    or
    4GB (2 SODIMM) DDR3 1333MHz Dual Channel Memory ( + 99 )

I'd say if you're gonna upgrade RAM upgrade the amount not the frequency, they say there is no real world diff

True , no real world difference in frequency but the same goes to amount !
I would go for frequency rather than the amount. An OC'd 1333hz Ram sounds sweet :D!

None of the games i play exceeds 55% (incl. Crysis , GTA4 etc etc)

Hey there death and cataclysm. Thanks for your opinion. I will stay true to the gt 725 then.

I could use 8gb for the sql server and so on since 4 gigs a little bit not enough for me anymore. I`ll take a look at those q9200, thanks for this.

The driver is working beautifully, thanks for that as well. :) No more aero crashes. :D

We are here for that ;) who knows , by the time we upgrade there would be even better card around :p

If that's the case then upgrading to 8gb won't be a waste of money for you.
The thing i forgot to mentioned is that the Q9200 doesn't come as retail or OEM , just ES. And Overclocking a quad with turbo will only increase it by 4%.

If you want to go higher , you will need a bios flash. Been there done that and all safe. But not really needed as the 2.4 is enough to go through anything you throw at it :D

Specs on this laptop are awesome, but the Fn key being in the wrong place is a dealbreaker, especially on a gaming laptop.

MSI keyboards always been like this , small right shift key , fn in the wrong place ..

The keyboard design on the Gx seems to be better than the one on the Gt series though.

Sent an email to Gentech, was informed that these should arrive early next week.

Still debating on this or the G73 which is still a 4 week lead time from when you order. Was told the G73 is still the best deal as far as price per specs though.

I haven't seen one in person yet so I've just been going off the reviews and it seems to me that they say it seems smaller than what the size indicates because of the tapered body. But not having e-sata is somewhat of a deal breaker since you're stuck with the usb2.0 slots.

Whoever has the 740 pre-ordered needs to post pics and reviews as soon as you get it. Thanks in advance

    What the hell?

Justin i'm just curious, whats the pricing going to be like, is that information available?

Guys if MSI are doing barebones with this kind of power inside, its going to blow alot of lappies out the water for certain.

Also, do you guys do reviews of units? I think one thing everyone is eager to see is how its thermals are, and a picture of the internals/pipes especially.

Wow just specd myself an amazing barebones of the 17". For that price I think I might not be able to pass.

Any downside to getting the barebones besides the shorter warranty? Would it still have all the other stuff like the ECO system and what not?

EDIT: Does ECO even really work?

The 17" barebone does not use ECO (edit). The ECO is just pre-configured power-management profiles available at the touch of the button. The 15.4" barebone uses the ECO.

Well the stock GX740 is cheaper if ur willing to live with those specs. The beauty of barebones is cheaper upgrades

Also, hows the RMA on barebones? If things go bad will it be a huge hassle to get MSI to repair it?

I don't think so, unless it comes with the G series touch board, which can be purchased seperately, then you gota go ahead and flash ec ware and stuff.

On the barebones you would contact your reseller and they would setup the RMA if necessary with the manufacture for you. It's a quick easy process.

since the barebones are out, does that mean the branded version will come soon?

EDIT: rk, your website says the 640 is in stock?? is this true?

I have not heard an ETA on the GX740 branded.

The GX640 branded is in stock at the manufacture and will be available to ship at the end of the week.

Personally i'd just buy the barebone empty if possible, that way you can pick up the remaining gear or hot swap with other machines :D.

I'm not actually aware of whats on the BB TP, but its possible eco is still there.

EDIT: newb question, how do I install own OS on a laptop that doesn't come with one installed? What does it default boot to?

I'm sure it'l be exactly the same, just a plain stereo 4.1 configuration. with no control over individual speakers, just left and right.

The rig supports 7.1 out, optical out and spdif out.

Same price as the Clevo W860CU barebone from RJtech; this makes the decision rather difficult...

Clevo: Less bulky, great keyboard, great display, horrible battery life
MSI: 17" and lighter, much better battery life, horrible keyboard

Hopefully we can see some information on the GX740's display and exact battery life soon; Does it support switchable graphics?

Looking at the barebones system on xoticpc...why are the hard drives so expensive? It's +$228 to add a 500 GB 7200 RPM drive...you can get a 7200 RPM 500 GB drive on newegg for $100. What gives?
