Hi everyone,
Just ordered a GE60 0ND with 660M and 3630QM.
I will want to downgrade to Windows 7 pro (from windows 8 pro) as soon as it arrives, but I can't find Windows 7 drivers on the MSI site, it seems to just list Win8 stuff.
Can anyone help me out figuring out what I need to download and install? Also, can anyone confirm that absolutely everything (including optimus) fully works with Win 7 before I even start.
thanks -
@Boris, http://msi.com/product/nb/GE60-0Nd.html#/?div=Driver&os=Win7 64
@valhalla, install v.306 drivers, use clean install checkbox. Download nvinspector and create txt file in the folder. Paste this:
nvidiaInspector.exe -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,135 -setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,500 -setpowertarget:0,111 -setVoltageOffset:0,0,0 -setGpuClock:0,2, 1111 -setMemoryClock:0,2, 2500 -forcepstate:0,1
and then save it and rename *.txt into *.bat file
Double click and test for stability in games at first and then using FurMark stress test. Lower clocks if you want.
After this launch nvinspector, overclock section>create shortcut>right click on it and watch properties. Paste that code instead of the one in shorcut and you can put it in Startup folder.
Default code is nvidiaInspector.exe -setVoltageOffset:0,0,0 -setGpuClock:0,2,750 -setMemoryClock:0,2,2000 -forcepstate:0,16
People, I need someone to call MSI USA, ask them about breaking warranty sticker and ask them to write an email that breaking sticker doesn't mean breaking warranty to [email protected]
Smth like: regarding your question about warranty status after damaging warranty sticker we confirm that it doesn't stop the warranty. It only does... etc.
I really need this confirmation email! -

Hey there,
I got the MSI GE70-0ND andan issue has occured with it. Some of the seven "blue buttons" do not work anymore.
The ejectbutton, turn off screen, enable/disable WiFi-button, Turbo-button and the P1-button are the buttons that don't work.
The two buttons that do work is the on/off-button and the maxfanspeed-button.
Is there anyway of fixing the others? -
@merg, try to reinstall MSI software. Don't recall how is it called for Windows 8
-
Anyone got their THX TruStudio PRO sticker removed from the laptop? It seems really hard to remove. I don't know if I should keep trying or I'll end up scratching the laptop.

By the way it means it when it wants you to check which version of SCM you need for windows 8.
The wrong version can cause all sorts of strange issues. -
I have ge70 with the full hd panel. After spilling tea on it there's problems, so I want to replace it. However the resolution is too big for me and I'd rather have the 1600 x 900 panel. Can I use the panel from the other ge70 version? Can I use a cheaper one, like LTN173KT01 (Samsung) ?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes you can use a standard 17.3" 1600x900 40 Pin LVDS panel.

Thank you.

Lol, thanks. Just be careful with the bezel and take your time.

Is there a specific way to get NVidia Optimus working? Nothing will pick up the NVidia GTX 660M after a clean install of Windows 8 Pro. Tried various orders of install, the stock drivers installed automatically from the DVD, but NVidia Optimus just won't work without using the stock install (which I don't want to use, due to the bloatware and the stupid 21GB WinSxS folder).
MSI GE60 0ND, Windows 8 Pro, GTX 660M -
On another note, does anyone know where I could get hold of a custom VBIOS to overclock the GTX 660M? -
-
update driver to the latest with clean install checkbox

You could try a modified inf from laptopvideo2go maybe..
-
I'll give it a go once I get it back from the repair shop (Mine had scuffs all over the bezel, and a clicking noise from the hard drive)
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well make sure the chips really are behaving themselves on the stock drivers.
-
Does anyone know where I could get hold of a custom VBIOS to overclock the GTX 660M? Has anyone delved into the realm of overclocking there GE60/70 to get the most out of there GTX 660M?
I've read on a number of forums mentioning that it runs relatively well at decent temperatures on higher clocks but we are held back by the stock limiter. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The vbios is integrated into the system bios so you would have to unpack it from there to modify it.

So I have a brand new Ge70 with windows 8, but it seems like it sometimes takes too long to update windows and even to configure windows sometimes when turning it on... Is it normal? Or is there a problem?

Thanks Prema! I had a feeling that it will take much longer (you know what I mean
).
Flashed BIOS for GE70 and all is GREAT!

It's set on every boot without the need for any software and may have extended limits or voltage, it should say where he linked.

The difference is... that you could NOT overclock over 135Mhz for core with Afterburner
Oops, being ninja'd -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
These chips do tend to have a bit more room than that at stock voltage, so it's nice to be able to actually see where your chip can get.

What's the best place to get nvinspector btw? There are a lot of them floating around.

