The other dilemma is in the weight. The GE60 is 1.55lbs lighter than the NP9130 but I'm not sure if the trade-off between the 670M to the 660M would be worth it.

I was supposed to get this laptop a week ago but since xoticpc did not process my order yet due to problems with the crdit card being intl(now fixed).i also was leaning towards the 9130 but the main problem i could think of is the warranty. Since sager does not have a service center in my area(philippines) and if i receive a laptop with defects then shipping it back for repairs will be crazy because of the money i have to shell out. 660m is weaker but in notebookcheck it makes very little difference an average of 4-8 fps atmost in games. Another thing i would like to point out is the fact that it comes with windows which cost 80-120$. So its value at its best. Sorry to say but the only reason why i wanted the 9130 was the gpu upgreadability which i thought was possible but after xoticpc convincing me that it cant be done, then i must go towards the msi. Another point is the fact that if i sell the laptop later on mainstream laptop is better since i can ask a good asking price, i mean if i sell a clevo who would pay my price if people dont even know the brand(thats here in ph). Another is its weight. I guess the ge60 would be easier to take with you. Only way i am getting a sager now, is if i get the 9150 w a 675(yes, not a 680 since imo its overkill) in it which is out of my budget range as this is only what my money can buy(1200$at most).

Also i tried asking for considerations but they wont move(look at my previous post in this thread. Maybe a page or two back)

    Howdy Guys,

I recently received my GE60 from Xoticpc and am currently very happy with it. One thing that did not come with the computer was a manual, since MSI integrates ~many~ different hotkeys into their design it has been a bit of a struggle figuring out how to do everything that I would like to do with it. That said, I have a stupid question someone here may be able to answer:

Has anyone figured out how to turn off the external led lights? I have never had a computer that wouldn't allow me to turn off the lights so as to reduce the glare in a dark room.

    Thanks for your help.

MSI is slighty more expensive i think...

There tons of thread about 650m vs 660m vs 670m...

At the end they all gonna play most of your game at high/very high...

Its more a question of price/performance...

the GT60 was 300$ more than the GE60... I know theres more than a videocard upgrade but... thats a lot of money for more or less the same performance..

But yeah... the GE60 is very portable... dead silent in "non gaming mode"... gives good performance in gaming... very good screen... keyboard is good (but no backlight)...

Some people have the feeling that it look "cheap" but meh... 1200$ is a damn good price for that much power.

    3dmark scores with a small overclock: p2900 to p3000

:D Lovely. javaw.exe for me. Many thanks guys!

The 128GB looks alright. If you think that it will do, then go for it.

But how much capacity do you need? I've got 3x1TB external USB 3.0 drives that I deem "necessary" for entertainment. There is a bunch of cables attached to my laptop at the moment but that's more to do with me wanting to use all the ports. I honestly only really need 2 cables. 1 cable for any on of my 1TB hard drives and 1 cable for charging my SIII. Very manageable. Oh, and the power cable.

If you need >=500-<=1TB then mSATA would be a nice route to take, but if you need >=1TB then I'd argue at this point, you'd want a media server or external drives.

The Transcend 64GB and 128GB SATA III mSATA SSDs are what MSI offerers as an option in the GE series here in Seoul.

So, from looking around at reviews and comments it seems like the GE60 has a nicer screen than the GE70? Is this true? I'd prefer the bigger screen, but quality trumps size (although I wouldn't want anything smaller than a 15.6" laptop).

I had a GE60 with matte high gamut. It was a super nice screen. Very bright, great color, and great viewing angles.

Not sure how it compares to the GE70 but comparing it to my G73 glossy standard and it was no contest. The GE60
beat it in every aspect while still being a matte screen.

no one answered my question about the speakers, but i found out that sometimes it uses 2, and sometimes it uses 4... not sure why, but ok!

my new question is if anyone is having problems with their stock wifi card? I usually don't shut my laptop down, just close the case and hibernate, and now lately i've noticed that after bringing it back up, it lags like crazy. pings are like 600ms when its normally 64ms. My wifes laptop is fine, work laptop seems ok too... so i switched to the cat5 lan and it was ok

if i reboot my router, the problem goes away, so originally i thought it was my router, but it doesn't seem so...
pondering if i need a new wifi card...

I will actually get mine on Tuesday, but in the same boat with the Crucial mSATA. I guess having the best price to performance/capacity ratio by far makes chips fly off the shelves.

Got my MSI GE60 yesterday! Have been spending alot of time adding and removing some basic programs. I have been trying to remove some of the bloatware that was installed on my machine. One is giving me some difficulty. I installed Microsoft Security Essentials and plan on using this as my virus/spyware protection for now.

I went to uninstall the trial of trend micro from my computer. Using the uninstall function in Windows, I click uninstall, it goes through the steps and asks me to restart. However, after restartng the program still appears on my list of programs in the uninstall utility as well as on my harddrive. I am hoping someone could troubleshoot this for me. I am sure I am missing something stupid.

