It's about 2 to 3 hours, you may get a little extra over 3 hours if you use maximum power saving plan without wifi, etc.

thank u so much. so around 2,5 hours of battery life on IGP thats good. I would believe the gt72 dominator (non pro) would bring a little more battery life to it?
-
thanks. Fan noise is only loud under full load (playing games)? everything stays cool under the hood?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes the fans only ramp up under significant load. The cooling setup is designed for quiet operation at idle.

Hi Kevin. I am experiencing the wi-fi issues again. I have the latest wi-fi drivers installed and my firmware/BIOS are up to date. Please see attached images (above post) if they help at all. As mentioned previously, all other devices on the same wi-fi network work perfectly. It's just the laptop.
-
I don't have a whole lot of time to go through all 111 pages, so maybe someone here can direct me.
Has anyone posted how to get ot the other side of the motherboard for more RAM and SSD to be installed? -
Not in the first half of the post.

Hey guys, I've got this laptop and the screen keeps dimming to suit the game/atmosphere of what is displayed, how do I turn this off (I've gone to adaptive brightness and disabled it and saved it and i'm on that current power)
If anyone knows how to stop it please let me know, it's getting really annoying xD -
Hi guys, I have been following this topic and the unofficial/official tread about the 900m series in the past 2 months, as I really enjoy your advice.
Now I have to buy the laptop as soon as possible and my final choice is be between the GT72 Dominator (970m6gb, no ssd, 16gb ram) and the Asus G751 (980m4gb, 256gb ssd, 24gb ram).
Considering the need to buy a ssd for the gt72, the difference is just 200 (10% of the price) for 40% more graphic performance, better screen and cooling with the Asus, and I would go with it.
But the MSI guarantee future upgrade for the mxm module with the future generation, so the opportunity to get the "1080m" or even a "1180m" in a few yeas for 600-800 bucks is VERY tempting, but at the same time not so solid as a pc that is finished as it is like the asus (maybe just the missing 8gb of ram for the empty slot but that it)
What would you do? What is your opinion/experience about the mxm upgrade?
PS: even if I never "touch" them in person, I prefer the msi look and personalisation
PSS: I'm Italian, but I will buy from uk as I don't care for the English keyboard difference
Thank for your attention
-
take the GT72 for gaming! but, g751 got ips.. i'm now waiting until the msi GT80 comes out.
-
The MXM upgrade seems like a good deal since these models should keep up for a few years, and the GPU is the most likely to show it's age out of any parts. The upgrade of course will be MSI since they will have to be manufactured in the same layout so that the clearance and cooling will still work. this seems like a good choice if you are comparing to other notebooks of similar builds as most others will not offer this assurance
-
hello. I also had to return the laptop to the seller.
I'm from Russia, let's try to understand what is common in our laptops and what can fail?
Russian tech support to complain that the party contains realtek wifi instead killer, but because you have killer wifi, right? then the problem is not in it
can you go to Device Manager and look what you have there? -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Only Intel have this issue with their 7.x drivers.
If you have killer then your system shouldn't have this problem. -
realtek too. i have realtek and have wifi problems.
-
Anybody update their Video Drivers from 333.11 to 344.75 yet without any problems ? Just got Far cry 4 and wanted to see if I should update the drivers for it.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
GT72 doesn't use Realtek for both LAN & Wireless LAN, except Bluetooth.
You can update the Killer driver from the driver download page by clicking here.
-
So which has less connectivity issues, more range, and no memory leaks: Bigfoot Networks Killer or Intel AC 7260?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I've used both and over all the AC7260 takes the slight lead for me due to the drivers being cleaner and more hassle free.
-
any update on this ?
Thank you -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Why don't you try it? You can always go back if you need to
-
Well my last laptop broke after updating the video card, trying to avoid that. so that's why I'm asking if anybody update their video cards yet.......
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It was unlikely to be the drivers that caused that.
-
so nobody else update their video drivers yet ? that's the only question I have.
Thank you -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
It may not be supported by the latest Nvidia driver because they may not include the hardware ID in the package yet.
However, it's best to install it and find out whether it works or not. The newest release just came out two days ago.
Version 344.75, click here to go to download page.
Installing wrong driver cannot damage your system.
Let's wait and see if someone else who can answer your question. -
I have had such bad luck with these things. Two months ago I got a beefed up gt72 2qe which died suddenly for no reason. Three weeks later I gotta hell of a deal and got an upgrade for free, basically a gt-72 2qe 445 with hyper-x ddr3 1800. It didn't take long to figure out it DIDN'T HAVE A BATTERY IN IT!
-
Where are you buying from? it seems the issue is where you get those things rather than the laptop itself.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes that's quite an interesting issue, was it just not connected or totally missing? Do you have a picture?
-
hi there..
I just had to RMA my notebook to Poland (bought in Germany). I had an issue with the raid Controller. About once a week the second SATA Port showed empty and after reboot all was fine again. I used four 512gb Crucial M550 and configured as two 1TB raid 0 drives.
RMA center now told me, they cant see any problems and will return it.
Anyone heard of missing SATA drive? Could it be a faulty
super raid 3 adapter? -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Which drive disappeared? You can make a note of the connector, then redo test on that connector.
Can you also take picture of your Super RAID adapter board and then post it here? -
Thank you for your answer,
sorry what do you mean by note and test that connector?
I noticed the problem, when there was a bluescreen in windows because of sata failure (in log).
when the next bluescreen appeared, i looked into the bios and found the second sata "empty" (2nd from the top). I think it is marked as channel 1.
The adapter is marked with drive 1-4 and channel 1 in bios should be drive 2 on the adapter. I cant take a picture, because it is still in repair center in poland. The adapter has two sides, each with two m.2 connectors.
I already changed all four drives to exclude a failure with the SSDs, still the Empty slot number two with bluescreen about once a week
At the MSI Hotline I was told to remove the drives (I wrote this in the RMA) and in the mail from poland they asked me to send the drives now.... -

