Hey all,
the eject button, display button, and P1 button are not functioning.
I have SCM installed. Any ideas?
Thanks!

If you are talking about the fan and stuff, I guess the disassembly guide will be a good start.

Please confirm this guide is for the listed model. I have not opened my GE70 yet. -
Set it to run at start up or run the .exe from the install folder? -
Maybe i changed some setting that messed it up. But thank you for the advice  -

Thanks, but unfortunately not. A browse around the MSI forums confirmed that this is an issue with the GE70 ONC with 10F BIOS & WIn8. See the link in my link
GE70 ONC - USB gives power after shutdown.
Lets hope they release a fix soon.
As a complete side note; I just installed the THX software (I always thought it was bloatware) and let me say that everything sounds a lot better. Not much difference on the laptop speakers but quite an improvement in quality with decent headphones. I recommend trying the software... -

Hi guys! First of all, thanks for your tips, they have been very useful for dissasembling my GE-60
I have one with windows 8 preinstalled and I would like to install windows 7. My unsuccesful attempts have been trying to change the BIOS boot order (fail), disconnect the HDD for forcing BIOS to boot any other thing (USB HDD with installatero, fail, and DVD with ubuntu and windows 7 install, fail too)
Have you try the same? Do i need to install a special version of bios for doing that installation? Maybe the solution have been posted yet, but i've read a lot of reply pages on this thread an a lot left... If a reply have been said, If you link it to me, you will save my guys.
Thanks in advance! -
Got my GE70 a couple days ago and for the money I paid £799 with i7 3630, GT 650M, 750gb HDD with 17.3" 1080p screen its fantastic, the keyboard is fantastic although I'm still getting used to using a touchpad again with the multi touch gestures.
Going to look at replacing the HDD with a SSD as I really don't need the space as such more speed instead really.
Unless I can somehow cram a SSD into it with the HDD.
Windows 8 is much more manageable with retroUI to give back the task bar and start menu. -
-
Tewel. You can either buy mSata SSD which costs more and slower little bit or buy 2nd hdd caddy on ebay to remove optical drive.
Cerot. try to disable safe boot or UEFI. -

