Is there a capacity limit on super RAID for MSI GE60 2OE? For example, maximum capacity is 256GB(2x128GB) or 512GB(2x256GB). Or there is no limit? I am planning to either buy 2xCrucial M500 240GB or 2x480GB Model. Thanks!
-
I just run normal RAID0 (2x mSata Plextor 128G) and would not think there would be a limit with that.
IDK what SuperRAID is exactly. From what I've seen maybe it uses rapid start, not really suitable for dual boot which I have. -

There is no limit, as the drives get bigger and bigger you'll still be able to put them in RAID 0, or SuperRAID as MSI calls it.

Thanks a lot!
PS: Can you PM me the MSI Bios unlocker please? -
Hi,
Simple question.
Should i get a msata ssd or a sata3 ssd ?
i have already got rid of Win 8 and am on Win 7 with everything working as it should and i dont really need the DVD drive but unsure which ssd is better.
any help appreciated.Thanks
-
The mSATA drives are supposed to be a bit slower but I prefer not removing the ODD (even though I almost never use it)
Cheers, -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Yup, mSATA SSD doesn't have the powerful ones like Samsung 840 Pro or similar others. -
So I used the MSI BIOS Unlocker, didnt change anything besides using "Legacy" instead of UEFI.
Then I installed Windows 8 fine, and updated the BIOS (I had the version 511) to w8_E16GCIMS.517 on windows, and after the reboot, the laptop is bricked.
Any way to solve this? -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Did you run FLASHWIN to update the BIOS? Because if you had not but had done it manually then it could brick the BIOS.
Unfortunately, it cannot be recovered since there isn't any kind of response from the system. -
What I did to flash it was to type this in a console:
afuwinx64 E16GCIMS.517 -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Yes, this is what I was afraid to see.
Please contact MSI to send the system in for RMA service. -
Does the warranty cover failed BIOS flashing? I contacted them, they still havent replied yet
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Yes, warranty covers bricked BIOS. -
new to this forum, but I was wondering if anyone knows what batteries are compatible with the GE60. I've tried googling it but nothing comes up. Am I stuck with the 6-cell that it has or can I upgrade to a larger battery?
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Welcome to NBR!
I've never seen an alternate OEM battery made by MSI. -
well that's really unfortunate because this battery is awful. Oh well, thank you for answering!
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
How bad is it? Can you share with us? -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
You can change some Windows settings to get better battery life. Putting the power options to Power Saver, dimming the screen, turning off the backlit keyboard are just a few examples. On light use you should be getting at least 2.5-3hrs -
Which power plan are you using? I'm using Balanced when on battery power, but I tweaked the settings so that the Maximum Processor State is 60. I get roughly 4-4.5 hours depending on what I'm doing.

Hi, just recieved an Msi GE60 with the i5 4200m and gtx 765m config.
After installing Msi webpage's drivers, it is performing a bit slower than the average.
About 3700 GPU points un 3dmark11. It should reach 4200 more or less, should it?
And, besides the score of the CPU is very low too, with 3300 points.
It says too that my CPU hasn't turboboost, staying with a máx clock of 2.5 GHz.
What could be happening? Maybe it isnt auto overclocking the gpu? Nor the CPU... I'm in Windows 8.1 Pro and Legacy mode bios.

Just run 3dmark11 again after changing BIOS to UEFI, and scored 4000 GPU points, which is slightly better tan I scored in legacy.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i5-4200M,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16GC
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_LbI0TyNBqYRElTRTVtaFBsNEE/edit
But as you can see, my processor still doesn't Turboboost, even if it reaches full charge ratios. What could be the problem?
And, why a lot of you are scoring far better GPU scores? About 4300 points without doing any overclock.
Thanks in advance. -
Hey,
I've recently bought myself a GE60 2OE. I spent a while updating it to Windows 8.1 and obtained all of the recommended drivers/BIOS/firmware from here, as is often suggested in this thread.
Unfortunately, while the laptop is working almost perfectly - and can successfully run games to a high level - I am frequently experiencing BSoDs when plugging the AC power supply back in (after a period of running off the battery) or when turning on the laptop with with the AC adapter disconnected.
The BSoD error is in the form of 'IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL' and I've successfully narrowed down the culprit to be the nVidia 'nvlddmkm.sys' driver. When plugging the AC power supply back in, the laptop's power indicator turns orange to indicate the use of the GTX 765M, and I can only assume it is this use that results in the aforementioned driver operating outside of its legal memory.
I've attempted numerous clean installations of the same 327.62 nVidia driver, and have made use of Driver Sweeper to remove all remnants of previous driver versions. An attempt to update to the most recent nVidia driver available on their website resulted in freezing and multiple crashes before the playing of games could even be attempted, so this was uninstalled in safe mode.
I am currently running the most recent BIOS (v. 517) and firmware (v. 507) that I could find for use with Windows 8.1, and reinstalling these has had no effect on my BSoD issues.
Could there be a hardware fault within my GPU (despite playing games well), or perhaps an issue with the batter/power supply?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I'd be happy to answer any further questions.
Edit: I should also mention that the BSoD does not always occur when performing the actions listed above. For example, at the moment I am analysing the performance of the GPU when the power source is switched (in the program GPU-Z) and no BSoDs have been experienced as of yet. Strangely, the orange light indicating the use of GPU is active, but GPU-Z suggests no activity. -

