Weird. My bios isn't UEFI. It's a regular bios. I haven't updated it yet, though..

I thought I enabled it in BIOS (under usb). What do you mean on Battery Mode? I've tried it both plugged and unplugged, same with battery management (power saver, high performance) etc..

Maybe I'm running a first-gen bios or something.

    Hi guys,

I play World of warcraft 3 on my gt60 249us and within 5 minutes of playing my GPU temp is 84degree celsius without the fan and 70-72 with the fan on.

Is that considered normal or too high ? I put the world of warcraft graphic settings on high, just below ultra and get a great 94 fps during the game. I used gpu-z to measure the temp.

That sounds fine. The GPU is configured to not start speeding up the cooling fans until about that temp (depending on Bios). It certainly will not hurt it.

Ya I get around the same temps when gaming without the fan. This is why I always use turbofan when im gaming because I always am on Ultra or high settings. I dont think there is a problem with using turbofan so much? I was suprised my temps were so high I had seen many people saying they never got over 70 but I was able to hit 82-85 a few times.

Honestly, I almost never use turbofan unless I am in a room over 80, and even them I am just being dumb. The system should slowly but surely get up to turbo fan speeds if required by temperatures. (I will admit I use it for benchmarking to be safe, but really almost never otherwise)

Hello everyone! I received my GT60 0NE-403US a few days back and so far have been enjoying it. I have a couple of questions I hope a few members can answer. This is my first post so please bear with me.

First off I would like to thank Gentech PC as they were the best choice and very helpful; A++ to those guys.

I have my own copy of Windows 8 Pro so I wiped the HD and clean installed that. Updated Windows and installed the stock drivers/utilities that came from the included CD. Having done all that I downloaded 3DMark 11 (free edition with performance option 1280x720 res) and started a baseline.

First time through was a p6054. I decided to try some overclocking and copied what Ken had done on page 27. I fired up MSI afterburner and upped the core clock +135 and mem +170.

I actually got a lower score; a 5530. I reset everything back to stock and figured alright, I will try hitting the turbo button and run that.

5965 is what I received from that.

I have not tried any games yet as I have not had time due to work, but before I started installing I wanted to make sure my system is running properly.
    Driver/bios Specs:
    Windows 8 pro 16gb ram;
    Bios - E16f3ms.50t
    EC version - 16f3EMS1 503
    Nvidia driver - 306.14

So after reading almost every single page I feel concerned. I have seen members report baselines of p62XX and tweaked up to p7500. Have I incorrectly installed items? Is there something more I need to in order to achieve a better score? Is this an indicator of a broken machine?

Any help or feedback is appreciative!

I suspect you have the firmware and bios that still throttle. Search this thread and head head over to MSi's forum to find the new ones.

Meaker thanks! I tried what you said and reran 3Dmark11.

P6698 is what I see! The last test (both CPU/GPU) seemed to really chug though; almost stop then start repeat. I am happy with that score, I just wonder if a different nvidia driver will help.

    Any other tips? Bios, throttlestop?

So odd. I got my laptop yesterday, fired it up and I'm already having to use the win 8 "attempting repairs".

It would stall in the bootup, shoot me into the bios and then start up. Then a couple of times I would get this "start pxe over Ipv4" then "start pxe over ipv6" thing. I'm not a computer guy so I have no idea what the hell is going on. The only thing I did was download a new nvidea driver that it recommended I do.

It's been attempting repairs for 15 minutes.

Did you download a new driver through windows update or the nvidia site? I never recommend downloading windows update drivers for dedicated graphics.
    Assuming you repair, go to:
    Drivers | GeForce
and enter your information and download and install that driver.

Sounds like it is trying to boot through ethernet because it is not able to boot your hard drive.
You might need to reformat already, or maybe (hopefully not) your hard drive went bad.