We noticed thermal issues (drives dying/severe throttle) running 4 M550 drives in raid 0 when running a lot of I/O running through them and as such do not offer this configuration ourselves.
-
drive temps (crystaldiskinfo) when bluescreen around 30 celsius...
normal surfing/gaming I/O usage..
and always drive 2? -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
It could be daughterboard issue, but again we don't know for sure unless you swapped out drive 2 when loss of detection occurred. -
I already swapped drives after Drive 2 disappeared. Also I returned drive 1 and 2 and inserted new drives as the failure was still apparent.
Maybe you mean somethig different to try? If so, please describe again, my english-class is quite long ago...
I will try, when my notebook is returned. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
If you had done swapping then it's either the motherboard itself, or the daughterboard.
Hopefully the RMA team on their end can figure out the root cause to this issue.STIXXXXX likes this. -
I hope so too and keep you updated..

Ok.... my notebook is back without email or comment. The only note on the summary was: 'no trouble found'.
I had the next bluescreen with disappearing drive 2 about one hour later....
So I changed first two drives with 3rd and 4th and no bluescreen anymore, but still missing drive (Now drive D: because I configured two raid 0 out of the four drives.
This solution is better than the frequent bluescreens - but still not satisfying
Any idea, where to get a SuperRaid3-daughterboard?
Greets from Germany.. -

They're hard to come by. This site has one listed for the GT 60 and GT 70: http://www.super-laptop-parts.com/m...r-msata-ssd-raid-2-adapter-board-p-33513.html
You can inquire there, seeing as how they ship worldwide.
Good luck!STIXXXXX likes this. -
Greetings Everyone!
Ok so I just got a Dominator Pro 010 so I figured I would join the club. So I have a couple of questions about upgrading to a larger m.2 solution.
#1 If I were to buy two more drives, do they need to be the same make or make and model?
#2 If they don't have to be the same, can I put larger drives in? Like 256 or 512gb drives?
The reason I am asking is that I currently have 2 THNSNJ128G8NU made by toshiba. They are not currently available from what I can tell. The only ones I found were on ebay for 150 each, but I can get a samsung 250gb for 140. If I put two in, I can have 750gb of storage and I won't run into any problems with storage later. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Every slot is independant and can be put into any raid combo (2 different raid sets if you like). So it's up to you, just don't combine different drives into a raid set nd remember a single larger drive offers better future expansion, lower power consumption and often faster small file speeds.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
1. They are recommended to be the same make/model for best result, but if you can't find identical part you can use different make/model. Performance will be impacted by the slowest drive.
2. You can use a larger capacity drive but the capacity of RAID array will be capped by the smallest drive. So if you are switching why not just switch both of them out to maximize the usability of your investment? -
i got the downgraded model not the dominator pro. i got the regular dominator lol. everything is pretty smooth. can anyone provide links to what type of ssd chips i could install as i have 4 blank ports to use. ive seen alot of contradicting info and i ended up buying the wrong model ssd that wont fit. (smacks myself).
would this work for me? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147366 -
Well I wanted to take advantage of the Super Raid 3 as in 4x drives in RAID 0 mode. So right now I only have 2 128gb ssd's striped, but I would prefer four. So what I was looking at was getting another 2 128gb drives then putting them in Raid, but I can't find suitable drives to do it, so I might just keep the 128's buy two more 2 more 240s and raid them. I can install games and apps on the 240's and keep the windows installation on the 128s so I still get the performance I want. My other option is to sell the two 128's that came with it and just buy 4 240s and raid them together to get the full read speed boost. It already has a 1TB hard drive for storage so I can keep all music, vids and larger programs that don't need the performance boost on it. I was also thinking of installing a 1tb in the other sata2 port to keep that as a system image backup.

Go to this website, click "File" and it will pull up a PDF explaining everything you need to know about your problem. http://www.msi.com/faq/nb-1117.html
-
As far as I know, you need to buy SATA m.2 SSDs, so you won't be able to use that one as it is a PCIexpress ssd. M.2 is the form factor, sata is the controller/how it communicates.

(I posted this in an upgrade thread, but I figured I'd post it here to).
Hello fellow Dominators,
I did a ton of research and spoke to a few MSI reps concerning the "official" GT72 upgrade program. It is not the news I was hoping for, but I figured I'd share the wealth with y'all. It's actually not too hard or much of a cost increase to get an official upgrade. For more info, please take a look at this other thread with Geno the MSI rep and it explains everything I was able to dig up...
