That is what I saw too. A quick question though, do the current MSI models work if you only install one mSATA drive, or do you need both? It is just that I bought a 240 gb Mushkin Direct Atlas Deluxe 240GB on special from Amazon for $170 that I want to use :D

They are just wired like SATA slots so treat each mSATA drive as a normal drive.

If it's anything like the older GE60, the slot on the left in those pictures is probably for the wireless card. That's how it was on my old machine.

I was wondering if it was a slot for wireless card. To be honest it seemed like only 1 msata to me but I was actually curious if that was the case. I could see how newer gens could opt for dual msata and relocate the wifi card elsewhere. Except I don't know where lol.

Look at the casing on the current model, it would allow 2 stacked connectors. Also look, it says sandisk on both.

I'm kinda confused on the whole SATA vs mSATA deal. How noticeable is the difference between a regular SATAIII ssd and 2 mSATA in RAID0? What about the difference between a regular SATAIII ssd and a single mSATA for that matter?

You get mSATA SSD that is almost as fast as a normal SSD. However if you Raid them you get faster speed. If you Raid 2x256GB mSATA SSDs you only have 256GB available to store your files in, because both mSATA SSDs contain the same files. They just work together to do things faster :)

    Example:

    1 Samsung 840 Pro 256GB

    2 Samsung 840 Pro 256GB in Raid

    Perhaps this will help somewhat......

MSI SuperRAID (2x mSATA SSD's paired in RAID0, by use of an mSATA adapter, it only occupies the single primary drive slot) ***HM77 chipset or above required***

MSI Super RAID 2 (3x mSATA SSD's in RAID0, by use of an mSATA adapter, it only occupies the single primary drive slot) ***HM87 chipset or above required***

Thinkpads and MSIs cater to different markets. If you expect your laptop to withstand the weight of a truck, get a Thinkpad (or possibly a Toughbook); if you want bang-for-the-buck, buy an MSI. Unfortunately, no middle ground exists.

On topic: I wonder if MSI added a manual GPU switch to any of its new models.

I highly doubt there is a manual switch for the GPU, it's all done by Optimus which switches automatically most times.

That looks awesome! But do you know if it has the multi-color keyboard like the current gt models? The fact that its blue scares me because the bare bones have an only blue backlit keyboard. Also I don't see a KLM icon on the desktop :((

Are we talking about RAID0 or RAID1?

If you're talking about RAID1, then yes, you'd only get 256GB available because it's mirroring the files to the second disk for redundancy and security. If a file contained blocks ABCDEF
    SSD 1: ABCDEF
    SSD 2: ABCDEF
As far as I know there's not much of a speed increase in Raid1.

If you're talking about RAID0, then you wouldn't have only 256GB, but 512GB (256GB x 2). Continuing from above, if a file has blocks ABCDEF
    SSD 1: ACE
    SSD 2: BDF
And it would mean each SSD would have to read part of the file in order to access it, giving a performance boost since it doesn't have to read the entire file on its own. The problem is that if one SSD dies, the entire array dies.

Yes double the risk with 2 SSDs vs 1 larger SSD. I wonder what mSATA SSDs will use MSI for the new GT models. The Sandisk U100 are a bit disappointing.

Meh, the risk is minimal, and SSD's are generally more reliable and far more shock resistant. You mean RAID0 SSD's vs. a single SSD, right? In the previous US GT70 0NE series, MSI used the MemoRight mSATA MS-701 series, and these were top performers. I expect to see the same, but perhaps we'll see even faster mSATA SSD's in this round.

    :)

    @Striker

I was refering to data corruption in case of failure on a RAID0 setup vs a single SSD. Ok then I take your word on it :)
Do you know if trim is supported on a SuperRAID setup? Maybe with RST 11.5 or 11.7 don't remember which version supported TRIM on RAID0.
Yeah the MemoRight mSATA SSDs are really nice. I hope for some Mushkin Atlas or Plextor M5M this time ;)

    @Benmaui

    Probably priced around 1400~1500 usd
That would be a good deal for a 17 incher :)

Both GE60/70 looks good with the aluminum finish and backlit keyboard - shame the GTX 760M is still soldered and got no pads on the VRAM chips - hence the 128bits opted.

Oh sorry, I was mixing up Raid0 with Raid1. You are absoutely correct.
Super Raid2 will be 3 SSDs in Raid0. More risk involved but faster speed. :p
Super Raid 1 for GE series though, with 2 SSDs in Raid0.

Well, you can always find some shops that import them, I got my GE60 in Hungary from a small shop that imports laptops that aren't officially available there.
Or in the worst case you can just order them from amazon/ebay.

I believe you are correct but you also need a supported chipset and a version 11 or higher Raid Utility OROM

The question I have is which version of the Intel Raid Utility OROM will be in the Raid bios.

Desktop boards(already at 12.6 OROM) continuously get bios updates with new OROMs but notebooks seem to stay with the one that is in the 1st shipping units.

IMO the OROM version and the iRST version should closely match for the best performance on rais0 setups.

MSI will only put mSATA SSDs and memory in their notebooks that they have validated.

The SanDisk U100 mSATA SSDs are the worst performing SATA III mSATA SSDs on the planet.

SSD performance depends a lot on capacity and make/model.

The new Crucial M500 mSATA SSDs are best in the 480GB size where as the M4 mSATA were good in 256GB.

Some newer Muskin Atlas use asym NAND so be careful.

EDIT:you can test your trim with the trimckeck tool
    http://files.thecybershadow.net/trimcheck/

If you get a Trim not working > reboot and run the tool again.
