Hello guys! I was wondering the NEW SATA 2nd HDD caddy for 12.7mm Universal CD/DVD-ROM is okay to use as the HDD caddy for replacing the ODD with the HDD on the MSI ge60. Is that fine?
And if anyone could kindly explain to me how I would install this thing![]()
I have the new MSI ge60 with 660M and I've been using it for 2 days and I dont know why the turbo is always on? Is there a way to turn it off?
-
-
I usually get the Turbo on problem when I've done a new, clean driver install. Just reboot the machine, and see what triggers the GPU (start up the programs you usually have running and see when it lights up), then set that manually to use the integrated GPU in nVidia Control Panel.

I am looking to upgrade my i5 to an i7QM. I was wondering if anyone has done it here and what her/his experiences with it are?
Are the cooling system in the Ge60 i5 and Ge60 i7Qm the same? -
I just got an MSI GE70 0ND-213US laptop today and it seems to be acting strange. For one the touch pad is being very annoying. Let's say I'm playing a game and while I'm walking it won't turn until I stop moving. Another issue is when I'm doing something another window might just open. My laptop is Windows 8. Any suggestions on how to fix this or anything?

People, I need HELP. Could someone with GE70 create a How-To video of removing HDD, RAM and ODD bay from laptop for my father?
He is absolutely noob in any kind of work with computers. And I need simple video tutorial with calm voice telling him what to do.
I want him to send me a laptop without HDD, RAM, DVD drive, battery to decrease weight and customs.
P.S. zookoo. Could you post a video of your problem? It's hard to understand. Most likely bad drivers. Download latest driver for touchpad from Synaptics (or whoever manufactured touchpad). -
what i find is that the thouch pad is very sensitive. And sometimes it is so sensitve you accidently click something.
can´t help you out on that one James D or will a GE60 work as well? -

Hey everyone,
I just installed a new mssd in my GE70. I now have an had that has my OS on it and the ssd that is empty. I want to move my OS on the ssd and use the had as a secondary drive. The thing is, my laptop did not come with a cd to reinstall windows 8. So what do you guys recommend me to do to get the OS onto the ssd and use the had as a secondary?
Cheers! -

and if you speak german:

pretty much make back up cd´s and run them. -
The touchpad is unreliable about clicking where it should not. But playing with the sensitivity settings you should find something that works.
@itztehmartian: a similar discussion was held a couple months back in this thread. The conclusion was that it doesn't matter much where you get the windows installation files from as long as you have a valid license key, which you should have at the bottom of your GE70, and you use that license key during the installation. Someone had a good link for W7HP in this thread but I don't remember where. -

Hi, I have a MSI GE60 0ND with a nVIDIA 660M GPU (310.70 drivers, Windows 8). I tried using MSI Afterburner to over clock it but I even after changing the clock speed, the GPU still runs at 835 MHz. As mentioned in some websites, I tried enabling unofficial overclocking but that didn't work. Any ideas?

Overclock.bat
Code:
nvidiaInspector.exe -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,135 -setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,500 -setpowertarget:0,111 -setVoltageOffset:0,0,0 -setGpuClock:0,2,1000 -setMemoryClock:0,2,2500 -forcepstate:0,1

I'm starting to think if it's a "safety" feature in the vBIOS... after all, warranty is voided if you so much as open the back cover, so I wouldn't be surprised if MSI disabled overclocking. Either that or Windows 8 doesn't play nicely with overclocking. -

Can anyone tell me something about the screen quality?
I had the GT70 earlier, and it had so much grain due to the anti glare filter, that i returned it.
really want to order the GE60 if the screen is better.
i think it was due to the CHIMEI brand they used for the GT70 screens. -
I'm not sure what panel the GE60 has, but it's definitely not grainy. It has pretty nice colours as well and it's very bright (for me at least; anything much above 50% brightness is way too bright for my eyes).
So overall I wouldn't be worried about the screen at all.
-
like a user in this thread mentioned, some of the MSI screens looks like they have olive oil on them, they are really that bad.
for someone who works with photos it was impossible to use. -
i find the screen very good. Vibrant colors, good resolution. For the money a really good screen. But dont compare it with laptops over 3000$

Here's a screenshot of my Synaptics settings Screenshot by Lightshot Should it look like that and if not what should do?

Hey guys, thanks for all the help on my last post. After re installing windows 8, 3 of the buttons (in the row near the power button) have stopped working. I can't open the dvd tray with the button. I can't turn off the screen with the button. Lastly, I have wifi enabled and its working, but the button where you can turn the WiFi o or off won't light up. If anyone has any suggestions about how to fix this, (i suspect it is a drivers error), please let me know.

Did you make sure to install the SCM software?
-
I just got my GE60 in the past few days. The screen is pretty gorgeous so I wouldn't worry about that! The touchpad works well for me with stock software. I haven't really found anything to dislike - even with Win8!