Hello I just wanted to ask what fps is expected from a MSI GE60 with GTX 660m and i7 3630QM in a few games. In games like L4D2 I get 60 constant on high (vsync), and in games like Minecraft I get 60+ on fancy and far. In FONV I get 60 constant (vsync). On CSGO I get 65+ on high. But what surprised me was how on Saints Row The Third, I only get 50+ on medium settings. Is this expected? My main question overall is, how well does the 660m play games in terms of FPS.
-
I think it is expected. It all depends on the intensity of the game engine. For instance, I get about 30=45 FPS when playing Farcry 3 on low-med (no anti-aliasing, med textures etc.) at 1600x900. The other thing is what resolution you are playing at. Most games I have played cannot run smoothly at anything more than medium, most more like low at 1920x1080. on 1600x900, I can play World of tanks at an average 55-60fps on medium. on SWTOR , I can do high at 1600x900.
But anything on 1920x1080... then its a different story. Basically, if you bump down the resolution, the games will run at higher fps. Waht you are experiencing is pretty normal I think.
EDIT: Ah! forgot to ask my question! Has anyone tried to undervolt the i7-3630Qm on the ge60? I know of people unvervolting the 660m on the ge60 (Forge), but I haven't seen anyone undervolting the CPU. Is it even possible? I would love to be able to do that, as atm, my CPU is running at an average of 89-93C when gaming. My GPU on gets to around 75C. I can bump the temps down 3C with my new Logitech NC200 notebook cooler, but I'd love to get it down a little more. -
Oh ok thanks. On SWTOR I run everything on high, but with low shadows, and billinear filtering with 1920x1080 res at 55+ fps, but i'll have to double check. I just thought 30 fps on ultra for Saints Row the Third surprising, but I still run the game great at medium. Thanks again.
-
Yeah, the other thing to consider is heat. It's all well and good to run games on high with high fps, but if it heats up your laptop to 90C, then it might not be worth it.
I'm trying to get mine below 88C. -
thedaads... nope. you can not undervolt CPU. But you can clean the fan, repaste CPU, buy a notebook cooler. Or disable cone or couple cores... disable turboboost while playing. Use Throttlestop while playing changing multis.
Also you can buy I7 3612QM on eBay with lesser TDP but that would be dumb
Cerot. Go into Bios. You can google about similar problem on many laptops with Windows 8. -
Ah. Bummer. Thanks for the info James! Too bad though... I can't even open the backpanel on my ge60 because I live in NZ, which only gets limited warranty... T-T I got the laptop cooler though.
I will definitely try disabling the turboboost, and disabling the cores. I'm trying to see if one of the authorised MSI repairers around here is willing to do the re-pasting and maybe adding some extra copper for cooling. -
Contact MSI. As long as I know if you sign your laptop then you can open it. if you don't hen warranty will count since the time of manufacture. But doublecheck it contacting MSI directly.
-
Ok, I'll do that. All of the support staff in the Taiwan and Chinese branches are on holiday, Chinese new year lol! guess they all went back to their hometowns for the celebrations, just like my parents used to do
Also, I love this Logitech NC200 cooling pad! it keeps my ge60 3C cooler when gaming, and it keeps my lap cool as well. Just sucks that I've seen so many reviews saying the thing only lasts 1-3months before the fan breaks. -
If I have any problem I'll post it here, same if I'm succesfull. -
Copypasting this,
-
Hey, does anyone know where I can download a windows 8 iso? I've been looking, apparently, the iso download from the microsoft site is not available in my area...
-
So, haven't gotten a reply back from MSI yet, but did get one from one of the 'authorised' repairers in NZ.
Here's the meesage:
Hi Jim
We can re-paste and clean the cooling system, but cannot modify it, and it will void the warranty if we do re-paste.

Whelp....... might as well do it myself and save a little money -
Hi everyone
Today something horrible happened. The fan in my GE70 started making a horrible noise. Here is the video, you need to watch it with headphones to hear the noise.
It just happened today, randomly. When it's working on idle its making that noise then it switches off, and then starts again.
What is it and how to repair it? Did any of you encountered this problem?
Thank for you help.Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
open it and look if smth is there. perhaps glue metallic tape unglued or wire or you need to oil mechanism. Latest happens only on very old laptops so doubtful
-
The thing is it still might be on warranty, so i dont really wanna open it.
Also the fan turns on works for a few seconds, little bit louder then idle and then turns off. -
You don't lose your warranty if you remove the sticker, it's just bs to scare people away from opening them. (I called them to be sure and they told me I can do it.) Judging by that sound probably something is in contact with the fan, as other said. Just open it up, check the wires and the tape and that'll probably solve the issue.

So, I already use my MSI GE70 for 2 days and comparing it with my ex VAIO F12 I found many BIG advantages and some disadvantages. So I even need a help of you guys.
1. Touchpad. It is too small for FHD and for some reason when I move smth and my finger is already on the edge for some reason arrow do not move longer!Do you have the same or your touchpad works fine? I installed drivers but see no settings for turning this function on. In fact I believe it must be turned on already.
Help.
2. Brightness. I knew that this laptop does NOT have automatic brightness control but I thought that I will be able to control it myself very good. Unfortunately the steps are too big. At one moment it is too bright for my eyes and next step makes it like 2 times dimmer. Anybody. -
I need some help guys, I've screwed up my fan somehow… I opened the laptop to clean it out (did it 2 times before without a problem), I detached the fan as well and when I put it back and started the machine up the fan started behaving strangely. It goes at full speed for a few seconds, then stops for 1-2 seconds and starts again at max speed again. It doesn't react to the manual turbofan button.
I've taken it apart again and checked if the cable was plugged in right, but it was, so I have absolutely no clue what could have caused this and how to fix it :/ .
Here's a video of what it does:
-------------------------------
EDIT: Thank god, I've managed to fix it. I'm not sure if taking the fan out and putting it back a few times, resetting the EC or the random Windows Update I got did it, but these got me extremely worried, guess I was lucky... (also I'm not touching anything on the inside of this laptop for a while now ^^) :