Also, does MSI Afterburner come preinstalled? I have been unable to locate it. Can you guys recommend any other utility programs that I may benefit from. I would like to do a few benchmarks and monitor my GPU temps, etc. Also, would it be ok to uninstall the THX audio program and stick to using the Realtek one instead?

This what I'll be doing when I get my mSATA drive. I already made the Win7 Home Premium ISO disc. Until then I"m just playing around on it doing benchmarks. Got a ~2800 3DMark 2011. For some reason PCMark 7 didn't run correctly and it said my processor was only at 1.8Ghz. Got around 2500 for it.

Is there any review on the :

MSI GE60 0ND-047US Gaming Notebook (Black)
    - Intel Core i7-3610QM, 8GB RAM, 750GB HDD (7200RPM), DVD +/- RW
    - 15.6" Full HD LED Display, NVIDIA GTX 660M, Windows 7 Home Premium

? I see some of the extended model numbers are off... any help or thoughts on this one ?

I can not find this model on the MSI website, nor can I find any of the drivers for the GE60, since I want to toss a SSD into the laptop/format it and install a fresh copy of windows

Is this the driver page for MSI GE60 0ND-047US ??

Getting some odd behavior with Killing Floor. My 660m is triggering correctly, and MSI Afterburner's OSD FPS counter is telling me I have a steady 60fps, but somehow the game seems choppy. Anyone having odd behavior? It was fine during the summer event, but now it's just all weird.

EDIT: It seems everytime I start KF a file gets corrupted according to the file integrity checker. I'll redownload and see what happens.

I am trying to figure out if I want this MSI or go with the Asus N56VZ ... There seems to be a lot of CONS with this MSI, mind you it is at a lesser price point. Seems you can not use official NVIDIA drivers for this MSI either, you have to use MSI posted video drivers. The keyboard and mouse and over all build quality seems lesser then the Asus. I have also read posts that the unit get warm/hot. The track pad is not very good and most people recommend using a mouse with the MSI.

Can anyone clear up anything about the MSI, perhaps if what I have been reading is true? I am on the fence with both laptops... MSI is better bang for the buck it seems at 1149.00 and the Asus at 1249.00 .... the the extra $100 I may take piece of mind over issues. Let me know what you think. Thanks :)

The fact that the Asus uses DDR3 video memory vs MSI's DDR5 was enough for me to rule out that Asus laptop.

Keyboard and trackpad work fine for me. I use a mouse with a laptop anyways but the times I've had to use the trackpad I've had no problems.

I play Diablo3 at full settings 1920x1200 on an external monitor, and my unit does not get warm / hot to the touch. The exhaust vent blows warm air but it is nowhere near what my lenovo was.

The build quality with mine is fine. I have heard some people have had issues with the trackpad, for instance, but MSI has been great about replacing those units from every thread I have read.

Good luck in whatever you choose. The Asus was a draw for me, too, but in the end, I'm very glad I went with the MSI.

I just received my new MSI GE60 0ND-047US on Friday and it is a very nice laptop, but I have one concern.

Not quite sure how to describe the issue, but I have attached an image to help. msi ge60.jpg

Basically, the bottom part of the top bezel is not attached and there is a small space between the bezel and the screen. It doesn't affect performance, but I am wondering if this is common on this model of laptop, so I can decide if it is worth doing an RMA.

The trackpad and keyboard are ok. My only complaint with the keyboard is that the keys have too high resistance so it's more fatiguing to type a lot than it needs to be.
I am running nvidia drivers. The screen is great. I recommend this laptop

So excited for my ge60. It is in production now over at xoticpc. I hope i did not make a mistake by getting this instead of the 9130! Got it with the wireless upgrade so i get better wifi connection(i would like to think its a major upgrade for the 25$ @[email protected] it really does make a difference)! :)

i was at canada computers the other day and the sales rep said that the only problem with this laptop is that it tends to get very hot. i was wondering if this is true? have people had this problem, or will it even occur? if so, is it detrimental? thanks

I would like to think that the cooling system is ample. You can look at youtube for the stresstest done by gentech if i am not mistaken. Both seem to stay in the safe temps(not going over 80c) compared to my macbookunibody, u just open flash and boom you get temps over 90c and downclocking/lags begin and i bet if you drop an egg over the left keyboard i have no doubts it will cook -.-

I've found myself suddenly thinking about buying an MSI GE70. For the past week I'd been on the verge of getting a Sager NP6370, but I've started to lose confidence in the brand after hearing that the BIOS disables the turbo on the CPU altogether when the GPU is under load. So in the interest of avoiding any unpleasant surprises, I figure it might be worth the extra $120 some-odd dollars to go with a computer that I know people have had for a couple of months without anybody's bursting into flame or anything.

