Hmm...
here comes along an interested 920xm holder.
Question.
Should I or Should I not OC the 920.
-
Someone with the machine needs to try and find pll for the 740, someone did with the 640,
Only oc the 920 if your confident it'l not explode with volcanic microchippage. -
@ Cata , don't they use the same mobo ?
The new setfsb is now shareware but support HM55 now -
ati control center wont let me overclock. everything is gray in the overclock area. cant do anything.
edit: found a small unlock button. i overclocked to 860mhz now...but wont do anything either.
the gpu clock still stays at 700mhz, even when i pushed the slider to the right. see here:
-
Its possible MSI has introduced blocks (Ive actually not seen overdrive like that?)
I can't be certain though, but they will be aware of the fact that their cards can run pretty hot :') -
Don't worry about the bottom display , it will increase itself on full load. Increase the memory and run a bench .. you can use GPUz to monitor it if you want
Yeah it seems like they got fan controls now -
Just an interesting Question for the GX740 or barebones MS-1727 holders.
What are your idle temps for the GPU?
I just want to see how applying the MX-3 on the memory chips are effective compared to thermal pads.
Can one of the retailers or other people post idle temps with the HWinfo32? -
-
and applied MX-3 to the memory chips for cooling.
That dropped my memory chip temperatures,
but still, this is a reaaaally hot card, and spikes above 100'c in Furmark,
even with all the heat mods.
So beware when you OC, don't push too far, or use in a hot environment. -
Glad it worked for you aswell. Have you tried the other thing i told you about ?
-
-
Grill on the other side of the bottom cover
-
Or shooting it ten thousand times as i like to see
.
-
My next machine will get a similar fate
-
Can't remove em... -
ok, im running crysis and crysis warhead on high-very high completly smooth, and with 2 times anti aliasing on highest resolution. powerful notebook.
-
Why only 2 AA ? Pretty sure you can go all the way
@ Mera , yeah they are quite a pain to remove -
-
Your card can handle it
I can maxed it out on my 4850
-
know that i also play on high-very high on highest resolution already, so... -
If my lowly GDDR3 can do so , yours should be a breeze !
Try it .. Warhead is better optimized than the 1st game
-
-
It will decrease performance , but like i said , you got one of the most powerful single card out there .. why you worry about it ? unleash the beast
-
now playing at 8x AA. -
-
Whoa just cause 2 looks awesome on highest settings!!
But can you guys reccomend me what option to downgrade in graphics? Because all mouse reactions are still a bit slow, i need about 2-5fps more.
What option will give me a fps boost on my card? -
The game is "broken" , a lot of people is experiencing mouse lags even though they can max out the game .. Try increasing ur mouse sensitivity or setting ur DPI to the highest ...
Since I got my G9x , I can't game lower than 5700 -
Its the mouse smoothing, it can be disabled in one of the configs i think.
-
I have a question,
Is there a difference between my WUXGA panel displaying WSXGA+
and the original panel showing WSXGA+?
It seems a bit blurry when I run WSXGA+ res for Starcraft II on my lappy,
maybe it's because I am so used to using the WUXGA now?...
Or is there really a difference between the two? -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Did you try running the tests without the bottom on to see what kind of temps you get with the array of tests before you potentially take a shotgun to it?
As for the panels, that is why running native resolution is the best for clarity. Interpolation to go full screen at a non native resolution (1680x1050 on a 1920x1200 panel)
results in sometimes blurry pictures. Even with AA/AS jacked up to compensate, it is still better to run it at native resolution when possible for optimal image clarity. -
Guys,
I'm thinking about buying an notebook w/ the folowing config:
i7-720, 15-17", 160 GB SDD (or 80Gb SDD + 250 HDD), ATI 5870 (or similar), 4Gb DDR3.
I've seen Toshiba Qosmio X505, MSI GT740, Sager 8690 ans Asus G73JH-A2.
Which of them would be the best choice, considering that all of them are aroubd $ 1800.
Thanks! -
Hey fem and welcome to the forum, well first of all what would you like to do??
Also do you have any brand specific purposes?
You'l find alot of us will reccomend MSI but there could be things you dislike about the machine if you get me.
Greets,
Cata. -
Im looking to get one of the new laptops. Which would be a better option, purchasing the GX740 MSI model, or going Barebone?
The only advantages to having the GX740 that I can think of are minimal, like the metal finish, sweet msi logo, and not much else. But if I understand correctly the Barebone is supported by the company you buy it from (which may have horrible support) compared to the MSI support which is marginally ok.
Another thought, I have the GT725-212 and the hinge on it has a huge crack. Anyone else having these issues? -
its impossible to kill and use your grapple hook in vehicle chasing and fast scenarios where you have to react fast.
-
You'll end up paying more to configure a barebones exactly as the gx740. It makes sense to go barebones if your upgrading things more (i.e. faster processor).
I would say that most resellers are going to offer better customer support than a large manufacturer. That said, MSI also has a 3-year warranty PLUS 1-year accidental damage. You'll may a lot more with a barebones to get that same warranty coverage. -
There is a way to disable mouse smoothing, i think that causes the issue.
-
-
No point getting a barebone and the make the reseller configure it for you , it will end up costing more .... Get the Gx740 pre-configured instead.
With barebone you will get only 1yr warranty from the reseller .. No MSI 3yr warranty for it.
Hmmmmm a cracked GT725 , ur the only one i'm afraidCata dropped his twice on the pavement ! and still working and no cracks , even his dog/bear jumped on it at one point .. no damages

