    Hi everyone,

I purchased a GE70 last week (came with Win 7 Pro) and installed Windows 8 on it since I had it lying around. I bought the one with Win 7 because it had a larger hard drive for the same price, in case you're wondering.

The one thing so far I can't get to work is scrolling on the touchpad. I installed the software (ELAN Smartpad) and the scrolling feature is turned on, but it will not scroll horizontally or vertically. All of the other features seem to work (programmed 2 finger push, 3 finger push, etc.).

I use scrolling a lot and this is really bugging the crap out of me! I wish I'd have checked to see if it worked when I first got it and it had Win 7 on it, but I did not.

The driver appears to be pretty current: ELAN 8/19/2013 11.13.4.4

Now that I looked again, it doesn't seem like I can use any of the multi-touch gestures even though they are turned on. (zoom, 3 finger swipe, rotate, or scroll).

    Any ideas?

    PDG

just swapped my i5 for an i7 3720QM yesterday in my GE60. The swap was REALLY easy and i did it in less than 15 mins. After putting it in everything worked 100% fine after the first boot up.

Defently something i´d recommend to other GE60 users who have an i5 and like more processing power!

Have you already tried to overclock it up to +4 bins? If i found that deal earlier than you I would definitely try to swap mine for his + some money :) GE series can't handle max OCing which can give 3920XM.

The 37xx series are partially unlocked so you up the multipliers for 1-4 cores up 400mhz. It should be in the unlocked bios.

Laptopmag says both these laptops run hot, and there is only a 30 minute difference battery life between both.

If you are buying from Xotic, get the IC thermal compound service, will make both of these laptops a lot better.

We need more details to assist. Does it just power off and you have to press the power button to turn it back on? When you turn it on does it say locked next to the picture of the user, like you woke it up from sleep?

My new GE60 wouldn't shutoff while playing but it was set to hibernate after 15 minutes of inactivity from the factory. Once I disabled that it has worked fine ever since.

    Cheers,

Update the BIOS and EC firmware on it first. They can be updated in Windows mode.
    GE70 2OE download page
Make sure the AC is always plugged in during these tests.

If BIOS and EC does not resolve the issue, then try the following.
Use Prime95 to stress CPU/RAM first.
Then use Furmark to stress GPU.
Make sure the AC is always plugged in during these tests.

If the shutdown was caused by overheating then you will be able to see that from any of the tests above then you should try to apply some IC diamond to help to transfer the heat off the components better. It is reported to reduce temperature by 5-10 Celsius.

Also a good idea to monitor temperatures with GPU-Z and core temp to see what they are running at.

Hi all, I am trying to do thermal paste on CPU and GPU but encounter screw problem. As you can see in the 1st pic, the screw (number 2) is not in a perfect shape. I can't unscrew it ): Other screws except the #2 are fine though (see 2nd pic)
    Anyway to fix this?

    Thanks and appreciated all comments.

    Oh no, it's stripped.
Try using a sharper/bigger Philips screwdriver and try to drive it out and do not use it again.

There are more extreme measures like using a sharp (and disposable) knife or other blade to cut in a flat head style groove, it's risky due to the metal dust and putting a sharp blade inside the machine but can work in a pinch, you will want to get a replacement screw of course.

If you have a friendly local tool shop they will likely let you try a couple of a different sets if you don't have any or if yours don't grip the small screw well.

Since I bought this laptop (GE70 0ND) I've had problems with playing videos. In scenes with lateral transitions can be observed small jumps in the picture.

I tried re-install the SO, now I have installed Windows 8.1 and all updated drivers and still have the same problem, also un updating the bios and firmware drivers.

I have also tried several players, VLC, Windows Media Player, MediaPlayer, PowerDVD ... without success.

These same videos are tested on another PC and play without any jump in the picture.

    Any solution?

Sorry for my poor english. Thanks.

Uninstall all players and codeсs. What codeсs have you used? I suggest to install KMPlayer and LAV codeсs. KMPlayer is pretty good player and can work without any 3-rd party codeс at all but using LAV you can select GPU to decode Intel HD or Nvidia CUDA. The only problem with KMP is it has huge settings count and that you need to go to the setting and set proper doubleclick action to the video because default action is play/pause while should be toggle Fullscrene on/off.

This is torrent file on a KMP pack with built-in LAV. While installing set Nvidia CUDA in properties.

I've tried installing KMP with LIV Filter and have noticed some improvement, but still not completely smooth playback. I have seen also have to go into the nvidia control panel and select the nvidia card for KMP, but only lets me select the Integrated ... How can I change? I have installed the latest drivers from both the HD4000 and the intel nvidia gt660m.

Greetings and thank you very much.

What James is saying that if the Turbo light changes to blue, then it's using IGD (INTEL), but if it's red, then it's using PEG (NVIDIA).

Kevin was almost correct. On this model blue means nvidia and Off means intel.

Then i suggest to visit svp page smooth video project. Download full pack, set up players as svp page says and enjoy unbeatable smoothness.

    Hellow everybody.

    Just bought a MSI GE60 20E with an I5 4200m and the gtx 765m.

I have installed Msi website drivers.

After that, just run 3dmark11 and my score is low.

