^^
Very strange. Did it have any symptoms leading up to the shutdown? Did you notice if it was running warmer than usual or if the fans were running?
-
Did it shut down while you were using the overclock feature?
-
could be the battery. i have seen many systems from various manufactures do this when the battery has a bad or failing cell in it. keep and eye on it and try a rundown test of the battery there are many programs for this that are free if you google "battery rundown test". i own a repair shop and see this often
and as above was it in turbo mode at the time? -
it would take time to learn their bios structure etc i dont know to much about the msi bios' alienware / flex uses a pretty standard phoenix setup which i know well
also i recc going back to the old kbs firmware. works much better than the current one -
thanks for the help everyone. I wasn't using the overdrive feature. The fans seemed to be running faster than usual but my laptop hasn't done this since granted i haven't had any long tf2 sessions in a while. I will keep everyone updated.
P.S. @ zfactor, i wasn't able to find any battery rundown tests on google and wasn't sure what you meant by battery rundown -
Does anyone know if the 1st gen ms-1651 can take a x9100+gts 160m comfortably? I think that will be the last upgrade to my system since I can't go Quad...
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
That's a good question, I think it would be a much safer bet to go with a t9900. -
I don't think it really matters just get the cheapest one of the two that you can find.
-
Shouldn't have a problem. May need to update bios though, depending on which version you are using.
-
It would be ok, but I suggest you to get a t9900 or even a t9800.
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
Has anyone with a qx9300 been able to hit a stable oc of 3.0ghz? I can oc to 3 to 3.1ghz, but its not stable. (question for anyone with a msi laptop)
-
What method of overclocking? Turbo button? Bios overclock? SetFSB?
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
Setfsb. The turbo is locked at 4% and there is no bios options to oc. -
Did you get the 4850 in yet?
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
It's going to be a while before I post anything in depth (i hate ati drivers, plus that ati "stream" crap software).
However, performance is what I expected. Lower 3dmark06, but godly Vantage scores. -
Please please after you are done post your temps, benchmarks and everything else
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
the annoying about temps is that it doesn't show up in cpuid hardware monitor, but everest and gpuz still shows the temps. -
You can try the newest version of hwmonitor, it is better

I have the GX620 and i'm looking for a replacement for my 9600 gt.Which is the fastest card that can fit in my laptop and what should i do to make it work?
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
Well the fastest card that you can go without a replacing the heatsink would be a ati 4670, but you have a better chance of catching a unicorn.
If you are willing to get buy a replacement heatsink, then a 9800m gs, 160m gts, or ati 4850 will work. -
please tell me where to find such heatsink and should i also buy 130w power adapter
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
The 120w power adapter that comes with it will be just fine.
Lucky for you, all you need for the heatsink is this:

Btw, I am selling a 160m gts that came form a msi gt628. -
Your best bet would be to buy that heat sink and then buy the GTS 160m from Darth. That is a great price for that GPU being it just came out not that long ago. It makes the 9600m GT look like an IGP lol. Good luck with your choices though. MSI laptops are great to upgrade, I upgraded a GX720 to a ATI 3870 and I had 0 problems with it.

Has anyone had any luck figuring out if the m4400 rgbled wuxga panel would work on the ms-1651?
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
I thought it used the new lcd interface? 99.9% sure it will not work. -
so how much for the 160m gts and would you be able to send it to bulgaria?
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
Shipping would be outrageous I think (i'm in US). -
Actually if you use USPS for international shipping it would cost less than $20 to send. I know because I ship alot of stuff overseas.
-
yeah shipping won't be a problem just tell me how much do you want for it
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
I was hoping for $240 US?

Geared2play.com Company Representative
I third it!
why are we not allowed to creat threads? for our own safety i guess -
I think there are not enough 1656 owners around here to create a new thread...
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
yea, point one out for me plz
-
Someone get it going again xD, we'l all secretly chip in with our 1722's haha.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
We have a few dozen out there...maybe they just don't hang out here.
I guess I need to education them as to where all the good action is

There should be a lounge for the 1656 . . . I am testing one now from Donald, it is beautiful.
-
The 1656 is the model with the i7 and gt 240m right?
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
Yes, but it's 250m, not 240m -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Almost...it uses the Intel® Core i7 Mobile Quad Processors with the GTS 250M w/1GB GDDR3
-
I stumbled upon the hd5870 in mxm3 type B in the eurocom upgrade page. Only problem that thing cost $800...
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
yea, have fun with that.... -
Sigh... Why are those items always so overpriced. The price on the rgbled panel on ebay is still in the 500s.
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
This one?

I'm sure they will not work, but I would be happy to be wrong. But yea, $500 is not worth it. -
Wow those are expensive but should be awesome Dont know if they would work
, but you could even upgrade to a regular wuxga screen
.

As noted, GTS 250M. Our test rig has an i7-720, 4GB RAM, Seagate 320GB 7200.4, Windows 7.
Our review of the PowerPro 10:17 (MSI 1727) is slated to go up soon, not sure what the delay is. It had similar specs, same video card; got 8282 3DMark06 w/ the i7-820 (1280x800).
The PowerPro I 7:15 (1656) is seems to be a fantastic choice for a mobile gaming laptop, it is far smaller than anything Alienware offers and smaller than the Sager 15.6" as well (and less money).
As usual, hang around for our full review. I will be happy to answer any questions in the mean time. -
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
I find that kind of sad. The only saving grace is that it consumes so very little power compared to other cards (i think it's around 25w). But who cares about that in a gaming laptop? The 9800m/160m and ati 3870/4850 are all better performers. Whoever made the decision to go with gddr3 instead of gddr5 should get their butts kicked. -
I second that! Come on even the 9800GS is more powerful than the 250m gddr3, I was expecting something, you know... More powerful like a gtx 260m or ATI hd 4850...
