getting yours first? muahaha -
do u think its even worth it to spend 2000+ on dual 4870's, and 6gb of ram?
-
nope, cause thats overkill, save the money and spend it on something else
-
-
self pick-up too?? the plot gets thicker! haha
P.S. Im doing a self pick-up as well muahaha -
So we are assuming these are coming out within January as opposed to March when most of the laptops are being released with the new MR 48xx series gpus?
-
-
-
Returned my P-7805u because I was awaiting this laptop, I'd prefer not to wait until uhh march..
-
exactly, jump on board the GT725 bandwagon!
oh and faisal, im writing from the front of the shop right now HAHA -
they let me sleep inside the shop so i am writhing from inside the shop right now lol -
think i see you on your laptop!!! hi there! HAHA i think we're hijacking this thread, sorry guys, im stopping it now
-
thats sooo funny guys.im in US, so theres no Amazon store anywhere close....hahah! u poor things all cold. Is MicroAnvika like a huge superstore like a Walmart, or like an electronics store. In US, there are no stores that sell MSI (Bestbuy and Circuitcity sell only like HP, Dell, Sony, and Toshiba).... makybe some gateways and asus's. I can't wait until it comes out....
-
Would it be a smart thing to buy the UK version of the GT725, its cheaper than the US version, only 1500 instead of 1599. and it has 500gb hard drive, and the same specs! maybe microanvika can ship to US!
-
did you see the ces tech? asus is jumping on the ati wagon with a dual video card.
-
hey, seriously, i want to pre-order it but I would like to make sure i get it before march. Do you think they will answer anything at amazon if I ask them that? I don't need the exact date, I just need to make sure I'm getting my computer...
Besides, there's a firewire listed in the spec @ MSI but not @ Amazon. I shouldn't worry, right? -
I wrote about the pre order price, they couldn't give me much confirmation, we sell billions(not their words) of items, But we will not charge your credit card until item ships
-
That 725 from MicroAnvika IS cheaper, esp. if you consider the exclusion of VAT price, although shipping to the US would likely make it MUCH more expensive unless you want to wait a month or so for it to arrive, plus the possibility that customs may hold it for a while to "inspect" it. Might also lead to some sort of importation tax...
As to MSI in the US: There are probably some small mom&pop shops like the various online resellers/builders in your area that might carry MSI notebooks. Those little places used to carry all sort of what we'd consider to be off brand electronics.
I wonder if Fry's carries MSI stuff? (None in my state, so I've no clue what they carry.) Maybe J&R Micro might carry it too, and AFAIK they have actual stores in NY. (Ordered from software from them a while back, and have had the odd occasion to look over their other offerings.)
Also if you have any little computer "shows" or "trade" shows you might be able to find some vendor there that sell MSI, although both the shows and mom&pops won't be as cheap as what you find online or even from the larger chain retailers.
MSI GT725 now with Intel Centrino & ATI Radeon Mobility 4850
