I think I speak for most of us here when I say that I would not buy it if it was listed for $1400 USD, especially with no backlit keyboard.

You can already buy the Sager 9150 w/ i7-3610qm + 7970m + backlit keyboard for $1474, which would be a far superior performance combo.

Hope MSI gets their act together. I think this machine will be good.... but it wont be $1400 good.

I would actually still consider it... Back lit keyboard is definitely not something big to miss out, keep in mind, this still comes with Dyno audio, killer network card, and most importantly a 128Gb superraid set up, with an additional 750 g harddrive. If you want the exactly config with a gtx680 and a IVB that set up there is almost $3000 USD!

So personally I would still consider it.

Where can I get the Sager at that price? I was waiting for this damn GX60, but it appears to be a myth. In the meantime, my crappy G73 has decided to become utterly useless and refuse to boot.

There's been no info on it since it's been announced. Meanwhile, the gt60 with the 680m has been announced and is up for preorder. MSI sure is taking their sweet time.

I was just being dramatic. Basically, what R3d said, lack of info since it's announcement, and very little info when we learned about it in the first place.

Good price. 870 euros is about 1070 USD, but that's with VAT I think. It doesn't seem to have the super RAID either but it has the killer NIC which is nice.

This is excellent news! Hopefully the price will be the same (if not lower) once it hits north america. It still has dynaudio, and the lack of super raid is not really a big deal for me (Id rather have raid 0 w/ 2 regular drives than super raid).

Hopefully we will see customizable versions (barebone) in under a month :)

That's the retail model too. If MSI sells a barebones model it'll probably be another $100-200 cheaper.

The performance of the 7970m takes quite a hit by losing the Intel, but it still has a good jump the GTX 670m/intel combo even with only the A10.

Definitely bang for the buck material, but with a "*" for those with deeper pockets to consider shopping around for an Intel system to pair with the 7970m.

Actually , if you look at the fps/benchmarks , they are comparing the gx60 to an alienware m17x w/ i7 and gtx 675m, and it stomps the gtx 675m, which is great to see.

Great! Hopefully it has the connector for the backlight keyboard on the motherboard. It will then be perfect!

Review with benchmarks is in! (albiet in chinese). It HAS the connector for the backlit keyboard!!!!!!!! It looks very similar to the GT60 design.

    GX60

Those scores are pretty nice, I just wish they had done a stock 3d06 and vantage, not at 1080p, since I cant compare them to anything else easily.

Could anyone run a 3d06 and 3d Vantage at the same settings with your 7970 + i7 and see what kind of scores you get?

On that page I see a result for a 3DMark11 score of P4396, with a graphics score of 5620 and physics of 2601.

Going by Notebookcheck, an M17x R4 with a 3610qm gets 5802 and a GPU score of 5514. That's a, what, 25% advantage with a Core i7? The GPU scores are just about the same, so I'm assuming that 25% is from the CPU.

Wish there were some FPS values from games.

That one fan is more powerful than the two in clevo machines combined lol.

Did you notice the CPU heatsink has a single heatpipe rather than the two in the intel models?

Also we have a new barebone model number perhas?

    Screenshots showed 16FK.

This sounds like a promising laptop! Although I've taken a look at benchmarks for the CPU, can it really handle stuff like emulators and programming applications? For the price, this can make and awesome college laptop

I'm thinking it's going to have to be a barebones. I heard mention that MSI had an agreement with someone that AMD systems would be unbranded only. I'm not sure if that info was only for the US market or for MSI as a whole.

I noticed the single heatpipe. Is it because the Intel version uses a 45W CPU and the AMD version is 35W?

Any guess or estimation on price?

Also, any idea of the 7970M is user-replaceable (MXM)?

The 7970M will be user replaceable, the cost of adding layers to the whole motherboard just to integrate it would be huge. Same base layout and casing as the GT series (again for cost).

I'm just sad they are not putting mSATA in it as thats the advantage of the AMD chipset (lots and lots of SATA3 ports to go round).

If it's muxless (most likely) then you will probably only be able to use AMD enduro cards in it.

However since this is AMD's cpu + chipset + GPU it should hopefully not have the same issues as the intel setups.

I just spoke with the MSI representative in charge of the Romanian market and he said that the GX60 model will NOT be available here (and surrounding markets). That's sad, as I'm thinking nor other high end model will come to the market.

But not too sad about it as I am about to install a 7970 in my gt683 :)

Actually, hybrid crossfirex wouldn't make much of a difference in any scenario, especially with a 7970m. It's a nice thing to have, sure, mostly in the lower-mid segment but it won't bump up your performance significantly.

So not having hybrid crossfirex isn't really a downside. Unfortunately, the CPU performance isn't there at all. If AMD could only sort out graphics switching and improve driver-game compatibility (by working with game devs), they could truly become a viable alternative. They have a solid GPU architecture and they can be very, very price competitive.

Realistically, AMD can become the definitive choice for price-conscious performance seekers. The next-gen APUs wouldn't be as bad and just might deliver 'enough' performance coupled with a good GPU, and all that for a very low price. The price of an all-AMD system, even with flagship components can be much cheaper than the Intel/nVidia alternative.

The GT60/70 has support for PX 5.0 in the BIOS, I see no reason why AMD wouldn't insist on implementing Enduro in their "flagship" notebook. Add in the software implementation and there's Enduro. Too bad the software implementation is junk... I don't think an all AMD setup will fix the real issue; the drivers, specifically PX. Maybe the delay for the GX60 is for PX 5.5, the sacred Enduro-fix that's rumored to come with 12.9/12.10. Technically, if we had proper Enduro support, a 7970m should work in a GT60 with switchable graphics.

Also, it looks like MSI may have solved the problem with the Trinity Overclocking, look at this translated text from that same website :

"Raise the performance of your computer

technology Turbo Drive Engine + allows you to overclock the CPU , and increasing the frequency of memory , increasing both the power of the computing system and improving its performance "

So perhaps MSI has changed their Turbo Drive Engine to make the A10-4600m lock at 3.2ghz.... or beyond!