I really need som help with this... Sorry if this question has been asked here before. I just got my brand new ge60 and realized that the LED's for the ejectbutton and screen-off button are not ligthing up as the wifi/fan/turbo and power.
Is this normal? Should they not light up with the same blue led as the other ones? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I don't think those should light up permanently, only when pressed zaranoff.Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -

The reason I got worried in the first place was because on msi's webpage they show the ge60 with all the blue led's turned on. -
Is there any way to check if the gpu boost is working/enable gpu boost? The constant core clock of 835 is making me paranoid...
-
So I bought a msi ge 70 but it had win8 on it. I replaced the hard drive with a new regular ssd and I installed win7 pro fresh on that. Anyhow, my main issue is that wifi is not working, can it be fixed or do I have to buy a wifi dongle? Intel proset won't let me turn the radio on, can't be done with windows either, any tips?

set high performance power plan
-
Power plan doesn't change anything, tried the gaming power plan from SCM too.
-
What driver version do you have? Reinstall the driver using clean install option check box.
v. 306 lets you to overclock GPU to the clocks you want.
Later versions let only +135Mhz for a core but should help you with that problem.
If you decide to overclock using v.306 you need to download nvinspector. I will give you txt file which you should rename in bat file and put in the folder of NVinspector. -
Alright people, now I need a help!
I need someone to call to MSI and ask them to send written approval that breaking warranty sticker does not break the warranty. I need their email answer to show here in Ukraine because Service center doesn't want to do anything because of broken sticker and only agreed to if I show them MSI email.
So I want you to get their written approval. Also you may describe situation that laptop was bought in the USA but now is with buyer in the Ukraine. It has bad keyboard (misses what I type). If they approve that 1 year after manufacture worldwide warranty is still valid then they should sent a confirmation email to [email protected] Also please ask them if I need documents to show in the service center or service tag on the laptop should be fine.
I sent email quote but those MSI reps haven't answered me yet.
Good day!
I have a notebook MSI GE70 0NC which was bought in the United States.
And I have real problem with the keyboard which sometimes ignores my pressing. The worst thing is with "?/" button which gives me about 40% successful chance. As I heard it is famous problem with earlier revisions of keyboards for this laptop. At this moment I am in Ukraine with the laptop and here is my another problem:
I called MSI USA once before about the warranty sticker and was told that I can upgrade the laptop (RAM) but unless I am not registered my warranty time will count from the time of manufacture instead of the time of sell. Now I need written prove of it from MSI USA so I could get a warranty service in Ukraine because authorized Service Center there claims that I have NO Warranty cover AT ALL because of broken sticker. For the G-series laptop for over 1000$ with 2-year warranty and 1 year of Worldwide warranty I have to have really hard time typing on faulty keyboard.
They told that the only way to get warranty repair from them I have to give them email quote with MSI USA where you approve that broken sticker does not means broken warranty.
I really hope that my problem will be solved. Please help me.
Thank You.
Also please ask them if I can bring the laptop without battery to the Service center. If they say YES, then please ask them to write this in the email too.
I have only less than 2 monthes of warranty so PLEASE, I need your help guys. It is not so hard after all! -
I'm not sure anyone else would get a reply if you didn't.. Based on my experience with the UK customer support they can take several days to respond though, so I don't think they'll just ignore your mail. Also, when I called the service center in Hungary (where I bought my GE60) they said that I can brake the sticker, I just had to tell them what I wanted to do 'inside'
.
-
Well I just sent an email. But If someone would make a phone call and ask to reply via email...
Here MSI.ua sent me to get all answers from authorized Service Center.
It took 5 days already after I sent email to MSI.usa. -

Can anyone tell me what the 'optimal' settings are in the Ge-Force experience, for Crysis 3. I have the 650m.
For some reason the program is not picking up the game. -