I hope not. I tried to restart and it shows the MSI logo and one dot instead of that circling win8 thing. I downloaded the driver right from nvidia - it was one that was just released on December 17. Really pissing me off since this wasn't a cheap laptop. I'm going to try a full restore. I can get it to run after forcing a shutdown and then restarting. The utility says the drive is working fine.

I'm going to try a complete restore

    edit - I guess it's called a refresh.

Ok, the PXE thing is the network card trying to boot off the network. it is always there in the bios (unless you shut them off), however it might be after the hard drive in the boot order.
If you go into your bios, and into the boot section, you can change the boot order so the network boot is after the HD. and since you probably do not use PXE, you can also go in the bios to the network cards setup and turn off PXE booting for them.

I am not totally sure you need to refresh yet. Ignore the PXE stuff, if it boots up outside of safe mode and you get windows 8 you are fine.

    Windows Recovery Environment

Your PC needs to be repaired

The operating system couldn't load because the kernel is missing or contains errors.

    File: \WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
    Error code: 0xc00000e9

is that? I couldn't do a refresh because of this.

Any idea how to do a full reinstall? The only thing I have is the MSI disc they sent me which I assume has the full copy of win8 on it. I've never had to do this with any PC I've owned, never mind one with one day of use on it.

I'll try to find this out first. Frustration level is rising.

This is too complex to comment on in a forum post. I would contact Gentech (I see you bought it from them), and ask for help. If that does not do it talk to a local friend who works on computers (or friend of a friend) and offer Pizza and Beer.

However, don't get too frustrated. these things happen. You have only had one real thing go wrong so far. and it could have been something as outlandish as a cosmic ray passed through your hard drive and wiped a few bits it needed. (not a joke, it happens)

Well I decided to install the latest nvidia driver and reran 3Dmark 11- - recieved lower scores p59xx - p6000. Tried overclocking and received another p57xx far from my p66xx (must have been a fluke).

Overclocking must not be working properly. I read about that bios but I am scared to attempt as I do not wish to brick. Any other suggestions?

I'm trying a reset instead of a refresh and see if that helps. I'm assuming it gets rid of the MSI drivers but I have them on the disc provided. If the drastic reset doesn't work I'll get a hold of them to see what they can do.

My friends are in law enforcement or engineers and not a computer tech geek amongst them. Worse comes to worse I can always take it to the geek squad and say "reinstall windows" and be done with it. Sending it back to the factory would take weeks I think.

    *crossing fingers this works*

Please don't take it to geek squad (Please don't scold me if you work for geek squad)

You will need to make sure that the MSI disc has windows on it, and is not just a driver disk...

Go in your BIOS and check to make sure that your DVD drive is listed as #1 for boot priority, if not, set it.
Insert your Windows disc and restart your computer.
You will see some message displayed telling you to press any key to boot off your disc, so press something.

Once the setup loads, you can keep pressing install/next until you see this page.
    http://cdn.ttgtmedia.com/rms/comput...nstall-upgrade-or-custom-advanced-version.jpg

Hit Custom. You will see this page.
    http://cdn.thenextweb.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/2012/08/windows-7-partition.jpg

Click on your main drive with Windows.
Hit delete, hit ok. (This will wipe your drive of all data!)
Hit new, and hit ok. (This will create 1 partition)
Hit format and hit ok. You may get a message box saying it will create an extra partition for the boot information. Hit ok.
Press next and let the install begin.

I don't work for them. I just haven't a clue who to go to for help. I checked and the disc only has the user manual, utilities and and a driver.

I'm so lost here. I'll contact MSI and see what I can do.

Boot from the CD (Either do it by tapping F10 during startup and select optical drive or press Delete and change the boot protocol to optical drive as #1). Follow instructions. Done
If you have OEM Win8 and not the system restore CD from MSI, I suggest after you have booted from the CD, you select "advanced" and delete all partitions you see. But only if you have the original Win8 CD and not the system restore. I`m saying this because if you delete all partitions while only have a system restore CD, you will delete the system restore backup from the HDD and the computer will not know what to do with the system restore CD.

