RMA would be another issue, I guess. Still no GT725 listed here in continental Europe....

Has anyone been able to get MSI to comment on the availability of the GT725? I tried thier offices but to no avail, I couldn't even reach anyone. I hope that is not any indication of thier customer service.

Amazon was no better, I think the guy actually just hung up the phone when he heard my question regarding items for pre-order.

Just curious as I am sitting on a Gateway 7805u (unopened) and I was thinking about returning it for the Amazon MSI GT725. Its more than a few bucks more but my understanding is that 4850 will rock the 9800GTS performance wise even with 512 vs. 1g (as most say 1g VRAM is still very under utilized if at all). Then throw in a higher CPU and Blu-Ray and it makes it a very tempting thought. I was also concerned that the 725 seems to have DDR2 RAM vs the Gateways DDR3, not sure what performance hit that makes for.

Any thoughts/opinions/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Not to mention I would love like everyone here to know when we could expect the 725 to be available. Anyone think that the Amazon price will go up when its not on pre-order?

the only thing that i am not sure abt the MSI GT725 is its build quality and its heat dissipation abilities, both of which I hope are good. :D

if anyone knows, pls feel free to comment

i know there is a US version, but if i could get the UK version for the same price (1500 for UK against 1599 for the US Version) with 500gb HDD instead of 320gb in the US, would it be worth a bank transfer?

its not only the bank transfer but the shipping costs as well as warranty issues. like Evo 7 said, RMA would be tough.

    Amazon GT725 is US$1599 which is £1080.
We dont use the Euro in the UK, FYI.

    MicroAnvika GT725 is £1125, which is US$1665.

So it is actually more expensive here (UK) than in the US.

But having said that, we do get the 500GB and a matte screen.

A Return Merchandise Authorization or Return Material Authorization (RMA) is a transaction whereby the recipient of a product arranges to return defective goods to the supplier to have the product repaired or replaced or in order to receive a refund or credit for another product from the same retailer or corporation. In practice, an RMA is only issued after a series of tests.

    Wiki-ed it..

So the GT725 with DDR2 667/800 (Not sure which since Amazon does not state) performs about on par with the 7805u DDR3 1066? Interesting.

Any other glaring reasons to ditch the 7805u (2.26ddr3/9800GTS1gVram) for the MSI GT725.

So just from reading around, it seems that this laptop might not be released until a few months from now (March or so). In that case, I might look to purchase something else since I doubt i can afford to wait that long.

Has anyone been able to get a word out of MSI regarding the 725s release date? You would think the horse's mouth might hold the answer.

Maybe someone might have better luck than I did calling their offices as I couldn't even get in touch with a live person.

Zipzoomfly and Amazon wouldn't have pre-orders for an item 2 months in advance, easily end of January by the latest in my opinion.

Im not very familiar with Zipzoomfly. I find it interesting they have the GT725 listed for a higher price with only 2gig of RAM while Amazon states 4gig?

Im glad that laptop marketing or editing people do not work in industries where correct information could mean the difference between life or death or worse, a bad pastry.

Just trying to make the choice between keeping my Gateway 7805u or returning it for the GT725 (Amazon version at this point)

I don't get why it would be on pre-order for 2 months either.. and I really hope that's true.. for both the GT725 & GT627. Makes sense since the GT627 was supposed to come out last December.. I couldn't see it coming out before the GT725 based on how more sites have the GT725 listed.

Plus RK Computers has it listed on their site as well.

Chaz's news post mentioned that the 727 (the gt725 with ddr3 memory) should be out in a few months. Somewhat discouraging lol, especially considering ppl around the boards talking about 48xx cards arriving in March at the earliest...

who's Chaz? which post are you talking about?

Now when you mention the ATi 48XX, do you mean laptop version? Cause I saw that the desktop versions are out already, 4850 and 4870 (DDR5 RAM!)

It stands for Mobility Radeon, ATI's graphics cards which are used in notebooks. The desktop versions are just called Radeons.

I'm sure it will be widely available by then and there will be other notebooks with the same cards for you to choose from. I'm waiting for many more manufacturers to be using these new Radeon cards to really pressure Nvidia. Nvidia has been lax in the notebook high-end gaming GPU department, they've had a huge monopoly over it.

i had some emails exchange with them in taiwan HQ and they told me it will be out soon in UK
and also gave me the place name i can buy from. i been to the shop and had seen order of 15 on the way . so i m very positive it will be out very soon hopefully by end of this week. finger cross

    update:
Sorry for the late reply, because I am still waiting for the reply form UK.
If you want GT725, you can go MicroAnvika to buy GT725.

Here is MicroAnvika’s web site as follows for your reference.
    http://www.microanvika.com/search.asp?keywords=GT725

And UK will receive the GT725 until Feb. About GT727, it will be later than GT725, and I don’t know the assured date.

Thanks, but since I live in the States I'm probably gunna stick to a seller on this side of the pond.

I still find it a little frustrating that it's been impossible to actually speak to someone at the US headquarters in CA (multiple attempts). You just get the endless phone loop......"leave a message"....."you can't leave a message"...."lets try that extension again".....rinse/repeat. Now granted this is the sales/marketing department, as you would think they would have the best idea as to their product line, but no other departments I tried were any more accessible. Heck I might even settle for a ....."hello, sorry I don't have that information yet", but you can't even get someone to give you the personal brush-off with MSI.

Is this typical for this company to seem so bush-league?

I am extremely interested in thier newest gaming laptops but that is being tempered with an equal growing frustration at the lack of one's ability to reach anyone within their company. I can only imagine if I had an actual problem with one of their products I owned.

People crack on Gateway but at least you can actually get a hold of them, good or bad.

I really want to give MSI a chance but sheesh are they making it tough.

I'm really waiting for that......"You have it all wrong about MSI and this is why post". I really want to hear that MSI has their act together and that my experience so far should be characterized as unique. I'd love to know more "but"...

Here's another issue with the MSI. Some say, the M4850 will have 1gig vram and MSI has missprinted this whole GDDR2 thing for quite a long time. I think they didn't have a final version of a M98 in their hands until a short time before January 09. That somehow explains, why there possibly won't be any GT725s before February.

Amazon says the blu-ray version has a 1920x1080 screen and the 9-cell battery. MSI says the screen is 1920x1200. Anybody know the real deal?

Obviously the 9-cell batt is good, but I'd like to confirm the 1920x1200 res.

Since MSI has had missprints all over their productpage, just wait and see for yourself.
1920x1080 would not be 16:10, which MSI claims to be a standard for this model so I guess it will be 1920x1200!

Yeah, the non-bluray version has 1680x1050, which is 16:10, so I doubt it could be 16:9 with the same chassis. MSI needs to get their crap together.

as for the long waiting time, hopefully it will be worth the wait. otherwise, just forget abt MSI and get another brand of laptop
