Ok, I thought you already owned the GT72...... sorry!
Build quality is very nice, and the design is smartly done.

If you're ever getting one, buy the one that has the fans point right at laptop's intake. In GT72's case, right at centre if my memories serves me right.
I usually just get the one that rise the laptop so it gets bigger gap underneath for easier air intake, the external fan/s are only useful when the internal fan/s are inadequate, otherwise they just add more noises.

No
or....
I do my Ton of reccearch before i make my move usualy, to the point when i can almost feel what it,, feels like
Does the work i think, and diminishing the chances of disappointment:thumbsup: -
Not sure if this topic had been brought up but has anyone figured out how to reprogram the xcast button to something else?

I received my GT72 007! I've loved it (apart from removing annoying Killer network software which automatically limits my bandwidth while at work), but I can't seem to get above 1050MB/s read speeds (and 1000 write) with my super raid three. I have a 512gb raid 0 (which came stock I'm assuming with 4 128GB m.2 ssds).
I feel bummed out missing out on 350MB/s of read (compared to the tests in the OP) when I paid so much for the laptop. Is MSI simply trying to save money by adverting 1600 MB/s and then shipping with slower SSDs? Maybe batches of m.2 SSDs come at varying speeds and it is a gamble? I'm unfamiliar with the technology and this is my first system with Raid, so any help would be appreciated.
Perhaps it is a mistake on my end in my settings? Or a faulty drive? If anyone could point me to some software that could test for a problem I would be willing to dig around and report my results for anyone with similar issues.
Any help from the community would be greatly appreciated . Thanks!

My hunch is your system is fine, and performing normally, given your SSD brand. SSD speeds can vary considerably, with differing capacities, and amongst the many brands. The notebook I tested was delivered with faster Toshiba M.2 SSD's, and yes, some are receiving notebooks with slower Kingston M.2 SSD's. MSI has sent you the SuperRAID 3 configuration, but my guess is you have an SSD performing slower than the Toshiba's. Which SSD's do you have? Have you done an audit, or any benchmarking yet? It sounds to me like you may have the Kingston SSD's...... which are not bad, just not as fast. Take a peek HERE, and see if this looks familiar.
So that said, I do not believe you have been slighted in anyway, but rather, you received the SSD available, at that time of manufacture. M.2 technology is still somewhat in it's infancy, and I am sure we will see faster M.2's on the horizon. You can always upgrade later to faster SSD's, with even greater capacities, but believe it or not, you are already smok'in HOT. I am betting if given two GT72's, one with Kingston, the other with Toshiba SSD's, that you would not be able to tell the difference, in the real-world cognitive sense. Yes, you would notice in the benchmarks, but now we are just talking about bragging rights, aren't we?
Anyhow, it is not uncommon for manufacturers to make equivalent hardware component changes, and this is generally the result of the 'supply and demand', of any given component...... as a matter of fact, most any specification list will state, 'components may vary, and are subject to change'.
Let's us know which SSD's you have.
Edit: I got so absorbed in the SSD thing, I forgot to mention...... go into your Killer settings and uncheck the box limiting bandwidth.

Is that for the UK or the US?

Probably the major countries like those, but i dunno.. they are all assembeled the same place i guess, maybe european countries with different keyboard layouts would take longer?..

Hello, I am the new owner of the GT72 Dom Pro 010. Got it Wed. So far real happy with it. However, I have a quick question. The GPU button. When I press it nothing happens. No restarts, no warning, nothing, zilch. What is it supposed to do exactly? From what I was understanding it was supposed to reboot and run GPU for games. I played two games so far and I didnt have any problems with them. (high frame rates ultra settings)
-
Hmm.. Can't find any drivers for it here either?
MSI Global - Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Motherboard, Graphics and more
edit: Then maybe it is a direct hardware button? if yours is not working, something must be wrong, have you tried restarting the machine and done it again? -
Yea I think so> I can do it again here in a few minutes. I will post. Anything in bios?
-
I watched a youtube video, could not see anything in the bios.. Let's hope a restart helps, altho that would be kinda weird..
If it does not help go into Control Panel - Device management - se if you can spot anything marked yellow, or if you find that button there se if it has a driver or anything.. have no idea what anything would look like other than usual, my eyes are wet because i am not yet a owner
edit: If you can not find anything, i dunno, try windows update to no more updates available.. -
I've been pressing it since post and nothing. I went to that link you posted and it said I already had the best driver. I'd like to see a video of what happens when you press it.
-
My bad: MSI Global - Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Motherboard, Graphics and more
This is the utility section, if none of those drivers fixes the problem i really dunno.
You should also updatebattery firmware for better battery life:
http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GT72-2PE-Dominator-Pro.html#down-firmware&Win8.1%2064
Btw: was any of the utility's installen? -
ok. thanks a lot for the help btw. I dunno what I did. I started Dragon Gaming Center and changed it from Cel to Far and hit button and it displayed the reboot screen. Gonna give a try again right now. Brb
-
Ok well I repeated it and nothing. So, I turned on the SCM an put it on Game and I got the reboot screen. Light is on. I don't know why you just wouldn't leave it on all the time. I can't hear the fan at all.Gonna run the battery thing.
-
lol. what is wierd is that the scm has to be set everytime for it to act right

Having your own personal MSI Rep is a wonderful thing...... why not give him a try (and a warm welcome while you're at it)?

