I would strongly advise that you don't get a AW15 with its tripod CPU heatsink - be very careful about taking a decision like that. @Papusan

Hey, would you really prefer a 4k screen over a 1080p 120Hz screen?
I know it depends on what you are doing, for color accuracy and video editing might be the 4k screen better, but I think for gaming I would 95% pick the 120Hz TN Panel for the extra "smoothness". Or would you also buy the 4k screen only for gaming? Does the 4k res. really comes at its costs at 15,6"/17,3"?

Just be warned that the 4K screen on the 15.6" GS63VR is a pentile screen.

Personally I like 1080P better since I am using it with other softwares and 4K still having scaling issues which is too difficult to use.

already have one that i use atm was planning to sell it incase i didnt like it but low and behold its been a pleasure to use LOL! cpu temps are even and max cpu temp while gaming is 82c. Ive had a bad exp when i had my 15r1. 4 tech visits in less than a month that was to replace mobo and a busted speaker. ill be picking up another 15 r3 with 1070 + 120hz panel just to test things out. hopefully it will have acceptable cpu and gpu temps so i can keep it and sell this one instead :D

I'd prefer 1080P because 4K resolution makes text a lot of smaller and this causes more stress/fatigue to your eyes and it's likely a lower resolution may be used than the stock one.
I would accept 4K resolution if this is on a 30" panel.

I do want the 4k screen for photo/video editing. I am however hesitant about the pentile display, and that's frankly a deal breaker. I was looking at the GS73, and also the 63 w. 1080, but that's not preferred. Oddly, I am also now considering the bigger EVGA laptop due to its build quality, the only reservation that I have about it is its older CPU. But since it is overclockable, it should be able to perform nearly as well as the 7700 with a lower power draw to boot.

Check Notebookcheck's review of it, it gets quite hot. I would advise either repasting yourself or getting a reseller to do it so that you can keep temperatures under some amount of control.

Yeah. I will likely just have one of the retailers do it. I don't mind cracking open a computer. I have done it more times than I can count. But the thermal compound upgrade is relatively cheap.

I want to say no but most likely it's going to be yes, unless a better panel is released with the same amount of cost as pentile panels. :)

But, you can adjust the resolution of the 4K display to 1080p mode right? Unless it looks different than another 1080p monitor in that mode. Then, no disadvantage to the 4K model besides cost and 60HZ.

Pentile... just on the 15" 4K not the 17" 4K MSI GS is what I here for the current models, if I remember correctly. And yes i'd assume it'd be the same case for the 1070 update if it happens.

Well I am sold on either the 1080p version of the GS63VR (1060 or 1070 if it happens.) Or the Aero 14. Kevin, I noticed on Gentechs website that it was listed as a PLS panel. Everywhere else it is listed an as IPS. Can you provide any clarification. Thanks.

So far the GS63 with 1070 will only have 4K panel no 1080P SKU. So that's 60Hz.

Confirmed both 1080P and 4K are IPS:

    1080P: LP156WF6-SPK1 LG IPS.

    4K: LP156UD1-SPB1 LG IPS.

    @Donald@HIDevolution @GenTechPC

Is it worth waiting for the 1070 GS63VR? Will it even end up existing or will it remain vaporware? And if it does exist, will the GPU temps be under control?

If you really want a GTX 1070 then yes but no if you are ok with 1060. So far we know nothing about the new GTX 1070 special edition on GS series yet, will find out and know everything about it when the shipment is here.

Not sure if this guy is a reliable source, but someone replied to a comment I made on YouTube. This is what he said. "i visited msi service center last week and the engineer guy said that i will have to wait at least till later this year or next year. they are not even planning to make 1070 yet."

Does this version have better speakers than the GS63VR? Ended up returning it since its speakers were considerably worse than my laptop speakers.

I will admit I don't think much of any laptop's speakers, but the GE's aren't bad as far as laptop speakers can be not bad.

Thanks for the reply. Obviously no laptop speakers are that good (with a few exceptions) but the GS63VR's speakers were several times worse than my cell phone at the time. Even watching YouTube videos was painful on my ears. Other than that I loved the laptop but it was enough to return it. The GE doesn't have the same slim form factor but it still looks like a nice laptop and if the speakers are even average I'll have to think about buying it.

The speakers on the GT models are excellent as far as NB speakers go.
GS series are somewhat limited when compared against GT series. GE should be similar to GS but it is situated on a lower segment of market.

There's a discount right now on the GS73 with the 1600 and the 7700 at my local retailer and I want to jump on it but I'm worried I'll buy it and the version with the 1070 will come out the day after I can no longer return it

The only speakers that impressed me with speakers last gen was Acer's Predators and that's based on how loud they got without sounding like the speakers were going to blow, not actual sound quality.

well, I've pulled the trigger and ordered the GS73 with the 1060 and 120hz panel at a pretty good price of $2000 CAD (roughly $1500 USD)

It's such a good price that I can get an external GPU and I bet it'll still be cheaper than the 1070 version when it comes. AND i'm not even sure that the 1070 version is ever actuallycoming..

I will return it if something shows up over the next few days before I take delivery

Nice find, so this confirms the GS63VR with 1070. I hope and pray that this refresh comes with a better speaker. If so, it will probably be a day 1 purchase for me. Loved everything else about the laptop other than the abysmal speakers.

It is nice to get some sort of release window. However, MSI has done this in the past. They come out with something lower end. Then a year later they beef it up. Meanwhile the next generation GPU will more than likely drop at the same time. Like the 1170. So while they drop a 1070 model, other manufacturers are already dropping 1170 models. If you buy the 1070 you now have 1 year old tech. Which means 1 year closer to obsolescence.

By the time Q3 rolls around, we'll be talking about Nvidia's Volta.

I honestly think the 1070 SKU doesn't see the light of day, due to Volta being so close at that point. An 1160/2060 will likely crush the 1070, so what's the point?

Looks like both the gs63 and gs73 with the 1070 are still coming. Probably see them in around 7-10 days from what I am seeing. $2300-$2400 for the 73 and only has a 4K screen variant.

And are you saying it will ONLY come in a 4k variant?