Hello, I just wasted a few hours poking around in this thread, I was looking for the reason why the 650m wouldn't switch off to the HD4000. I found out, that the Optimus thought, that it would be needed to use it for running Steam, so I just specified the GPU to run Steam to the internal one.
I just thought I would write a quick post here for anybody, who might have the same problem. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes I have seen it do that too, along with chrome and the SCM software, so certainly worth going through and checking.

I searched the topic, but I couldn't find anyone with the same issues as I am having.
I bought my GE70 about 6 months ago and the fan started making a very loud noise, as if the blades are hitting something. I asked MSI for permission to open the laptop and I couldn't find anything that would make the fan go crazy like that. Now I would have to send my laptop to the warranty service, which would be expensive (say $50) and would cost me a month or more without my laptop,
Did anyone have problems like this? If yes, how did you solve? Does anyone know where I can buy a new fan? Because I am considering buying a new one instead of sending to warranty.
EDIT: I'm guessing the problem is the same as this guy's, except now it is much louder:

Sorry for the late reply, work don't let me many time.
@James, your tip about disabling safe boot was the thing. I googled a tutorial, later i found how to put legacy bios, and that was all!
Just one thing fails, and it's the WIFI. I've downloaded all the .net 4 and 4.5 fixes and installed the last version of S-bar, but i can't turn it on...
Can you help me guys?
Is there any windows update that I should download? I have only 3g connection and as i haven't wifi, i can't download the rest of updates yet... but everything about .net is done -
Hi all, I've recently purchased the "MSI GE60-403AU" which comes with the mSata SSD 64GB. It had a pre-installed Windows 8 and I decided to install Windows 7.
Once I booted up with a partitioning tool, I got rid of all partitions in SSD and HDD, (initially did that so when installing Windows 7 it doesn't create that 100mb partition when formatting partitions via Windows 7 installation).
So when I booted up and installed Windows 7. I opened up "Disk Management" and I realised that my HDD didn't have a path! So I gave it one, and tried to format it however it wouldn't because it's seemed as a "System Partition" a part of Windows.
No matter what I do (use Gparted, get rid of the boot from HDD and enable boot for SSD and activate partition.) I still can't get rid of the HDD's System Partition and because of this it wont allow me to format that disk...
I've re-installed tried everything (4 different partitioning tools, Windows 7 recovery and used CMD Diskpart/BOOTREC when i use fixboot i get "element not found")
I'm just totally clueless now. Is this because the MSata can't hold the System partition or is it because of that specific MSATA-SSD i have which came with the laptop?
It's always pushing the HDD to contain some sort of additional partition which doesn't allow me to format it. Any hints/tips would help and really appreciate it thank you.
EDIT: Even though I formatted and deleted and created a new partition. After I installed Windows 7, on the "Disk Management" I see HDD's status which is "Healthy(System, Active, Primary Partition)" however, it's only meant to be "Primary Partition".. not System.
EDIT2: Simply I get "Windows cannot format the system partition on this disk" on Disk management. When attempted to format.
Regards, -
@Cerot, if you flash the Firmware for windows 7 your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth will be on/off anytime. But brightness combination will not work.
Try to turn it on without flashin right now with S-Bar for example. Most people say that after downgrading OS they can not turn Wi-FI OFF. Not the opposite.
@Jrobet, System partition is the 100MB one. Drive C is primary.
Take away HDD from computer and leave just SSD while attempting to install OS.
Don't forget to use safeboot and usual BIOS instead of UEFI. -
@James D I've fixed it. But i've did everything manually the DISPART command prompt doesn't actually initialise the C: primary drive. For me or the MSI GE60 0ND users. The System Partition isn't 100MB, in fact it's not a separate partition its a bind with the D:\ drive (HDD). like this:
I've used a linux distro 3rd party partitioning tool like "Gparted and MiniTool Partition Wizard 7" I've inactivated and activated C:\ i've unchecked the boot flag on D:\ and i've used the W7-recovery-CD and manually created a system partition and copied booting files to C:\ using the following commands:
hence, i didn't need to do anything physically (i just purchased the laptop didn't want to void the warranty by screwing through the warranty sticker)
Edit: and yes I used Legacy instead of UEFI. -
Installed unlocked CPU. Created unlocked BIOS, flashed it and now can set multis in the BIOS. Notebook cooler is musthave for overclocking on our single heat pipe laptops.
-
Does anyone know how I can disable overcharging in "MSI GE60", I think it's still charging because it says "Fully charged 100%" and has a plug icon and it changes once I remove the charge adapter. Are there any mods or software that can stop charging once it hits like 95%? I know some laptops do that these days.
-
Finally the wifi issue is gone, the physical buttons doesn't work but the virtual sbar ones yes.
Thanks for all the help james (I didn't need to flash firmware, just update windows)
