It is very stupid, they should have just gone IGP, small book then interchangable to a 160m
-
So if i buy the heatsink gt627 has i will run 160gts or maybe hd4850.I have to be sure it can be done.My 9600m gt is too weak for most games
-
Yes the heatsink from the GT627 will work with the GTS 160m, I dont know if it will work with the 4850 I doubt it will.
-
you are saying i should give up on hd4850 and go for 160m gts?
-
To save yourself the troubles I would stick with the GTS 160m, Its alot cheaper too.

Anyone dealt with Kingston hyperx memory?

Here were my GT627 Stats
MSI GT627 -T9800 OC 20% - 3.511GHZ , 9800M GS 1GB DDR3 , Corsair Memory gave a windows experience of 6.8

I have with the desktop kind, I am currently using it with the specs in my sig, Best ram so far hands down. Great OC too.

I did some benchmarks on the 1656 (which I just submitted the review for) - NFS Shift @ 1680x1050 high settings = 30+ FPS avg, Crysis 1280x800 High settings = 22 FPS avg, 3DM06 = 8300 or so (1280x800). Not too shabby.
-
Hey thats not that bad, it is around a 8800gts then
. Pretty decent I would say
.
-
Yep, its not lacking, not as bad as what i thought, thanks for the results charles.

Hi All
Does anyone know of an LED screen compatible with the 1651?
Cheers -
Thanks for them charles, the machines making some really nice work of them temps, i must say!
. And its turning out to be a nice performer after all (now someone OC this sucker
haha.)

Be nice if you guys started using furmark so we can see the max the gpu will hit.

My bluetooth module is giving me troubles. I keep getting "USB Device not recognized" and the bluetooth software doesn't detect it. Any pointers to the cause of the problem? I've disabled it for the time being but I keep hearing the device connected/disconnected sound and it's driving me crazy!
-
Thats a fair point that, someone up for burn testing the card?
Ayle try and get the hardware ids and prehaps look around good for drivers for that specific id, thats sometimes what i do. -
I never got to see which device was doing the noise since the device manager was refreshing every 5s... But the problem went away by itself apparently. I just deleted my bluetooth drivers and downloaded the ones on the toshiba website
... Weird.
Why does the gx640 have something that looks like a much better GPU than the one in the GT640??? I thought the GX series were inferior to the GT series? -
Hi all. Does anyone know of any good drivers for this laptops touchpad? I usually have a mouse so i never worried about it before but new and customizable touchpad drivers would be amazing. Please PM me or respond to this post. It would be greatly appreciated.

max0227...I PM'd you the link to our website where you will find the Sentelic Touchpad drivers

How on earth do you get spdif working???? I bought a optical audio cable that came with a 3.5mm adapter and plugged it but the only the laptop only detects it as if I had plugged earphones... Ergo, it doesn't work and I'm pretty miffed about it. Who is the idiot who decided that 9600m Gt could only carry 2 audio channels on HDMI?
This is the cable I got:

What am I doing wrong? -

You may have to go to the HD audio manager, click on the digital tab and select as default device to enable the SPDIF output.
And yes that looks like the correct cable. -
Let me know fi this works because im curious to know if my machine also has operational spdif.
Cheers,

Hey guys, I've been out of this MSI game for awhile, selling my 1651-ID2 and planning to reformat it with win7 for new owner, where can i find the drivers for it?
-

If it is the same as the GX620 here below, if it is the newer (GT628) the other link. All are available on the MSI site:

If anyone's curious, a hp ati 3650 works (require some slight modding of heatsink). I was afraid it would be bios locked or something, but it worked.
-
Isn't it quite the downgrade from the 9600m? I regret having become so accustomed to CUDA I don't think I'll be using ATI for a while
-
I've enjoyed stream working very well,
Will 3650 work in the 1722 models, i've noticed (I think) ebay has alot, and if i ever needed a temporary solution, this could work. -
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
For $40 bucks, and with no gaming, the 3650 was perfect.
It will work (and with no modding of the heatsink
)
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
Will the 3650 run cooler than a 9800m GS and will it give better battery life?
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
Don't know about temps, but it will definitely give better battery life at the cost of performance. -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
how much battery life are we talking about, 1hr?
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
There is no place on the MSI website to download the barebones BIOS right?
If anybody has the barebones BIOS which is early (has memory frequency and timing options) please share it with me
-
hey, is that 160m still available? What's the difference between that heatsink and the one it comes with... They identical, and there's nothing in the decription that says it's different. I'm not debating weather or not you're right about saying you need to change the heatsink, I'm just curious what's the specific difference between that one and the stock heatsink that I already have... Are they different part numbers?
Also i have a question about 9 cell batteries. Has anyone replaced their 6 cell with a 9 cell? Also i see some are 10.8v and some are 11.1v, and the 10.8v are slightly more expensive. Why are the 10.8v more expensive? -
hi all, my laptop crashed today while i was playing hl2. i had to remove the battery to get the laptop to power up again. this happened to me another time a while ago. does anyone have any idea for why this happened? also does anyone know of any good programs to moniter my cpu and gpu temperature, and test if all my fans are working properly
-
also how high should my gpu's temp get? because i think that might be the reason it is crashing
-
ok just played for a little and monitered the gpu temperature. it shot up to 98 very quickly, which is bad right? i thought so so i shut down the game, any ideas for how to get my gpu running cooler. any chance the heatsink got messed up or something? any ideas would are appreciated
-
Try these to monitor your CPU & GPU
http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php
http://www.hwinfo.com/
That is bad. Re paste it and get a cooler. -
thanks, what would be an ok gpu and cpu temperature. When not gaming my gpu's run at about 40-50 degrees celcius, and my gpu stays around 50-60 degrees celcius
-
Well your temps at idle are fine but shouldn't be hitting 98 when gaming.
Don't play any games , just re paste both with some good compounds. -

The first thing to do is make sure your fan is working.
If it is, then take the bottom plate off that covers your GPU and CPU to clean out all the dust and other gunk with a can of compressed air (always hold the compressed air can upright and tilt your computer if necessary). Make sure your exhaust vent is clean as well.
Then test. You may be amazed at all the junk that has been blocking your cooling system. -
Are there any cheap places where I can get a gt627 heatsink? I don't really want to pay the $80 RKC is asking for it...
-
hi all. i was wondering if anyone knows who the manufacturer of the touchpad on this computer (msi 1651 id2) is. I am trying to enable multitouch support using some new synaptic drivers. the article is here http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/19/synaptics-driver-enables-multitouch-gestures-on-older-trackpads/
Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks everyone. -
Alps is the manufacturer for the touchpad.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Actually, the touchpad is Sentelic.
-
I've recently had the issue where my laptop randomly shuts off. I cleaned all dustout and the fan works. I know I need to replace the arctic silver soon. what points should the arctic silver be applied using the following picture? Can someone circle those areas using ms paint.
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
The red places have paste (and it will be hard to clean off).
The blue places have thermal pads, dont damage them.Attached Files:
-
-
well one of the thermal pads has a slight burn in it. not completely a hole but small circle. should i take a picture of the pads/places wherethe paste should go? that way you can tell whether or not the paste needs to be replaced?
-
well I think i might have fixed what ever was causing the issue. in idle my temps were like 75 C ten min ago, then after i took everything out and put it back in i get an idle temp of 48 C. but ill still take pictures to show yall tommorow.