Is there any compelling reason why I shouldn't do this? My top concerns at this point are probably heat management and keyboard quality. From skimming through this thread it sounds like the cooling situation is average at worst (better than I expected given the slim frame and small vent), but I haven't heard much about the keyboard.

Where did you hear that? What I stated in my review is that the CPU does not underclock when the dedicated GPU is in use. Also what temperature is considered "under load"?

the keyboard is of excellent quality and it is definitely great for gaming however it takes awhile to get used to it. It may not be fun to type an essay on however.

    Hey there,

I know this is not really the place, but I'm currently looking for a new notebook that is portable, but still works well for gaming and photo/video editing. I have already looked at several and am torn between the MSI GE60 and the Samsung 700Z5A.

As for gaming and editing I mainly plan to use it for Guild Wars 2 and editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, After Effects and Sony Vegas Pro.
I already have quite a powerful desktop at home, but I’ll be going to Japan for 6 months so I won’t really have access to it. Still, I plan to travel around with it so weight and portability are therefore quite important. These two don’t differ much on that front though.

The MSI seems to have way better performance, but the Samsung looks more durable, slick, has the 8GB SSD Cache and a longer lasting battery.

Linking them below. The specs might be a little different as they apparently have different machine types here in the Netherlands, opposed to the U.S.

Any feedback is much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

    MSI GE60 0NC-001NL (= €1099,- / $1354)

*For the Samsung, perhaps it might be worth it to upgrade the RAM to 8GB?

    Hello Everyone

So, based on the reviews I read and lurking in this forum for the past few weeks, I went out a bought a GE60. I've had it for about a week and it is a very nice machine, but it has one issue that is annoying the heck out of me.

When I am not using the laptop, or just doing light work like using the Internet, the fan is constantly speeding up for a few seconds and then slowing down for a few seconds and then speeding back up. It does it when plugged in or on battery. Now it is not the noise level itself that bugs me, but the continuing change in noise level that is so distracting, plus I'm worried about the long term wear and tear on the fan this might be causing.

I tried download Afterburner, but it doesn't have an option to control the system fan. All it shows me is the CPU is running between 35-40C when this is happening.

I'd hate to have to return this otherwise great laptop, so does anyone have any ideas on why it is doing this or better yet, how to stop it from happening?

Question, Gwag: is Optimus working properly? Is the Turbo button unlit while you're browsing?

Considering your uses, the better overall package would be the MSI. The Ivy Bridge quad should feel a lot better with your editing than a Sandy Bridge dual, and the 650m should be noticeably better than the 6750m.

The Samsung might feel "snappier" because of the SSD cache, but provided you have the money and someone to buy from, it's not hard at all to install your own mSATA drive.

Hi all I really need some advice here.
I ordered the ge60 that comes with SATA 750gb hdd. I suppose the recovery/win 7 OS is inside the hdd

I brought a crucial m4 256gb ssd. I plan to use this ssd as my OS drive. My question is do I need to set any parameter in bios to detect the ssd? Or it's a plug and play thing?
Can someone pls enlighten me what's the process? I read some forum about setting achi ??

And 2nd question, how do I install a fresh win 7 OS onto the ssd?
Let's assume I got the win7 installation that can be register using the COA sticker. Do I insert the cd then boot the laptop up then press and key to start win 7 setup?
    Pls pls help

The Turbo button is not lit up when browsing. It does come on when I'm playing games and turns off when I am finished, so it seems to be working.

After I installed the SSD, I made a windows 7 Home Premium ISO disc, put it in the cd-rom drive and restarted the laptop. The bios already had the cd-rom as the first boot device and listed the SSD as the 2nd boot device. With the ISO in the drive it automatically started the windows installation from disc. I formatted the 750GB HDD from the setup and installed windows on the SSD. Took about 30-45 minutes because the slowest part is waiting on the stuff from the slower cd-rom drive to copy.

I didn't have to mess with anything. I just checked to make sure the boot order was right to boot from CD and the order was

    Boot1: CD-ROM
    Boot2: SSD
    Boot3: 750GB HDD

hate to sound like a , but did you try searching the thread? this question has been asked like 5 times. I know its grown to 100 pages, but all the info is there...

-to answer your question, you don't need to change any special settings in the bios, just the order of boot
-there is no recovery cd included, you have to burn your own copy using the recovery tool on the desktop
-the ssd is like a regular hdd, so if you've ever reinstalled windows, or a new hdd, then its the same process

i disagree that this keyboard is excellent quality
it really depends on what you plan on doing with it, and if you are a fast typer or a hunt and peck type of typer... if you're a hunt and peck type, then i guess its ok, but personally i wouldn't consider it very good

maybe for gaming with the typical wasd keys, but i find it often still missing some keystrokes

that being said, i still really really recommend this laptop, i have the ge70 version and its been great after i got my replacement