It's driver issue. You can update to the latest graphics drivers for Intel and Nvidia.
Intel Driver 3345
Nvidia driver 332.21
And then the rest of Win8.1 drivers from MSI's website.
Download section -
Hey,
Thanks for your help.
I've installed the drivers you suggested and sure enough, my laptop hasn't experienced a BSoD yet. However, System Interrupts are now occupying a large percentage (10-20%) of my CPU, resulting in substantial lag. I already have the MSI's suggested Win8.1 drivers installed, but is it now a matter of the order in which I install them? i.e. Will installing them again improve things?
Furthermore, do you suggest reinstalling the BIOS or firmware?
Thanks again. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Did you have the same symptom before the driver update?
There's no need to reflash BIOS/EC or to reinstall drivers as no improvement may be gained. -
Hey,
It was working well beforehand (provided the AC power supply remained connected), there was no lag and games (PlanetSide 2 on ultra) ran fine.
I just tried to boot my laptop using only the battery and experienced another BSoD - this time with the 'DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION' tag.
Edit: Currently it's running fine if I keep the AC adapter plugged in. -
Just fixed turboboost issue by disabling some stuff called INTEL steps in the bios. Now it is running at 3.1 GHz.
But, how do you score those strongs results in your gpu without overclocking?
It could be the S.O.? Maybe any leak of RAM? I have 4gb.
Thanks in advance.

I hate to say this, but perhaps it's better to do a clean install instead, because there can be complications when the OS was upgraded. -
Hey,
I was hoping that wouldn't be the case, as I've just spent a few days transferring files from my old laptop.
It's definitely still the 'nvlddmkm.sys' driver that is causing problems, as I've used LatencyMon to analyse the execution times of the different drivers. Considering I'm not performing any GPU related tasks, the fact that this driver is accumulating 123 seconds of execution time is very strange. Yet again, it's only when I remove and immediately re-insert the power cable that this overrun occurs.
I'm considering a clean install, but I suppose I'll save that for when I've run out of ideas.
Thanks again. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
You can use "Windows Easy Transfer" to back up the settings and documents first, then do a clean install and then use the utility again to restore. -
I found this article on anandtech discussing upcoming MSI laptops.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7623/msi-updated-notebooks-at-ces-2014
The amount of content on the GE models is sadly very small.
Still I wanted to hear if anyone has speculation on what might be a feature of the upcoming model?
(perhaps mid 2004) -
Hey,
Does a clean install require the use of a Windows 8 disc? I was not provided one with the purchase of my laptop. -
Hi all
I want to set up RAID for msata. I already have 1 msata at hand and is ordering one. In a mean time, can i clean install Windows on 1st msata and then setup RAID with the other msata when it arrives? Or is it best to setup RAID then install Windows? Thanks! -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
You do need both drives installed before you can set up RAID since it splits data half and half on the other.
-
Yes, you can set the BIOS for RAID so it's RAID Ready with just the 1 mSata and install Windows. Then when you get the second mSata you can create a RAID0 array in Windows via the Intel RST application selecting to keep the data on your original mSata and Volume Migrate to RAID0, if that's what you want.

hello everyone! i'm new to this article.anyway i want to buy a gaming laptop and i faced this laptop ge60 2oe.i want you to help me please!i've heard the cooling system is not good and during gaming gets incredible hot.is that true????any idea about this laptob will help!
thank you very much!
i am waiting! -
I am using Cooler Master U2 cooling pad. The temperature while gaming is abt 88C on average. Max can hit 90C. I undervolt the CPU by 80 mV though
-
Thanks for all the replies!
-
thank you for replying
is it worth to buy?i'm a gamer and play a lot!! games like assasin creed iv or crysis , metro last light etc!! can it run them smoothly ?? -
Care to elaborate some more on each step?
Got latest drivers, after switching boot manager to w8's and changing to uefi mode bootloader works (but have borked locale support - it changes to english), but w7 hangs on "Starting windows" screen (same in safe mode - after loading kernel/drivers) <= and it hangs (not like w7 install dvd with nonworking graphics but responsible to key press like alt+f4 xD)
w8 noraid bios 511, booting in ahci mode -
Change back to CSM boot and run under admin cmd "bcdedit /set {current} novesa yes" then try UEFI again without CSM.
-
still the same, i get starting windows animation, after it stops it still works on hdd for a while and then regular hangup.
As for drivers i just updated everything:

please can somebody help me?? i am going to buy it next week!!helpppppppp -

GE series isn't running that hot, but compared to GT series which has better thermal solution than GE.
If you do decide to get GE and are still concerned of heat, then get laptop cooling pad from the link below.
Cooling Pads, Laptop Coolers, Laptop Cooler Stands - Newegg.com -
It's a gaming laptop, it gets hot, as does every other gaming laptop out there (save for maybe the Asus ROG series, but then you're paying extra for having to put up with extra fan noise). The GE60's fan will push out hot air, but overall the laptop will stay quite cool.

thank for replying
i'm thinling of gt70 2oc too.how about it too? -
gt70 2oc has better performance i presume.can you help me about it?
-
Any more ideas? ;]

Looks Okay from your screen shot. I don't know why it is hanging for you, maybe if you check the logs in Event Viewer it may give some clue.
-
Looks like it has a slightly better GPU, and is also bigger (17.3" screen) so it will run a little cooler, but really that's it.