Today I am the proud new owner of the MSI GE70. Unfortunately, I've also blundered.
I purchased this computer used off of ebay. The original owner had the stock HDD replaced with the 120gb sata III MUSHKIN SSD. Unfortunately, I was under the impression that it had 2 Sata slots, when it actually has 1 Sata and 2 MSata (as I understand it). So my dilemma is, what are my options for obtaining additional storage without blowing my already maxed budget.
I have the following to work with - The 120gb sata III MUSHKIN SSD that is coming with the laptop and a Seagate 2.5" 500GB Sata that is coming out of my old laptop.
Thanks for the help! -
If they send you faceplate without any button there then write a PM to them with photo and mot likely they will refund 2$. I had such situation with another seller. -
Hey guys! I'm new to this forum (yay!) and i'd like to ask, if it is possible to put a 1080p FHD screen on a previously 768p laptop. I'm considering buying a GE60 i3 + 650m laptop that only has that 768p screen. I have a tight budget currently, but I am planning on upgrading the cpu and the screen inthe future. Would this be possible?? I'm kinda imagining it to be as VGA ports can be versitile. thanks!
-
@samuel55, are you aware that screen itself will cost you like 200$ plus-minus. And most likely you will have to buy 1080p cable or even little board for transferring that much information. So NO, you will not save any money... you will loose it.
But you can buy an i3 and upgrade CPU later. It will cost like 200-250$. -
but all i can buy is the 768p screen laptop right now. Although it would be great if it is possible. Can someone confirm this?
I'd be willing to pay more in the future coz i really can't buy the 1080p version right now. XD thanks!

Dont mind my bad english, bad sound and the quality. But i hope this is usefull for some people. -
Ive been looking at the MSI GE60 i5 for a while now but Im wondering how the cooling system is and how much noise it makes when its handling big programs. As I will mostly use in my bed or in the couch, that was the reason I decided to buy a new one in the first place as the old one´s cooling intakes sounded and felt like jet exaust, it even melted my plastic platform I used to keep it off the couch. And lastly how it battery life when watching like a movie? My old one had at best just 3 hours and could just manage 1.5-2 hours when watching a movie.
Thanks for the help! -
the cooling is really good and when you are just doing internet inaudiable. I dont know about heavy stuff i always have the turbo cooling on which sounds like a jet but cools like a fridge. Battery life is max 5 hours at powersaving mode. But for normal use more like 2 hours
-
ok, is it worth uppgrading to the GT70 for 300 dollars more?
-
The GT70 defently offers more preformance. Given it has the i7QM instead of the 5 and got better graphics i´d say it is worth it. You´d have to comprimise on weight tho
-
The GT60/70 might be a better option for you if you don't plan to move it around a lot and if you play often. However neither of these laptops are the size which you can comfortably use in a bed (at least it's not very comfortable for me, that's why I got a tablet for Christmas).
Battery life is a bit over 4 hours if used lightly on low brightness, however with the i5 version you can probably last a bit longer. You can definitely get 3+ hours of movie time though.

Anyone else having freezing issues? Happens after re-opening the lid....

I've gone through two MSI ge60s with w8 and both appear to have something wrong with the wireless. Randomly throughout the day I keep losing connection, and using Troubleshoot always fixes it. The results are usually "problem with wireless adapter or access point" coupled with "A network cable is not plugged in properly or may be broken". The Troubleshooter resets the wireless adapter and that fixes it.
I've bought a new wireless router to try and isolate the problem. Going close or far away from the wireless router makes no difference. Some days it is fine for many hours, and other times it happens frequently throughout the day. I've messed with a whole bunch of settings, both on the router and on the laptop, and nothing has fixed it (tried static ip addresses, etc). Tried installing the latest drivers too, of course.
It's worth noting that my other 4 laptops in the house do not have this issue.
Anyone have this issue as well? Is it possible to replace the wireless card with ease, and if so, does it void the warranty? -
-
Does Window's Troubleshoot work for you? If so, what does it say? -
My right mouse button is really *sticky* and hard to press. Does anybody know the right procedure to removing it and re-attaching it?
-
What wireless adapter is in MSI GE? 0NC preferably.
Will it work for Intel Wi-Di? -
What wireless card do you have? if you dont have a killer 1103 then there might be wrong with the ge60. I am back at my dorm trying a different router and i still experience this disconnection so thats 3 routers now(1 asus and 1 dlink at home and 1 zyxel in my dorm) i am really hoping its the router since they are cheap and not dual band. I want to try a dual band router but I cant since i recently purchased a ss sensei,siberiav2 and a razer blackwidow. Maybe in 2 months. If you have an expensive router preferably a dual band router try it out and report back here. I feel its my cheap routers since i tried looking at reviews of the ones i have from amazon and all of them seem to have this issue. I hope this is not a hardware issue because if it is i have to spend a lot of money shipping my laptop back to xoticpc from the Philippines.
Is it possible to replace the laptop keyboard of the ge60? where can i purchase the keyboard? I have this shiny spot on my alt and it bothers me alot. I got it from constantly pressing alt during dota2. -
there is a guy on NBR who sells heaе-sinks and other parts. maisterMSi perhaps.
-
It's interesting we're both getting similar issues but with different wireless cards... maybe there's something else wrong with the laptop. Although, Troubleshoot fixes mine unlike yours. -
-
Anyway, after much testing, it'd just randomly happen at any given time. Even if I was away from it and wasn't using it, I'd come back to see it had lost connection. It won't ever reconnect by itself unless I use Troubleshoot. (I had disabled all of the power saving features that might otherwise turn it off from lack of use, by the way). -
