It is different from the early 1722 and the keys are not only color coded, but rearranged around the numeric pad to make using the keyboard much easier.

I found the 1722 keyboard not that bad...
It took a bit of getting used to the ctrl/fn placement and the small direction keys but nothing so big that I give up... -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Yeah, I had no complaints about the 1722's keyboard. It was a love it hate it keyboard. I loved it. What I especially loved, and it carries to the 1727, is the mid level placement of the keyboard. I really don't like laptops like, let's say the Whitebook 840/M17 where the keyboard is SO choked up on the chassis it feels like it is nearly RIGHT under the keyboard. I loved the central placing of the 1722's keyboard and the 1727 carries on that tradition but with a better keyboard that can only rock.
The review also noted the excellent chassis temps when using it which also is a strong point of the 1722 chassis. Under full load, that thing was so cool to the touch it was amazing.
Notebookcheck noted the fan noise at idle, but Charles's review said at idle it was near quiet which would be more in line with how the 1722 ran. It wasn't till under a decent load that you could really start to hear the fan. While gaming (Let's say, oh, WoW), the fan made a very quiet "whoosh," which was hardly noticeable at all.
As always, the other thing I love about the 172X chassis is the sturdy, LIGHT form factor for a 17" notebook. I recently replaced my daughter's 1722 with a Sager/Clevo 570 and she immediately noticed the extra bulk and size of the notebook along with the noise while gaming. -
As i say, i sleep with my machine on, running video encoding for half the night its really quiet, and when i wake up, it sounds like its nearly off.
I still love the keyboard because backslash is near enough next to forward slash and i login to outlook servers all the timemy keyboard hasn't gotten greasy yet, the machine is used every day for long periods of time, and the touchpad isn't wearing down anymore?.
Charles' review had one core randomly spike to 86 though so i dont know what happened there? If it was in single core mode it should have been cooler, and the other cores of the i7 when running multithread were at 7* something lol. -
So bottom line, unless the keyboard on the new chasis is noticeably worse than that on the 1722, don't write the laptop off just because of the keyboard.
-
I will place my own review for the MS-1727 on line in just a few days.
Any requests about the model, specs, benchmark or other please feel free to send me an PM.
@electrosoft, yes i have the notebook including the smaller brother MS-1656 just on my desk to get the review done and send it off to be tested for the European market. -
Great news Rep, i look forward to it.
-
Hey, I just recieved my new GT740 and I must say, I love it!
I was just wondering if it would be possible to use a 64bit OEM windows 7 home premium, as a friend of mine has one lying around.
The noise can get a little annoying and the placement of the exhaust isn't that great (it faces your hand if you're right handed), but just turn the volume up and get used to it.
The keyboard is fine, and I believe you can map the keys if you really hate the fn-ctrl layout.
PS: Would it be possible to underclock/lower the voltage of the i7? The BIOS options are really limited! -
I just love the matte surface of the MS 1727... It is simply the best looking material of all! ( Has little sparkles added to it so that it looks really professional. )
For the i7 overclocking.. I really have no idea..
BIOS simply has nothing we could touch.
I did tweak the 250m through the nVidia control panel..
but i really can't seem to find where to OC the i7.
If you find it tell me
and welcome to the forum -
Are you willing to do some benchmark tests.
Upload some pics. -
I was going to do some benchmarks anyway, so if you need some I'd happily post them.
I found some tool on these forums called ThrottleStop, it allows you to underclock but not undervolt (as far as I know), you might want to try it out.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=5637647#post5637647.
I'm pretty sure the i7 would be happy with lower voltages and it would probably lower the temps... if only MSI would let us -
well it wouldn't be a harm to run benchmarks.
What do you need?
Except for the fact that I actually don't have crysis.. or other games thereof.
I only play occasional warcraft III TFT, tomb raider series,
and all that.. so if you need me for any benchmarks I am available with the resources I have hands on -
Well after a day or two working with this notebook it still amazes me sometimes.
The resolution is really great, the text is just big enough to read and you have plenty of space. I moved from a 15" desktop so I don't know how others feel about the screen. It's certainly a big improvement for me
The fan noise is there, but not annoying, when you're just working you probably won't notice it unless the fan speeds up or slows down.
battery life is definitely very good, I'm on energy-saving settings now, with the laptop on my lap, the notebook doesn't feel hot at all and according to windows i've got 2 hours and 30 minutes left on a 76% battery.
