I agree about the keyboard, but that can be fixed. Also, you can always oc with setfsb, it's easy to do.

As for the heat, just get yourself either a NZXT or Zalman Cooler and that will make a big diffrence. It will cool it down alot. I am glad your happy with the laptop. MSI makes great machines.

So any upgarde plans cobra?
If you want to experiment, get a quadro fx 3700m off ebay (cost usally around 300-350). -
I have the barebone 1722, and the Q9100 so far. Not sure on what GPU I will get.
-
id love to find a 1722 around. i dont have mine anymore
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Are you looking to buy a new one?
-
You should have said something z, the ebay seller I bought mine from had 2 more, but I already gave his contact info to some people and they bought them.
-
Guys I was wondering... I got my msi barebone 1651 but it lacks of the dvd plastic cover
and it looks SOOO bad. Where could I buy one?
-
I tried setfsb but it confused the hell out of me. I dont understand how to use it.
I have an enermax aeolus that i use, cools it down a bit. -
try rk computers he may be able to get you one. or he may have them in stock

Step One: Download the newest Setfsb found here (the older versions gave me problems on win7)-
http://www13.plala.or.jp/setfsb/download/ver22/setfsb_2_2_134_98.zip
Step Two: After extracting, launch the program and change the pll to ics9lprs113aklf and click "get fsb".
Step 3: Increase the fsb as high as you want and click "set fsb"
Personally, Instead of a high unstable OC, i undervolt the cpu instead. +500mhz isn't going to make a big difference unless your benchmarking. -
How did you undervolt darthbane? I tried rmclock before with my old 1651 and it never undervolted, then again setfsb never worked with my 1651 either lol. I was however able to hardware undervolt the cpu.
-
worked okay for me???
-
I cant use setfsb, it doesnt work for me, also (I have the 10s bios) when I select the 20% overclock on the bios and then enter to the win7 desktop and press the OC hidden button I get a bsod
. Well I guess I have to stick with the 15% overclock...
-
That could be because of your ram. The overclock function is pretty heavily depended on quality ram.
-
8gb of samsung ram?
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
Setfsb will not work with ANY MSI bios that has the turbo-function. -
Oh I see, What version do you have?
-
correct you have to use the normal 1651 bios not the gx620 one
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
I am using 1.12 barebone version. Any barebone bios version will work with setfsb. HOWEVER, you also need to use the barebone firmware too. If you have the barebone bios but using the other firmware, setfsb will not work either.
I got my files from here:

I could never get rmclock to work on my system. But I found something much easier.
http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalCPUID/index-e.html
When the cpu voltage control is on, the tray icon will light up:
To make a windows-start-up shortcut add "/cq /hide" to shortcut and place in the startup folder. However, if you have uac on, you will need to use task scheduler.
-
does cpu-z reflect the change in voltages with this tool?
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
Both everest and cpuz show the voltage being lowered. They don't show the "exact" numbers as crystalcpuid does.
CrystalCPUID shows 1.163 for low and 1.188 for high, but cpuz/everest show 1.05 for low and 1.075 for high.
When voltage control is disabled, I do notice higher temps, so it does work. -
Hmm interesting I will have to try it, are you able to keep a stable overclock with it undervolted?
Edit: whaaa it actually works lol, the voltages actually change in cpu-z to match crystal. Is there a way to use the voltage settings with a x on them, it seems to mean they won't work, that and cpu-z doesn't reflect those voltages when I use them. -
Ok well I decided I don't like crystal....my cpu voltage keeps jumping around while watching videos online and the multiplier stays the same. It causes audio skipping while it does this. Really didn't make to much of a difference in temps while gaming, maybe 5c.
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
Strange, i never had any audio problems or the multiplier/voltage issue. Was your middle multiplier/voltage the same as your max? The only way for the voltage to change with the same multiplier is for the middle to have the same multiplier but different voltage then the max. -
Strange thing was it only happened with youtube video's. I set it up just like your little guide. Any who I just loaded up my system image and restored my computer to get rid of all remnants of the program and the problem is gone.
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
You had to do that to get rid of the problem?
The problem persisted even with the program not running? (btw, even if you shut off the program, the voltage regulation will remain in-effect until you reboot)
Sorry you had a bad experience with it
btw, if it makes any difference I am using x64. -
Dunno what the problem was, but it only happened with crystal cpu on the system lol. It really didn't make that much of a difference, orthos failed after a few minutes with the voltage under 1.20v with a 20% overclock. My max temps get up to 63c with the overclock and no undervolt so I'll take the overclock over the undervolt lol.

Some guy is selling a 4850, and I sent a pm. If I do get it, I will be selling my 160m for 250-300 if anyone's interested.
-
Lol it seems that you will beat every 1651
grrrr MEEE wants, Naa its ok my HD3870 will be enough
.
-
OC that 3870 and you will get similar preformance to the 4850.
I am slowly getting away from the laptop scene, I am building up my desktop. Right now it will play and game out on max everything. Its just so much cheaper to upgrade compared to a laptop. -
I didn't realize the 4850 had a HE tab on it. Does the 4850 in the gt725 also have one?
-
No it dont, Only the ones from the M17 have the HE tabs I think.
-
hmm that might cause problems then. Might want to see if you can get a gt725 vbios for the 4850.
-
seems to be a error with permisions
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=1762836388&sid=1 -
so anyone tried a quad, the q9200 does not work with bios 1.12 but it could be the same reason it doesnt work on the m17x right
-
I've got a quad core. Works like a charm. I even found a couple ways to enable quad core rendering on games like wow.
-
You have the 1651 refresh, their referring to the older 1651 with the 9600m GT and DDR2 memory.
-
correct the previous version gx620
-
send it to me zfactor I'll test it for you.
-
what the cpu? ive tested it in the first gen 620 no go..
-
I can test it in a 1722 to see if its just the bios that don't accept it.
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
zfactor, can you edit the msi bios? I keep reading in the alienware forum of your special bios for their laptops.
-
I second that
, btw Darth Bane please answer my pm
.
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
I don't know if i want to sell it since they are pretty rare. I also forgot you live in mexico, right? -
Right I live in Mexico, but I would pay EVERYTHING
, ask zfactor, I paid him quickly, if you wish I could give you even more money, I just want to get that bezel cuz my poor laptop looks bad
.
-
Get an alienware bezel with some led's and alien heads on it, it'll make your computer look at least 10 times cooler.
-
hi everyone. today i was playing team fortress two on my msi 1651 id2 and my laptop all of the sudden shut down and would not start up again until i unplugged it and removed the battery. Does anyone have any idea why my laptop would randomly shut off like that?
