Yeah mine gives some noise too occasionally, even when there is no DVD inside. It's not very loud though and I've found that it goes away for a while if you move the drive a bit.

Is it easy to install a msata SSD in the GE70 0ND-213 (windows 8)? Also, it may sound even silly (I am just really unexperienced), but is it hard to paste the laptop? And is it worth doing it? Thanks
-
Hey guys. Back again.
I have a 128gb mssd installed in my GE70-0nd in the mssd slot. This is where my OS (windows 8) is installed. I am only getting read and write speeds of about 10mb/s. Is this good or is this completly wrong?
Thanks
EDIT: I just used CrystalDiskMark and read was 469 mb/s and write was 80 mb/s. When I use task manager to look at performance it still only says 10 mb/s for read. Wy is this so low? -
You should notice an increase in mic performance right away. Yay! Our computer mics don't suck! -
Give us a screenshot so we could say for sure. -

When it's making the noise, if you press on the DVD housing (like you're going to push the button but not actually touching the button) does the sound cease?
For some off reason my old GE60 and GX660R (which used the same BR Drives, since I transplanted then) would get really loud when reading DVDs but not Blu-Rays. -
Is there a way to figure out which program is triggering my TURBO button? Also is there a way to set what programs it turns on with? Thanks if you can help me.
-
When it becomes blue it means that Nvidia GPU kicked in.
-
-
Just go to the Nvidia control centre and adjust settings for certain programs and swich them if you want

So, since I installed Win8 & updated the BIOS the PC now has this weird thing where the attached USB devices do not power down, after I shut down. Pretty sure there is no option in the BIOS to correct this...
It's pretty lame that the cooling pad doesn't stop after I shut down.
Suggestions? -
There is an option to charge USB devices while turned off. Perhaps only 1 posrt is like this. Check settings in BIOS to be sure.

And what is the 513? I know that it was 10E before 10F.
i-charger must be the one. Did you do power drain? -
-
The DVD burner is indeed not very well fitted. Lots and lots of movement possible. Not too much of a problem imo

Hi all
I have ge60 0ND
My problem is gtx 660m stayed 835mhz
in game not boost 950 mhz
can you help me
thanks -
matrix, be sure you use power plug AC connected and balanced power plan or even better High Performance.
You can update Nvidia drivers too. Use clean install option.
That i for beginning. -

Here is BIOS 513: http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GE70-0NC.html#/?div=BIOS&nbos=win8
Power drain? -
can you guys link me on how to overclock the 660? how many frame rates more do i get if i overclock it? thanks
-
There are 2 ways an easy one and a good one. THe easy one is just install MSi Afterburner which lets you raise the core clock by 135MHz and the mem clock by 1000MHz. This is very limited at only 135MZz. But i´d say if you use your overclock permanently you dont want much more because of heat and chance your chip will die soon.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...guide-workaround-max-clocks-oc-stability.html
This is the advanced thing. I used this to set my benchmarks scores. I got my 650m up to 1160 core and 3200 mem clock. This resulted in those score:
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i5-3210M Processor,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16GA score: P11094 3DMarks
The highest 3dmark vantage for i5 and 650m. Check this with the average to see where OC can bring you. If you need help with it you can PM me -
around the same as i did on my 650m and i5
But it seems a decent score. I mean for real life gaming such a big overclock as i did isnt good at all. I´d say for casual use stick to the 135Mhz OC.
-
-
seems fair. I´d expect it to be a little more in some games tho. If you look stock clocks are 970Mhz and OC s 135MHz which is around 14% more. SO maybe even more than 10%.

The "easy" +135 overclock is probably the best one for normal use... temperature is about the same... very stable... Also the "Boost" is still active so... the gpu goes as fast as 1085mhz (gtx 660m).
Sure you can push it further with the nvidia inspector way... sure you might see another slighty improvement but... the gpu will get even warmer...its not that much a problem but... the fan... omg the fan can get so loud on that thing!
Also theres a stability issue...
Anyway i did push mine to 1150mhz with NV inspector... yet i leave it to +135 with MSI Adterburner.
Bottom line... you wont have enough overclock to move from "high" quality to "higher" quality...but you will get a nice boost for those fps drop during heavy gameplay.
With MSI Afterburner you dont have to worry about the shortcut crap... and personally i love the Optimus chip... during internet browsing... the laptop is dead silent... and i love it this way -
weird thing happened to me after overclocking. I played dota and right after an alt tab my fps went down to half(60-30) i had to restart my dota2 to return it to normal fps. 1st time this happend. -

Anyone got experience with the 650m and i5 (or i7) running BF3. What settings would you recommend for best fps and quality? I am running on evrything high and fps are ok i guess.
-
I think its a cool application and very useful
-
Just got my GE70.
Two question:
1) I know the Cooler Boost button ramps up fan speed. But what are some interesting uses? Obvious one would be for overclocking I guess.
2) What's with the crappy Elan driver? I mean it seems that the trackpad can do much more than what the current utility allows. Just looks at some of the videos in: C:\Program Files\Elantech
Anyone got a driver newer than 11.13.0.2? That's the latest driver on MSI.com and it seems that Elan doesn't provide drivers on their website. -
As you say turbo button is for extra cooling. I run it while benchmarking and gaming. Temps are always <80 C even with an OC.
-
2) I just leave it on and I guess " if it aint broken then it doesnt need fixing" -
Also, no Equalizer in Realtek HD Audio Manager? And there's some random Creative tab in it with "Soundblaster Audigy" logo. What the heck?! Some things are just so screwed up about this laptop. I don't think this has a Creative sound card. Does anyone know what's the deal? -

Not that anyone was particularly helpful (except James D, so thanks to him), but for the sake of posting fixes I seem to have fixed my issue...although I'm not totally sure how.
I attempted to install the 513 BIOS listed on the MSI site, but the instructions seem to be incomplete. I had previously & successfully installed the 10F BIOS while I was still using Win7. Anyway, I randomly installed MSI SuperCharger....and then uninstalled it a few days later. Since that the USB ports do not seem to give power after shut-down. -

It's the first time I've tried playing with overclocking so I don't know if it's typical or not, but I seem to be having some issues with msi afterburner.
I tried changing the core clock but I noticed that the monitoring on the core clocks always remained at 835 MHz. It didn't go above or below, just a constant 835MHz.
I find that when I run GPU-Z or some other graphics utilizing program, that the core clocks will actually change but still won't go above 835MHz.
Is there some setting in afterburner that I'm not using right or is this just some sort bug? -
What program did you run? When not being challenged the GPU core clock wont hit the extra 135Mhz.
-
-
. I am a happy camper as long as i can play Dota2 at 1080p above 50fps! Thank God for overclocking

Does anyone know of a good guide on how to properly clean a GE70? I've never done it before, and I couldn't find any guides for this laptop.