It's been a while since discussed and I don't recall if it got mentioned here, but anybody that has the GT72 with that false reading for battery wear being high, just got confirmed by MSi that they have an update for the machines that will break that feature and all future GT72 models are no longer shipping with that feature.
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Oh yeah, it (and the FW update) has been discussed, but many thanks for the info.

I hear the new 17" Acer Nitro will have an eDP IPS display. Hopefully MSI is using these by the time I buy a GT72,
I can't buy a laptop that has a screen this poor. -
Hmmm, I don't think the screen is bad at all. Viewing angles are ok. It's bright enough for gaming. I actually turned the brightness down on mine for regular web page reading
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It uses a standard eDP connector
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
It should lit up and requires a reboot to become effective.
The purpose of the button is to switch to dedicated discrete GPU mode by turning off Optimus technology. -
Hi mate. I also experienced the same issue. I have a feeling that it's something to do with the new BIOS or Firmware update. Just a thought. It's not even a month and I've had 3 issues with my laptop (non-pro version)
1. Wi-Fi was dropping out,
2. switchable graphics button does nothing, and
3. the laptop wasn't even shutting down.
I have RMAd it to MSI on Monday but haven't heard back from them... I think I've received a faulty unit
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Did you make any changes to the OS? Such as format and reinstall? -
Nope. No changes were made.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Do you still have the notebook with you? Or it had been sent off to MSI already?
I wanted to ask you to do a factory reset first to see if the issue persists or not afterwards. -
Unfortunately, I've already RMAd the notebook to MSI. I even asked the technician whether we should do any troubleshooting or conduct tests before sending the notebook to them... but he said it's better for them to have it with them for testing.
Not a good experience with MSI so far... -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Yup, that's definitely a terrible experience, and a bad start.
Hopefully their service can right the wrong for you. Keep us updated. -
Thanks, Kevin. I can only hope...
Will let you know once I have the laptop back. -
While experiences like that can be sour, remember that the company will much rather take a look themselves because they will assume the user can't fix it without possibly voiding warranty or generating even more complaints for lack of service to begin with.
There are a number of issues that can happen with a notebook of any brand. And since RMA takes a long time, this is why forums like this exist
We are gathered here because a lot of users like to fix issues by themselves and have the knowledge to do so. Additionally we have representatives of the company as well as valuable resellers that offer help to everyone, not only customers.
So don't worry! Even if your laptop has any further issues, let's try and fix them
Kevin@GenTechPC likes this. -
Yes, I totally understand where you're coming from.
I usually search for known issues by myself by looking on Google and/or forums before I panic and give bad names to the manufacturers. That's what I do with my phone and did with my old Alienware. I didn't have issues with the Alienware until it reached its 3-year mark.
I RMAd the laptop because I was a bit frustrated that the issues started occurring within 2 weeks of purchase and also because the MSI engineer requested me to do so Anyway, let's see what MSI say and if I do have any further issues, I'll post here
Thanks, ryzeki. -
The upcoming Asus G751 will have an IPS display too.

Yep I understand, no worries! At least you will get it fixed, and it does sound very annoying (the issues you had).mrigankp likes this.

Awesome. I really love my Asus N550's IPS display, so I have high hopes for the 751!

Hey folks. Couldnt really find a solid review but just wondering. Is this 2 fan system much better then in the GT70? Like night and day noise and heat differences or does the GT70 single huge fan still do an ok job?
-
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Temps are about the same, it's just able to do it quieter using dual fans and it also allows the individual components to cool independently rather than relying on the same fan between them to get that heat taken care of. So overall not much difference, but definitely a little more pleasant. Biggest consideration to take into account in my opinion is the socketed CPUs on the GT70 vs the attached CPU in the 72 models. If you're wanting to upgrade that CPU possibly, GT70 is the route to go, if not I'd shoot for the GT72 models.
-
Please check the very first post and second post of this thread. While this is a new product and there might not be a lot of reviews, there is certainly a wealth of information available. I am sure you will find the answer to your question there
-
Looks like the new "extreme" edition of the GT72 will still sport a HQ processor but will have a 4980HQ instead of the stock 4710HQ in the other systems.
You heard it here first folks. -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
LOL! Sorry, but I don't think so..... you're late!
-
I haven't seen where anyone posted the CPU that the newer models will have? Another thread?
Also for people anticipating buying said top end sku of GT72 be prepared to spend upwards of $4200!!! -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
HERE, and those prices are wrong.
-
Good thing. That is a ridiculous price for a non extreme cpu/single gpu solution.
I might be more interested in the new GT60 with either a 970m or 980m -
The GT72 just keeps getting better and better. I want confirmed 120Hz screens, because I want it all.
-
I know what you mean Talon. I have a feeling MSI might be cooking a new GT60 version soon! Though I don't think anything can be announced until nvidia formally announces their maxwell GPUs.
-
Hey your a mod now?! Nice and congrats ryzeki
Yeah I'm still on the fence on wether to stick with 15" or go 17" with my next laptop, but with the new GPU's coming out I think I might go big and get the GT72.
Waiting sucks!
