hi hopehelp. my fps at dirt3 all high is only 30fps. gtx 660m cannot overclock.. thats good performance of yours can you try testing the same setting without overclocking.? thanks
also how much are you adding when overclocking? is it maximum? please teach me how much will i add. im a newbie on overclocking..
how did you update to 1.2 patch in dirt 3?
-
First you have to download the software for overclocking your VGA
MSI Afterburner 2.2.2 (2012-06-20)
(There are other programs, you can choose one of them)
As soon as you can lay your hand on the software, you will see this window
To overclock, you just drag the core clock and memory clock tab according to how much your vga can endure; you can test by running Furmark.
However, 650m can be overclocked to the maximum of After Burner (+135,+1000) and I also do it.
By the way, if you interested in dirt3 1.2 patch, you can download it from Softpedia I hope this will fix your low fps issue. -
how will i know the how much overclocking can my vga endure? by monitoring the temp right?
-
You can't overclock with the shipping driver for 660m version of GE60, it reverts to default the default one second after setting it.
You can see this on the afterburner chart. Someone else discussed this earlier. -
Hey team,
After reading 40ish pages of this thread, I was looking for a soultion to me GE-60 660 woes as well. I can confirm that, the 660 performance is not really what it should be on the factory drivers.
For those who have submitted in the Nvidia Beta thread, do you had a link or thread number to follow up with?
Hoping this is fixed soon as I'd love to use this thing to it's potential! -
304.48 beta drivers thread Official NVIDIA 304.48 BETA Display Driver Feedback Thread For NVIDIA Geforce Desktop/Notebook/ION GPUs - NVIDIA Forums - Page 28, see the first post for how to post feedback.
After testing it (304.48) for a week or so I can say that the 296.31 drivers offers far more stable performance, but the more feedback we give to NVIDIA the better will the final 304.48 drivers hopefully be -

Ah. Hopehelp's Furmark was run ay 720p. That would explain the temperatures.
Hmm. Try 1080p if you could. -
Has anyone else use the 302.59 drivers, seems to give a bit better performance for me.
-
GTX 660m overclocks properly for me.
Try nVidia Inspector.
I'm not having any issues with games, but I don't own Dirt 3 or Resident Evil 5, if I did I'd test them. Have the owners getting low framerates with these games disabled vertical sync and checked their AA settings? Do we really need AA on a 15.6" 1920x1080 panel? DPI is high at this size/rez.
Seen the temps of the 7970m or GTX 680 in the dual-fan Clevo P170EM? The temperatures of these new die-shrunk CPUs & GPUs seem to be noticeably higher than last year's hardware. It certainly doesn't help that the GE60/70 are the thinnest and lightest notebooks on the market with this new hardware.
And nVidia & ATI always take forever to release drivers for new GPUs. -
I've tested GE60 GTX660M overclocked with Furmark, stock driver and thermal compound, ambient temperature is 80F Turbo Fan on. Max temperature reached 89C with Furmark running for about 30 minutes:

Just got mine yesterday - so far I'm loving it! Waiting for my MSata SSD, but in the meantime, downloading 304.79 660m drivers. They just came out in beta today...
-
Doesn't look like that driver supports the 660m.. :S
Keep us updated though. Would be awesome if you could overclock with this one. -
The list of supported cards on the page I downloaded from (GeForce.com) showed the 660m in the supported list.

Wish I had had more time to test this morning but I had to go to work shortly after I got it installed.
-
So xotic says there is no mSATA port on the 660m variant, yet this thread says differently. Who's correct?

Taken from GenTech's GE70 (660m) video:

How come the 660m gets so much hotter than the 650m? My 650m has never gone above 80C after hours of gaming.
89C after 30 minutes of gaming seems hot to me. Was that with stock thermal paste ken? -
-
I guess I'll find out Monday when my mSata drive arrives ... -
-
/\______________ that.

Okay tested the new beta drivers that came out yesterday for the 660m and I got:
No overclocking: 11434 on 3DMark Vantage (graphics core 9603)
Max Temp: 77C
+135 Core Clock: 12327 on 3DMark Vantage (graphics score 10757 12% increase over stock)
Max Temp: 82C
+135 Core Clock AND +600 memory clock: 12690 on 3DMark Vantage (graphics score 11151 16% increase over stock)
Max Temp: 82C
No Overclocking: 2253 on 3DMark 11 (graphics score 2311)
Max Temp: 83C
+135 Core Clock: 2851 on 3DMark 11 (graphics score 2598 12% increase)
Max Temp: 88C -
xotic says the GE60 650M has a mSATA port but the 660M variant does not. I guess they are wrong?
-
Yes, for the 1 millionth time they are wrong, there are pictures on here showing the MOBO says "SATA" on it when opening up the bottom.

Wow I didnt really expect the GE60/660 would be that much hotter than the GE70/660.
@Pharm you have a GE60 or 70? -
i'm really hoping i don't see any issues with this 660m
i don't understand how they can release a product with virtually no support -
few questions:
1. which "new" version of drivers are you using?
2. what program are you using to oc?
3. ge60 or 70?
sorry if these were answered above, thanks -

MSI Afterburner was used to OC
GE60, though it appears everyone's GE70's are running a lot cooler probably due to the larger frame, which has much more airflow. -
More voltage and more heat makes sense to me.
Of course the side effect to this should also be better stability at higher clocks. -

Overclocking gtx 660m -
Looks like the Asus owner has a much faster CPU, any idea which one?
This is my GE60 0ND. Check out the Graphics Score & CPU Score vs the Asus.
Stock clocks on the left; OC'd +135/+700 on the right. Stock Drivers 296.31:
-
He seems to have the i7 3610QM as well (he says in the first post that it's from Best Buy and based on the model number the stock CPU for that in the 3610QM), so I don't know what they're doing differently... :S
-
anyone know's if optimus is still working on the beta drivers?
what's the temp difference from the stock thermal paste to some better repasting at stock clocks and OC? someone has tried this?
tks! -
Have you guys heard about Prema and what he has accomplished with 3610qm/650m?

It's insane! -
I came so close to buying the W110ER, but got the MSI instead. -
How much cooler does the GT 650m run compared to the GTX 660m on the GE60? I am interested in getting the GTX 660m just because it has a little more power but it seems there are possible heating problems.

Ken did another GE70/GE60 vantage/furmark video.
Both machines were in the 80's after 14mins.
Not so bad imo with OC and stock paste. -
Nice, this definitely puts the GE60 on the top of my list for laptop choices.
-
So I won't recommend test Furmark beyond 970/1515, I think it will damage GPU. -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Oh that's what you think. Wait until I play with it for a few days.
And besides, I rarely touch memory clocks. I focus on core. -
I've qns regarding temperature on my GE60 GTX660m. My GE60 is on a flat surface, no laptop cooler. The temperature at idle is average 65 for CPU and 60 for GPU. When I stress the GPU with Furmark, it reaches 95degree in 15mins (turbo fan on). Is this normal?

Hmm. I think I know what my nickname/suffix will be: BBK. As in GE60-BBK. I'll tell you what it means later.
