Its under the main hatch. Just swap the two little cards and make sure the two antennas are hooked up correctly (they snap in place).

Intel wireless cards should work in AMD systems.

Regarding the Factory HDD, I noticed it says Sata II, is the drive bay capable of Sata III?

I installed a Crucial M4 128GB SSD in place of the HDD, and made this my OS drive. I would assume that bay would be Sata III considering it is a Haswell compatible chipset. I was skeptical at first, but after performing a OS recovery to the drive, I was pleased to see it left the entire drive as the C drive instead of splitting it into a C and D drive as it does with the 750GB HDD. I then added a Crucial M500 240GB MSata to one of the MSata slots for installing my games too.

Factory HDD is SATA II, but all of the SATA channels are capable of SATA III bandwidth due to Haswell chipset having 6x SATA III (6.0Gbps) channels.

When a desktop shortcut is right clicked on, does the resulting window pop up immediately or is there a 1/2 second delay during which the rotating circle is seen?

    Thank you.

What mSATA SSD either in non RAID or in RAID0(2 identical SSDs) will operate the GE70 20E-071US without freezing up(no mouse & keyboard) on a quite regular basis? Does this PC become more free of freezing up with a certain type of memory?

    Thank you.

If anyone still reads this thread with this laptop. Are you all problem free when it comes to HDMI audio?
I replaced my old laptop with this MSI and now when I connect my TV with a HDMI cable I get no audio (picture is fine), under audio it says High Definition Audio Device (Not plugged in).
Under device manager there are no problems for audio devices.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the Intel HD4600 drivers as well as NVIDIA drivers. Also tried another HDMI cable and uninstalling the devices from device manager and letting windows re-install the audio driver.
I also have the Realtek driver installed and the intel chipset driver.

Anyone have any similar experiences or some suggestions?

Can you check your audio playback devices and see which item is set as default device while HDMI is connected?
Best if you can take a screenshot of your playback devices and show it to us.

I don't really know what to look for, the port looks fine, everything is straight and not bent. Would it make sense that the video from that port kept working fine and only audio is broken?

Oh, man. I read what the other guy did in that thread and though about what I had done. I had always had my monitor on duplicate so I thought I would try setting it on external display only or my display only and then switching back to duplicate. Well I plugged in the HDMI cable in, turned on the TV and before I could do anything I checked the playback devices and MY LG TV WAS THERE. haha!
I have no idea how this is possible, but the audio is working. The only thing I can think of that has changed between it not working and working is uninstalling the MSI SCM package for this laptop.

Anyway thanks for all the advice Kevin, the drivers that got me the Intel HD Audio in device manager was definitely a step towards the right answer.

Can the Ge70 20C be set to run the Nvidia GTX 765M all the time or for certain programs?

I read that the power button LED is orange if the Nvidia is being used.

    Thank you.

Yes, you can specify this in the nVidia Control Panel under Manage 3D Settings.
Do a custom profile and whitelist the particular software that you wish to add, and select the High Performance Graphics processor to go with it.

Typically no you cant upgrade GPU's. The different size of chassis can cause overheating issues with the 770M/780M. You normally find those in the GT series which are thicker computers which in turn can provide better cooling. There can also be a BIOS issues.

GPU is soldered directly on the motherboard so it's not upgradeable.

    Hello,

I have a A GE70 2OE for about half a year now. I'm currently having an issue with my GPU (Nvidia one), after playing FFXIV for a long time suddenly my game froze and I received an error that the drivers had crashed and had been restored. So I tried to launch the game again and it froze immediately, again with the same error message. Reinstalling the drivers didn't work, going to a previous version of the drivers didn't change anything either. After trying all this I decided I was going to reinstall windows the next day and see if that did anything. The next day however before reinstalling I decided to try one last time and for some reason it worked. Now we're a week later and yesterday I had the same problem, as of the time of writing this post it still doesn't work. The GPU crashes on games like FFXIV and BF4. However running the game on just the battery does not give me the drivers crashed error. As for my question, is this a problem of overheating or is my GPU broken? If it is overheating then why would it take more than a day to cool off again and is there anyway I can fasten this process?

    Greetings,
    Trouden

Try updating both Intel and Nvidia drivers, but if problem persists then the problem lies within the Nvidia GPU itself which you must contact MSI directly to get it resolved.

On modern machines preloaded with Windows 8, the WiFi/BT are both managed using a single Airplane mode button now.
Therefore, you can disable them at the same time by pressing FN + F9.

I'm sorry if I thread crap this. I've got the GE70 2PE version. comes with GTX860-880 series cards, windows 8.1, and a Haswell cpu. I can't seem to get games to default to the add-in card. The integrated gpu is always being used. This is the case even with the Geforce Experience profile you setup for specific games. MSI enabler is no where to be found. The standard bios you access with the delete key has no option to disable iGPU. Disabling and un-installing the iGPU in the display part of the device manager does nothing. After the required reboot, it installs itself and enables again. Help?

What about Nvidia Control Panel, you can select specific games under Manage 3D settings.

Even with the Nvidia control panel set, it does nothing. You set specific games/executables/folders to utilize the gpu but that doesn't work unless you run the game in windowed mode. I found this out last night. If you run it in full screen mode, then it's a no go. what sucks is that in windowed mode with Win 8.1 the dang taskbar shows up at the bottom of the screen and gets in the way. The work around for that it is resizing the gaming window. Seriously though, I shouldn;'t have to run all games in windowed mode with a resized window. That's ridiculous. But atleast it works until I can find a permanent solution.

    Hello All,
I purchased the GE70 20E-017US notebook yesterday from NewEgg along with a Crucial M500 120GB mSATA drive to put in there, and will be receiving it sometime tomorrow thanks to UPS. I have some questions pertaining to this computer. What all is on the Utilities DVD they provide for us? I'd like to know ahead of time so I can figure out what my best strategy would be to getting the OS onto the SSD and swapping in my 1 TB Seagate Solid State Hybrid drive for a Data/Program Drive. Also if you all would offer any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

Well I had to do the same. The best way I found was create usb flash drive (UFD) utility, take out the mechanical hdd, install msata and configure bios to start from usb hard disk. It will install the OS on the SSD and all the utilities. Then, you can install the mechanical hdd and erase the OS.

I had some problems to format the mech hdd and erase the partition, but that is another story.
