Which unit do you have? And what's the current version of BIOS?

Try another speaker to verify. -
Am I giving you the right information? -
Yes, you are.
Find a USB flash drive.
Download official BIOS.
Format flash drive with HP USB Format Tool is FAT system, check box create bootable drive using files and select unziped folder
Copy all BIOS files to a flash drive, reboot, press F11 to Enter Boot menu and select your flash drive. Make sure battery is IN laptop and it is plugged in AC.
Type "flash.bat" without quotes and then press Enter. Wait and power off when it finishes.
After that I would recommend to flash this modified BIOS which allows to overclock GPU, RAM and other stuff.
After flashing BIOS you also need to flash firmware. I guess all is the same, just delete bios files and write firmware files. But I am not 100% sure. -
I tried both jacks and a couple of different headphones and speakers. Still nothing. -

Hello everybody! Been following the thread for a long time, resolving many issues with fixes found here. Thank you for that!
I have a few questions. My model is ge70 0nc and I want to buy a monitor and connect it to my laptop.
I have a 27" 2560x1440 and a 39" 3840x2160 in mind. They are both very cheap considering and i think you know what models i mean.Yamakasi and Seiki.
Thing is, I have no idea if i will be able to connect any of these 2 to my laptop, through my HDMI output. Will it work? The 650, maxes out at 1920x1080 or I'll be able to manually input a custom resolution in the nvidia control panel? Most of all, is the hdmi port connected to the 650m or the integrated intel hd4000? If it isnt, will the hdmi be able to output these resolutions? I found out that its a 1.4 version so thats good, i think.
Please help me with some answers!
Thanks! -

See below FAQ from MSI about HDMI resolutions.
MSI USA -
I dont have the monitors yet, thats why I'm asking here.
I know that table and it says maximum resolution of 1920x1080. I think they are on the safe side and there have been numerous people who have put a custom profile resolution and got their 2560x1440 monitors to work.
I'm wondering if i can do the same, but on this particular laptop model, and onldy with hdmi at my disposal. I guess i can buy an adapter or something but if i dont need it i wont.
Anyone else tried what im trying to achive, or seen a topic somwehere? -
It is such a BIG shame that 1920x1080 is the max! Even 10times weaker laptop with pure Nvidia GPU can work with bigger external monitor than this shmurken Optimus peace of garbage!
The problem is that all monitor connectors go to Intel HD gpu and seems that it doesn't support bigger res. Nvidia does for sure.
Optimus is such a cr@p if you can't disable it!
1. Lower performance of nvidia gpu.
2. Inability to overclock monitor to higher herz..
3. And now looks like low external monitor resolution.
Someone, force MSI to create newer bios where w could disable optimus!

Well then I'll just buy a regular full hd 27" led monitor and still dream of 2560x1440 or 4k resolutions...

Thanks guys! -

Disabling Intel HD Graphics is only going to disable your entire display.
Besides, it is the trend now for every player.
There's no performance involved when your laptop is on battery mode anyway since the battery pack is like 40-50W and the AC adapter these gaming NBs use nowadays are between 150-220W.
See below.

I just hoped that MSI will find the way to deal with it with just a simple BIOS update. At least Sandy-Bridge laptops offered this opportunity. -

Just got the MSi ge70 0ND GTX660m i7 8gb ram. And it has windows 8 in it which i hate. 8 has too much problems (wifi, games, crash, etc.). Is it safe to install windows 7 ultimate on this laptop? Or do i have to stay on 8 ? I heard some new laptops are not able to UPGRADE to windows 7...
-
If you decide to install Windows 7 then disable Secure Boot in BIOS and set BIOS mode to legacy before proceeding.

Wait for 2 months or when MSI releases official drivers for 8.1 if earlier.

EDIT: Nevermind just saw that the 8.1 upgrade for my laptop will be released soon. Guess i have to wait... -
Hi, I am having some problem with nVidia Optimus. I am using ACD Pro 7.0 and the laptop uses dedicated graphics (765M) to run. I want it to run using integrated grahics (HD4600). Adjusting graphic options in menu (force it to run on integrated) does not seem to help.
Appreciated any helps & suggestions. Thanks! -

You could try changing it globally to run on the dedicated. Hopefully it is not one of those CAD programs that still has issues with optimus.