on your place i'd go with one of them both MSI GX740* (i suppose u mean) or Sager 8690,
GX740 is about 1400$ just like 8690. U could also put an SSD into MSI's lappy
Meraki told me the secret ;d
u should just remove the ODD and buy an hdd caddy .. so ur gonna be rdy for SSD.. between both i don't know i really like Sager but MSI got 17" .. so it's all in your hands gl -
the 8690 is 1269 at xotic.

why does GTA 4 lag? is it the CPU?
-
Patch#6 adds some night shadows and so on .... -

you can go back to patch#4 but windows live crap will nag you from updating it otherwise you won't be able to sign in ...
Turning off or lowering shadow will help a bit .. aniso to x2 or lower .. etc etc. -
Hi Cata!
Actually I'm working hard on AutoCAD/Revit Programming. So, I open AutoCAD about 100-200 times a day, with VisualStudio opened. Sometimes it takes 5-10secons. Thats why I want a powerful processor and SSD drive for system.
Once I'm gonna buy a "top" processor, why not do that with a top VGA card?
The only thing I dislike in MSI is that, between the others, it is the only that don't have 2 S/HDD bays. But as StereoSound said, it is "easy" to solve with an e-SATA external HDD.
Though, it uses HM55 chipset, not the PM55 that the "concorrets" uses.
I've read good things about Sager.
There are algo good performance reviews on Asus.
I like MSI. Some comments about the temperature scared me. I have had 1 toshiba the uses to overheat, so that it shutdown alone.... My actual lappy ia a Toshiba, C2D... It is hot, but don't crash....
although MSI has an 17" display, it isn't Full-HD... Sager has an Full-HD option.
Actually i've "mounted" an GX740-like config over an Barebone, and I costs was of $1800... (ok, it has SDD)..
What you guys think about ASUS and Toshiba?
Thank you guys!
Felipe... -
Femesq, if you're going to be using AutoCAD a lot, you'll definitely benefit from the Asus G73's 8GB memory compared to the 4GB of the others. It also has the dual HDD/SSD bays that you want. Will you be doing a lot of gaming as well? If not, you may want to look at something that's a little more "workstationy".
-
On an unrelated note, has anyone in NA gotten a chance to test one of these things out? Nothing against BorgqueenX, but I would love to see some a thorough review of this machine.
I'm torn between the GX740 and Asus G73JH. -
Yes, I'm interested in when the gx740 is going to come out in NA as well. I finally made up my mind to go with the gx740 over gx640. I just want a bigger screen area. The funny thing is that the gx740 is practically the same portability as many other 15" competitors.
I recently noticed that the gx740 is also listed as coming with a blue-ray player. Is that for real? seems like quite a bargain. Gentech will let you swap it out and save $100 bucks too, so that's something to consider if it does indeed come with a blue-ray.
My ONE worry is what the screen quality is like on the GX740. The gx640 is reported to have a very nice screen (considering it isn't LED as well) with good white + black definition. Is the screen on the GX740 going to the same as the one on the barebones version (1727)? If so, can anyone comment on the screen quality?
Cheers!
