Cpu Genie costs money and rmclock doesn't work for me. Either way, this is much better and easier to use.

Well neither crystalcpuid nor setfsb managed to have have any control on my cpu. I don't know if it's because I have a ES cpu or because I'm on W7 but those did not work for me....

No it doesn't affect performance as long as you do it properly.

Lol, it's not that hard and it's not damaging to the components, the worst you will get is either a complete lockup or a bsod if you go too low. What you have to do is test every clocks toroughly for stability. If you don't want to do that manually, just get cpu genie, the demo is fully functional for 30 days. Use their undervolting automated tool. It will do all the testing by itself. When that's done, you can just copy the voltage for each multipliers and put them in a free program like rmclock or crystalcpuid.

Mkay...this might not totally be the right place for this, but I'm considering getting this model, and the cheapest option is ibuypower. I've heard bad things about the vendor in the past, but for some reason their reseller ratings have jumped significantly to 9.32/10 for the past 6 months. Perhaps their service has increased? Anyway, I'm debating between the 1651 and those new g60vx's from best buy. I'm posting this because I'd like input from owners of the 1651. Here's a link to the thread I made in a different place of the forum. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=428758

Take the g60, just for the 260m. Only thing wrong with it is that is quite a bit bulky for a 15.6 laptop....

did you take a look at what resolutions he's getting? At those small resolutions, no one will be able to tell the difference between the two video cards.

The price is so close if not cheaper for the G60v no reason not to take a more powerful gpu no matter how minor its gain is.

There are lots of reasons. The best buy version of the g51 didn't accept quad cores, so I am pretty sure the best buy g60v will not accept them either. The msi does. The msi will also get better battery life. Not to mention I think the msi looks better. Either way, they are both good laptops and he will be happy with either one.

Owners of MSI 1651 q9000 pls run Furmark in stress mode and any cpu stress test ( Prime95) at the same time. Really want to buy this model but don't want to fry egg on GPU & CPU :)

I'm 100% sure any laptop will get hot when you use 2 stress-test programs at the same time. If those programs come in stand-alone exe's, i will give them a try.

True, the vid card is a little better, but portability (weight/size) and design are also factors. Is everyone here pleased with their 1651-ID2 overall? Can someone tell me the differences between 5100 and 5300 wireless cards? I'm not too clear whether there's a significant difference. Also, does anyone have experience with ibuypower? I'm still wondering why their past 6 month rating is so much higher than their lifetime rating.

What is the difference between a 5100 and 5300 wireless card? If there even is one. I think I may try the ibuypower option due to the MSI seeming to have better cooling, smaller size and weight, better design, a better wireless card (maybe), apparently a better battery life, the free case, and their dramatic increase in positive reviews.

The 5300's aren't better at maintaining connections/more stable? If that's the only difference it's completely negligible because I only have a 100mbs connection.

The 5300 is a 3 antenna card while the 5100 is a 2 antenna card. This will tend to give you not only the extra speed that Rob mentions, but also more range and a more stable connection.

I picked WSXGA (1680x1050) over the WXGA (1280x800) panel because I needed the real estate, and I thought I could always lower the resolution to 1280x800 for gaming performance.

However so far most of the game I play ie. Oblivion, Fallout 3, Borderlands, etc., won't let me choose 1280x800. It seems that 1680x1050 is the only 16:10 resolution available. Other resolution makes circles oval, which is kinda irritating. Is there anyway around this? Will an update on the GTS 160m video card in the future change this?

I think for those who has the 1280x800 panel, they get that resolution. Is this correct?

hi lunaandbela, any success to undervolt your CPU/GPU ? which method did you use ?
i got GPU 92 - 94C playing crysis in high setting. i am not sure if i have to undervolt it. i think crysis will cause more heat than CoD 4 or 5.

There is something wrong if you are getting 92-94C, my OC card never goes past 83C.

If you are getting high temps, i suggest undervolting and re-applying the thermal paste (I used IC7).

Hi, so ive had my computer for a few months now and am loving it. however, the other day i had something slide under othe 9 key without knowing, and when i pressed down on the key instead of going down, the key popped off.. ive looked it over, and have come to the conclusion that its broke, one of the white little pegs that hold it in place had broken off of the retainer that sits underneath the key. Whats the easiest way about getting a replacement key?
    thanks

oh and i live in the US and would rather not have to send it in for a simple repair that i can make because its my school computer.

For those who have the same question, here is the solution:

Go to Nvidia Control Panel --> Advance Settings --> Display --> Manage custom resolution --> check the "Allow modes not exposed by display" under #2. This will open additional resolutions under windows and games, including 1280x800 but not 1440x900.

Anyone know of any mainstream laptop that you can buy replacement keys for that uses the same keyboard, or key and retainer design? xoticpc says the only way i can get a new key is if i buy an entire new keyboard, and 65 bucks for one key is kinda ridiculous..
Any suggestions to either cheaper keyboards that would work with the force 3511 or keys that would fit the current keyboard?

as in u cleaned off the thermal paste and dint replace it? if so thats bad.. very bad. It comes with thermal paste applied though if you havent takin it apart. Assuming thats not what you meant, and its still there.. do you keep it on a well ventilated surface? and are you playing in a warm room? like 80s? and are you overclocking it?

He has Arctic Silver 5 applied.

lunaandbela, I think you might be worrying for naught. Just because your GPU hit the mid-90's occasionally under heavy load is nothing to worry about.

It might be helpful to get a more detailed account of your temperature ranges. What are they normally under regular computing, when do you see them in the mid-range of 60-80c, and under what circumstances and how often do they exceed 80c...and by how much?

under normal conditions like at this moment they are in the 30s. after one round of gameplay in cod4. the temps are hovering in the 60s. after 2 games gpu has a temp of 86 cpu has 70 degree temps. after 3 games the gpu reached 93 degrees and the cpu is mid 70s.
