DO NOT USE SMALL VGA HEATSINKS ON THE GPU HEATSINK.

It was the culprit of my temps rising +4 degrees.

Removing them all dropped my temps down 4 degrees'c,

and i'll try to see what the other problems are with my higher temps.

Actually my 4850 does run hotter at lower native then 1080P strangely enough lol

    @ Meraki:

Where did you place the heatsinks on the GPU? Might be they saturate quickly with heat and air dissipation via them isn't as efficient as conductive, interesting.

Even with the HS removed, temps are still juicy though and you confirmed a solid contact with the GPU, hmmmm.

    @Catacylsm:

The CPU picks up more of the brunt of the load at lower resolutions (The GPU isn't bottlenecking the CPU as much) and may be compromising the cooling to the GPU. Just a theory. ;)

Has anyone else run Furmark on the 1727/GX740 w/ 5870 or even the 1656/GX640 with the 5850 to see what results they get?

Not sure about this, unless you consider 77C max on furmark as warm.

Anyways, meraki, first you need to download and use HWinfo32 instead, so that it shows you the 4 GPU temps, instead of only 1, if it's the mem temp reaching 90-100 it's probably still acceptable, core temp will generally be lower. If it's the mem temp that is high, it's probably thermal pad placing issue rather than the thermal gel on the core. Furmark shows your thermal diode temp which is actually the memory temp, so the high temp should be the memIO.

With the beefy cooling of the Clevo's (which is top notch), yes, I consider that warm. Not HOT but warm.

    Good News.

    920xm runs so cool......................................

maybe I got a really good QS?

Even under max heat of Prime95, it averages around 80'c. Remarkable.

    But then,

    GPU temps are disappointing, still.....

82C core temp is actually OK, it's only the memiO temp might be a bit high, but it's fine. Though I don't know if the 82C core temp is from running normal game or furmark.

Yeah, you got a good one Meraki. :)

Ken: Can you give it a Furmark run for 5-10 min? It won't be at 1920x1200 like Meraki and his LG panel, but still something to compare his against.

The 5870m is a hot card. Smaller process = more heat / area. Wonder why people always think smaller = cooler.

Hmm actually cards usually behave to heat,

So if you sat outside in the freezing cold (Sub 0 ftw) you'l find your card could go crazy,

As for his temps, thats unknown, maybe something were overlooking?

Hmm... Do I have to replace the thermal pads?

Do those need to be replaced after reapplication of the heatsink as well?..

My only understanding of the current phenomenon is:

    1. The high idle temps are because of the higher resolution of my screen.

    2. The high benchmark tests at fixed ratios are due to insufficient contact and ripping of the thermal pads of the VRAM.

    3. Any other ideas? The cooling system seems to be fine, as the CPU runs so cool, even more than I had expected.

Thermal pad is torn a bit, so I might as well get a new one to replace this one.

Aye, well what dead did was use mx-3 on his memory ships, 1 ) because its not conductive 2 ) because its much more effective when it comes to heat transfering,

You should email him to see if he has any advice, he seems to have the coolest gt725 out of all of us xD.

I did, the 2nd benchmark was the 6th time it ran on Vantage. :)

To answer your PM, I didn't do anything special actually, I just assemble the parts but I use IC Diamond 24, after applied IC Diamond I apply some pressure and move the heatsink left and right to make sure the thermal paste covers entire GPU and CPU before I put the screws back in.

Also I uploaded Crysis Warhead video last night:

Well, I am using an equally effective compound, MX-3.

So I don't really think it's the cooling problem..

I might put some time into it to find my card's max clocks,

but I guess it is too tedious..

    Remarkable OC'ing anyways.

You live in Alaska? lol those temps regarding your clocks are awesome.

Haha merak, thats fantastic news!! i'm loving the new temps (Y)

Also if you want a tip to achive the best clock possible, spend a good few hours at it to be honest,

Sit down, and increment each clock by 5-10mhz seperately (Core and memory) and run a single run of say jane nash or the asteroid one, (Jane whatever is core biased) and the new calico test is memory biased,

I look forward to all the clocks, but dont push it too hard! :)

Brutal Scores :) This machines living up to expectations much more now!

Have to say though, this should be the last method of cooling they use, now R & D needs to work on something more concrete.
