    ^^

Very strange. Did it have any symptoms leading up to the shutdown? Did you notice if it was running warmer than usual or if the fans were running?

Did it shut down while you were using the overclock feature?

could be the battery. i have seen many systems from various manufactures do this when the battery has a bad or failing cell in it. keep and eye on it and try a rundown test of the battery there are many programs for this that are free if you google "battery rundown test". i own a repair shop and see this often

and as above was it in turbo mode at the time?

thanks for the help everyone. I wasn't using the overdrive feature. The fans seemed to be running faster than usual but my laptop hasn't done this since granted i haven't had any long tf2 sessions in a while. I will keep everyone updated.
P.S. @ zfactor, i wasn't able to find any battery rundown tests on google and wasn't sure what you meant by battery rundown

Does anyone know if the 1st gen ms-1651 can take a x9100+gts 160m comfortably? I think that will be the last upgrade to my system since I can't go Quad...

That's a good question, I think it would be a much safer bet to go with a t9900.

I don't think it really matters just get the cheapest one of the two that you can find.

Shouldn't have a problem. May need to update bios though, depending on which version you are using.

Setfsb. The turbo is locked at 4% and there is no bios options to oc.

It's going to be a while before I post anything in depth (i hate ati drivers, plus that ati "stream" crap software).

However, performance is what I expected. Lower 3dmark06, but godly Vantage scores.

Well the fastest card that you can go without a replacing the heatsink would be a ati 4670, but you have a better chance of catching a unicorn.

If you are willing to get buy a replacement heatsink, then a 9800m gs, 160m gts, or ati 4850 will work.

Your best bet would be to buy that heat sink and then buy the GTS 160m from Darth. That is a great price for that GPU being it just came out not that long ago. It makes the 9600m GT look like an IGP lol. Good luck with your choices though. MSI laptops are great to upgrade, I upgraded a GX720 to a ATI 3870 and I had 0 problems with it.

As noted, GTS 250M. Our test rig has an i7-720, 4GB RAM, Seagate 320GB 7200.4, Windows 7.

Our review of the PowerPro 10:17 (MSI 1727) is slated to go up soon, not sure what the delay is. It had similar specs, same video card; got 8282 3DMark06 w/ the i7-820 (1280x800). ;) The PowerPro I 7:15 (1656) is seems to be a fantastic choice for a mobile gaming laptop, it is far smaller than anything Alienware offers and smaller than the Sager 15.6" as well (and less money).

As usual, hang around for our full review. I will be happy to answer any questions in the mean time.

I find that kind of sad. The only saving grace is that it consumes so very little power compared to other cards (i think it's around 25w). But who cares about that in a gaming laptop? The 9800m/160m and ati 3870/4850 are all better performers. Whoever made the decision to go with gddr3 instead of gddr5 should get their butts kicked.

I second that! Come on even the 9800GS is more powerful than the 250m gddr3, I was expecting something, you know... More powerful like a gtx 260m or ATI hd 4850... :(