I have 3700 points In GPU and another 3300 points un CPU. Besides, 3dmark11 says that I have no turboboost. Why? Maybe neither the gpu nor the CPU are boosting...

    Hey,
I have some issues with fps laggs on games like Loadout and League of Legends and I cant find the problem. Games always start with around 150FPS and drop during the game continiously until they reach something under 30. I tried low and high quality setting in both games but it doesnt change really much. Even with extremly low graphics settings I get laggs. My GE60 has a I7-3630QM CPU, the Geforce GTX 660M with the newest driver (v334.89) and 8GB RAM on a Windows 7-64bit system. I'm using an additional screen for browsing while I'm playing.

The benchmarking score on 3DMark11 is 2569.

    Thats what I checked:
    - High performance power setting profile is activated on laptop settings and graphics settings
    - Nvidia GPU is used
    - Vertical Syn is deactivated
    - Rolled back my driver to an older version
    - Installed MSI Afterburner to check different values of my GPU (while playing Loadout) and heres what I got:
GPU-Temperatur: not playing 37-38° and while playing max. of 60°
GPU-Usage: not playing 0%, while being in the menu of Loadout it gets to 100% (totally weird) and ingame between 40% and 65%
    - Limited FPS ingame to 60 to decrease rendering (read that in a forum)
    - Deleted and reinstalled my whole system

Since I have no clue what all that means I would really appreciate some help to get my laptop running like its supposed to.

If thats not enough info to help, just let me know what you need and I will add it!

    Regards,
    Syk.

Note: The Turbo-Button is always blue!
Note2: I added the cpuz pictures of my system!
    cpuzoverview.jpg

Note3: Was just trying to check my RAM for errors with MemTest4 and it told me that my windows can only allocate 2048 RAM to a single programm. Maybe thats whats causing the problem? How can I change that?

Its Windows 7 64bit. But I jut realised that the CPU temperatur is way to high and now I to find out whats causing the problem.

Edit: Ok, I renewed the thermal paste and cleaned the inside of my laptop. The GPU temperature went even further down (30° IDLE now) and the CPU temperatur didnt change at all. So there probably somethings broken and I will send it in. Does somebody has experience with warranty cases at MSI? Because it says that you cant open the laptop or your warranty will instantly expire. Is that true?

    Would appreciate some help here.

    Thx in advance.

Hi, I have the GE 60 0ND model with the GTX 660m g-card in it. I finnaly got around to buying an msata ssd and hoped to take advantage of the intel SRT disc catching acceleration. I since have learned that the HM76 chipset suposedly doesn't support raid despite what pg 3 of the intel brag sheet says. I know pg 2 says optional but is that unlockable on my mb? I can't find any bios updates or drivers that involve raid. There aren't posts that i could find that expounded further.

    http://www.intel.com/content/dam/ww.../product-briefs/hm76-mobile-chipset-brief.pdf

My question is anyone has learned if raid has been made possible or if not. I was looking forward to the performance boost across the system. If i can't enable raid for the disc catching then I will have to transfer the larger games to the ssd for more localized performance boosts.

    Anyhow, any advice is apreciated.

Yes, but only if they can deduce you opened it. If there was a "void if removed" sticker you had to remove and were unable to keep it intact and reapply it, then they will probably have some qualms with servicing it.

Hi all! First post here. I'm hoping you can help me. I have this GE70.. Newegg.com - MSI GE Series GE70 2OE-017US Notebook Intel Core i7 4700MQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 750GB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M 17.3" Win 8 Multi-language

I just bought this SSD http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009NB8WRU/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I thought I could move the current HDD over and install the SDD as the boot drive. But I read that you cannot do that. I would either need to leave the HDD out or get an Msata sdd instead. Is this true?

I just pulled out a quick google search for GE70 Replacement keyboard and had quite a few results pop up. Make sure to note whether the version you have is screw down or lock in type and then get the corresponding replacement.

Thank you very much. I live in Europe. so it seems ebay is my only option, even though I don't like using that... If someone knows about any other options for me, I'd appreciate very much if you send me pm. My GE70 have the "lock in" version (no screws) of the keyboard.

Newby looking for a bit of help/opinion...

I'm a GE70 0ND-033US owner looking to upgrade to 16gb of ram, are there any dos/don'ts or strong recommendations for specific brands or product lines to consider or stay away from? I enjoy the Lounge postings very much and thanks for taking a moment to consider my request for feedback.

Just got a GE70 and the internet is EXTREMELY slow. Web pages take forever to load and I can't download anything. There's nothing wrong with my connection because it's fine on all of my other computers/devices. Help anyone, please? :/ I'm really hoping there's a solution for this because I don't want to have to return my computer.

Try to connect using cable. Does it look the same?
Try another browser like Mozilla Firefox.

Hi! I have an MSI ge60 ond i7. It's about 1 year and 3 months old (pretty young) I use it about 8 hrs a day avg. Last week the battery led started blinking orange, it charges only until about 95% last week, now it's down to 85%. The blinking light stops once I unplug the AC adaptor and I can see that the battery runtime is about 1hr (normal). I am pretty sure that the battery isn't dead yet, should I worry about it dying soon? I'm residing in the Philippines and the average temperature would be 45-55deg and 70-85 when playing heavy. Thank you for any help.