If not Win8 CD, just follow instructions and do a clean install

I have done 2 clean installs now and cannot achieve a score better than P6021. I am kind of disappointed, I was looking forward to tinkering and slowly building my benchmark like the rest of you guys but it seems like this computer is having too many software/bios problems. I refuse to attempt the unofficial bios from the MSI forums as its either a hit or miss with performance and the possibility of bricking.

I mean how did someone hit P7500?? I will blow by it and attempt some games because maybe its an issue with 3DMark.

    Im facing the same problem.

I just rand 3dmark11 three times, two times with vsync off and 1 time with it on.

My results with vsync off were on average: Graphics Score 6100 , Phsycis score 7200. Combined score 4900. TOTal P6077

With Vysnc On: Graphics Score 5626 Physics Score 7200 Combined Score 4900 Total P5702

Im almost certain the picture throttles for just less than a second when the tests r rolling.

Whats the problem with my laptop ? I thought im gonna get a higher score, Im running Win8, i7 3740 processor on my GT60 one 249 US.

I read so much on this forum about updating bios and stuff but from my understanding my Win8 bios that comes installed is the latest one and its not supposed to throttle ? What can i do to solve this problem and increase my score and fix the throttling ? I

Im not a computer expert i would say im the average user, and i do notice it throttling for a millisecond when im playing world of warcraft. Any assistance will be appreciated . Thanks guys

I was referring to other people who did work for them :)

If you don't have the disc, you should at least have the product code that came with your laptop. Download windows on another computer and burn it.

I found this page online on how to download the ISO if you have product key. I have not tried it yet, as I don't have a product key.

I'll wait for Ken as he's been good with replying

I did a memtest and everything checked out but still have major issues with booting up.

Had an odd thing where the keyboard wouldn't light up and had to use the on screen keyboard to enter my password to log on to the computer. It still hangs though. Something is really messed up. I was never given the windows product key and there is no disk.

    Something is really messed up.

There is a hidden partition for system recovery so try this:

1: Press F3 when you see the MSI logo.

2: It will take you to recovery console.

    3: Click Troubleshoot.

    4: Click Reset your PC.

Did you install nVidia OC tool from the drivers DVD? if not the TDE won't function properly: Drivers DVD> AP > VGA OC > 12.06.0601 > Setup.exe

Oh wait, I missed that part, yes you wont get that option.

You can put the original back in and create restore disks, it's the first thing to do when receiving a system to be honest.

Out of pure laziness I got a recovery disk. Would it be possible to make a recovery partition on my HDD from that recovery disk?

I think you have to run it (in which case it will format everything and put the original OS and recovery partition in), you could always create an ISO of the disks and put it on a USB stick if you want a backup or create a 2nd copy of them.

Mine does the same thing. It may not be enough power to handle the computer and because of that throttling occurs.

Also I was able to achieve P6856 here:
    6856.jpg

What I did was hit the "Turbo" button, then in my system tray find the msi overclock tool icon - right click and disable it - fire up msi afterburner apply the overclock on page 27 and run 3DMark11.

I have not been able to reproduce that score the entire day so I am thinking another fluke.

I tried those clocks and followed the steps and could only get NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16F3 score: P6243 3DMarks

These are the highest, not sure which is the limiting factor.

It could be a number of things. I just know that I cannot get consistent results. I have not tried the Throttlestop software yet but that may solve the problem.

Keep playing around there might be some magic way to get everything to line up and work ha

It might be worth it to check out the gt70 thread and see what kind of issues/solutions they have.

I followed instructions and still cannot achieve a greater score than P60xx. My P6856 only happened once today and I was never able to reproduce it.

Ken, are your results consistant; if you run 3DMark 11 back to back will you always receive similar results? Also what Nvidia drivers are you using??