HDTune results were as expected, with an average of 80MB/s and acces times of 17ms.
I have yet to put the laptop under some load, but I'm pretty sure it will handle it just fine.
If you're still in doubt, just order one, you won't be dissapointed!
PS: i installed a 64bit version of windows 7, but the eco and media buttons refuse to work, the other touch buttons work just fine. Am I missing a driver or something? -
-
Today i received the XNB Dominator MNI17 which is delivered by XNOTEBOOKS and based on the MSI Whitebook MS-1727 ID1.
The notebook is delivered for test purpose and review only.
So be patience the review will be on line soon!!!!! -
If the other touch buttons work fine it could be the firmware?
-
I just installed the system monitor and the problem is solved, although I wish we could configure it.
I downloaded the empire total war demo yesterday, and it runs smooth at high settings (AA on low though), but I have yet to play a sea battle
EDIT: Fallout 3 runs great on high! although I prefer to lower a few settings so the fan stays below a certain speed. -
Guys I have an OC' question...
Even if I play rigorous games for hours, the GPU Temp won't even hit 70.
It's really low around 65 degrees.. which I doubt is even close to harmful.
But then if I try to overclock some more, the graphics test 3Dmark06 will terminate....
Is there some other factor that might be causing this?
I know there are more rooms for overclocking potentials,
but then it somehow won't........
anybody have any ideas how to stretch the oc even more? -
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
When OC, use other programs for testing. 3dmark06 can be a very touchy program. It will crash for a variety of reasons, even if the oc is stable in every other program in existence.
-
-
Well pretty cool news here, I managed to overclock my 250m pretty high, and i think it could go even higher!
core/mem/shader
Stock clocks: 450/790/1080
OC clocks : 535/1020/1284
3dmark05:
stock : 14447
OC : 16169
overclocked scores are a tiny bit higher than a GeForce 9800M GTX SLI, according to notebookcheck's tests.
Temps were OK I suppose (max temps, from hwmonitor)
core 0: 72
core 1: 69
core 2: 73
core 3: 70
gpu : 63
I'm using GPUTool to overclock, works great, although the built-in stabilitytest sucks, could go to 550 core clock there, but the nvidia driver would crash when gaming.
@Meraki, 3dmark05 works fine -
Mine is at 550/810/1330
But then it would crash in Furmark as well.
I have no idea why.
I'll try out your settings again. -
Every GPU is different, so it could be that my settings won't work for you. Overclocking the memory is the greatest performance gain you can get. Lower your core clock so you're sure that isn't the cause of a crash, then (while gaming) slowly increase the memory speed (I'm talking 10Mhz per 5 minutes). Don't go too fast, as it won't instantly crash when you increase the clock.
I found overclocking this 250M harder than my desktop card, as it wouldn't show any artifacts, instead it would just crash after a couple of minutes gaming.
Nice SSD by the way! -
Though they hit a temp-never-before-on-my-250m of 85degrees LOL
Do you have any methods of making this permanent?
the overclocks via the nvidia control panel had loaded automatically after boot up,,
but this utility won't and I have to run them, load the quick clocks, and then apply every time I turn on my computer...
Any ideas?.. -
-
85 degrees Celsius!? That is pretty hot! I'm not sure if the cooling on your notebook is much different from the gt740, but I don't think you should want to have them permanent.
As far as I know GPUTool doesn't have a apply-at-boot option so you'll have to use a different app for that. I just like GPUTool because it's lightweight and straight to the point.
EDIT: I ran 05 because that's what I though that would be a good way to compare some scores. I don't really mind though, as pretty much all of my games run on the highest settings -
Mine never hit over 65 degrees, but then once I ran it,
it showed temps unseen before! -
I suppose it's fine then, as long as it doesn't hit those temps when gaming
.
Did you manage to get the memory clock any higher than 1020? -
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
85 is high, but it's not "OMG it's going to die any minute now!" If it's like nvidia's past cards, it can survive up to 100 or 105 before slowing/shutting down.