Increasing platter density improves speed just as well as RPM does.
Looks like platter density is improving by 33%, same ratio as going from 5400 to 7200.
So this gen 5400 should be about as fast as old gen 7200.
They say it's now shipping but I don't see it anywhere. -
1) Unidentified device in Device Manager which is Radio-Module bluetooth. Perhaps you can updadte driver for it if you save old Windows folder somewhere before formatting drive C. Not a problem in real life.
2) Wi-Fi button's LED on panel will turn on and turn off when you click it however in fact neither Wi-FI nor Bluetooth (using S-bar) will not be switched on/off. Only with Fn combinations.
You can fix #2 flashing Firmware for Windows 7 however in that case Fn+Brightness combinations may not work.
I am 99% sure that you can fix all that by flashing BIOS for Windows 7. MSI warns that it is risky. I know people who successfully did that but you loose Windows 8 key in this case which is written in BIOS' SLIC. If you will try it anyway then I suggest you to get that key from BIOS' SLIC before flashing BIOS. Perhaps this tool will help. Info how to use it here
P.S. My laptop came preinstalled with Windows 7 OS and BIOS 10F.

Hi,
I just bought MSI GE60 0NC (GE60H-i765M2811B) with the GTX 765M and I decided to go back to Windows 7. I managed to format and install thanks to different forums but I am having real trouble with the drivers.
Most drivers from the MSI site are not installing (mainly "minimum requirements" error) and the Intel Driver Detect tool gets stuck at "analyzing" phase (tried both firefox and chrome) so right now I'm unable to use wifi, usb 3.0 ports and even my GPU (nvidia driver says that it requires intel drivers first). So where should I get the drivers from?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Thanks! -

Thanks for your help!
I got some things to work. However, some problems still persist.
1) I can't get Wifi connectivity. I tried installing (and uninstalling) various Intel drivers and software but none of them seem to work. In Device Manager, there's a yellow warning symbol next to network adapter and a missing PCI device under "other devices".
2) My HDD has disappeared! I installed OS on to SSD and now I cannot see the HDD in My Computer. Scanning for new hardware in Device Manager doesn't seem to help. It might have disappeared after Intel RST install but I'm not sure.
Any ideas? -
Update:
I got the wireless connection to work after uninstalling the driver and installing it again! (Intel wifi software still insists that the driver is missing...)
The HDD is apparent when booting, it is listed under "Physical Devices" with two other drives (seems to be the two halves of SSD) when the SSD is under "RAID volumes". I'm new to raiding, so it all makes very little sense to me.
Long story short, HDD is still missing from Windows. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
If it's in the bios screen then the drive is being detected. Have you gone into drive management and partitioned the drive? Does it appear there?
-
I guess HDD is in GPT and perhaps Win 7 does not recognize it.
You better ti use drivers only package for Wi-Fi from Intel version 16.1 -
Hi all, wanna ask about mSata Raid vs SSD. Currently i have Crucial M4 256GB installed and plan to get m500 240GB x2 for Raid. My questions are:
-Which one will be faster i.e. suitable for installing OS (single M4 vs Raid M500 mSata or even in the future I replace the M4 with faster SSD such as Samsung 840 EVO)
-How to set up Raid? Apart from install new BIOS for Raid and change configuration in BIOS menu.
Thanks!
Appreciated all answers -
Yes, that fixed it! I found my HDD under Disk Management. It was there as "unallocated space". I formatted it and assigned a letter and a name. Now the drive appears as it should.
Thank you all very much! I hope these posts help some other people too.
One annoyance remains. While typing, sometimes the typing cursor disappears or appears elsewhere in the text. I'm assuming it's a touchpad issue and it registers clicks even if I don't touch it. Anybody had the same problem? The Fn+F3 combination shows the "touchpad disabled" icon but it's not really doing anything. Then again I haven't downloaded touchpad drivers as I'm afraid it's useless bloatware. Is it?
Thanks again.Kevin@GenTechPC likes this. -

The touchpad drivers will help
Make sure you have the hotkey manager too since that will let you disable the touchpad if installing the touchpad drivers does not help.

Hello fellow Msi Laptop owners. I own a ge60 and recently installed w8 8.1, well turns out it has some issues. What i could not fix is that, it seems there is low sound issue with the new system. I uninstalled realtek drivers, and reinstalled the latest from realtek web site. But it still is the same. It has something to do with THX? Thanks, any help would be appreciated ..

Try using K-Lite Mega and then use Media Player Classic, go to MPC's options -> Internal Filters -> Audio Switcher, and then check "Normalize".
Play audio again and see if this helps. -