Agree that 3dmark05 is kind of outdated. There's a lot of free benchmarkers, like street fighter, resident evil 5, stalker, etc. -
But i have to go to class right now, so i couldn't push it any further.
The temp is around 86 degrees now,
and I don't know if i'll push it any higher than 1050.. i'll try just for fun. -
Meh, just found out that the overclock wasn't entirely stable, the nvidia kernel module driver crashed after about 2 hours of gaming... trying a memclock of 1010 now.
-
the battery life is amazing..........................
on power saver mode,
it went on over 3 hours.
Simply amazing.
It lasted through about 2 and a half classes..... WOW.
I am even loving my lappy even more
Everybody asks me where I got this, cuz it looks really high end and professional without the fingerprint magnet glossy surfaces....
The matte with the pearl finish is simply as perfect as it could get.....
Just wanted to comment on the battery, guys!
It goes over 3 hours with light web surfing and notetaking....
WOW.
( Hmm,
My OC is stable, it runs furmark flawlessly for 20 minutes, stable temps and all that..
Wonder what could be wrong.. ) -
What drivers are you using?
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
What are temps like after 20 min of Prime95, 8 core, Max heat for the CPU?
-
I'm getting approx 81 degrees after about 15-20 minutes on core #2 (the third core), which has always been the hottest one for me. It stays just below the highest fanspeed so I don't think there's a risk of overheating
.
Idle temps are great so far, about 43C when browsing, mainly because the CPU speed is lowered to about 900Mhz, gaming will only get it to 70C, underclocking the CPU can lower the temps, setting the multiplier to 12x or even lower (basically disabling turboboost) will leave enough power for most games (total war, fallout 3) while decreasing the fan noise.
EDIT:
After 25 minutes of prime95 (maximum heat, 8 threads). Ambient temperatures were somewhat low (18C)
EDIT2: Looks like the core clock was too high, got my memory at 1050 without a crash so far (core at 520, to be sure)
EDIT3: Just downloaded and ran 3dmark06, and ended up with a score of 8899, which proves how little I know about benchmarking
8899 is just above the 9800M GS and just below the 9800M GTS. The GDDR3 memory is definitely bottlenecking the card.
My final clockrates were 535/1045/1272
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html -
Still no real world benchmarks how disappointing.
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Those are great temps for Prime95 max heat, 8 thread. The more I read the review here and individual reports, the more notebookcheck's review is just not valid. They were reporting load temps of near 100 on the cores.
-
I actually got some "real world benchmarks" for fallout 3, don't have the results here but I'll post them tomorrow. Average on high settings was like 50fps (fallout won't go higher than 60...).
EDIT: I'll download and run the benchmarks listed on the previous page tomorrow.
And yeah, I share your opinion on notebookcheck's review, that cinema pro stuff does actually make a difference, at least I noticed it in the demo of empire total war, the noise isn't bad at all and I got used to the ctrl-fn keys within two days.
The only thing that I had a slight problem with is the smaller than usual spacebar, but that was easily "fixed" by mapping one of the mouse buttons on the mouse to spacebar, problem solved AND you actually make use of those extra buttons (I never did). -
@Rorschach: Ready for some realworld benchmarks
@electrosoft: for some reason the review @ NBC isn't correct, pre production model or setup wasn't 100% operational.
Upload for screens which will display the bench results are almost up. -

Looks good. I personally don't like the revisions to the touchpad buttons & touch sensor panel, but I can't really judge until I see!
I also noticed the RAM has changed position drastically, I think the north bridge used to be there? It looks like it could be a little too close to the GPU and CPU, but thats just my speculation. And the GPU has changed orientation but maybe thats just because its an nvidia card. Also, why does the GPU heatsink only have one copper pipe?
Can't wait for more benchmarks, i.e. Crysis, Fallout 3, Stalker etc. -
Hmm, no x64... I suppose I'll stick with the nvidia drivers.
EDIT: Whoops, never mind, I only found the thread on these forums about the BETA release, I'm now downloading the driver -
woo looks nice RePaRaQu keep the benchmarks coming.

I would definitely trade "down" to the BTY-M67 6-Cell battery and take the battery life hit gladly. This new trend of batteries either sticking out the back or from the bottom doesn't work for me.
