ok.. Physx works with planetside 2 on windows 7 but not windows 8.. Thats dumb. I got almost everything working in windows 7 but my touchpad no longer allows the 2 finger scroll and in device manager there is a unknown device. the unknown device has a hardware id of "acpi\kb9xradiobtn" i think. Does anyone know what that could be? Could it be that i have the Beta EC firmware?

Also, do i need to install the Nvidia VGA OC thing? I have the modded 680 bios and i use msi afterburner to overclock it?

Sorry for the two posts in a row.. well, three now. I got the touchpad working correctly by installing the windows 8 touchpad drivers.

No problem.. I just wish i would have done this the first day I got this GT60. I have had 0 issues with windows 7 x64 on this laptop. Everything works the way it should. It should have came with windows 7 on it already.

You can force to use the dedicaed GPU for everything but no way of actually disabling it. There are 0 benefits to disabling it, and it hardly impacts performance due to optimus being enabled. What's the reason you want to disable it?

I've been following your directions for installing the beta EC, but when I go to restart the computer ignores the fact I chose to boot from the USB drive and continues on normally. Does anyone have any suggestions? The USB drive is a FAT32 formatted 8GB Lexar with absolutely nothing on it prior to the files extracted from the dos folder from the RAR file and whatever UNetbootin files were put on it. I'm completely lost because I've tried everything including the MSIHQ USB bootable tool. I've also tried another USB drive with the same result. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I've tried 3 different USB drives with the same result. Maybe I'm not putting the files on the USB correctly? I use winrar to extract the files from the folder "dos" in the rar file downloaded from msihq to the USB drive without being in a folder on the drive I think that's the root if I'm not mistaken

I need some help with applying thermal paste for the GPU and CPU heatsinks in my MSI GT 60 ONE. Was getting high temps when gaming so heck why not :p The thermal compound which I purchased and will be delivered shortly is IC Diamond 24 Carat Thermal Compound 4.8g. If someone could please post some instructions on how to do so or direct me somewhere will be greatly appreciated :D

There are a number of youtube videos that you can find online but application method will vary and depend on who you're asking. This is the method I was taught and have always used with good results.

    Thermal Compound Application

    Good day gentlemen,

this is my first post on these forums, so I hope you can help me out.

I've only recently purchased an Msi GE70 and I'm still getting used to it. I've bought an msata SSD and just finished reinstalling windows and all the drivers. There's one thing that's bugging me though; the GE70 has 4 speakers, correct? When I open the Realtek HD software, however, the only option I have is STEREO, not Quadrophonic. I've been googling for about 20 minutes but it's very hard to find any specific information about this issue, so I thought I'd ask you guys. I've installed the THX TruStudio, though I don't suppose that has anything to do with it. Any idea what's up and what I can do to fix it?

I'd recommend you ask here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/723618-official-msi-ge70-2013-owners-lounge.html since they have more experience with the GE series :)

Thanks, I accidentally posted it here because I thought Google had brought me to the GE60/70 thread.
However, I suppose the issue would be the same on the GT70, no? Since it also has the same speakers? The GE60 thread seems to be ignoring my post :/

The GT series has a dynaudio speaker system that are some of the best on the market and are not in the GE series.

Is this a sloppy job for thermal pasting? This is the original pasting by MSI. I think it's pretty bad considering an excess was applied therefore not being efficient at it's job. This would explain why the GPU would throttle when it would hit 80-90 C. Anyone else experience bad pasting? Look at that thermal pad :p

Yep, I've seen many complaints about the factory paste job (excess).

Just repaste and you're good to go :)

The GPU throttles at 91-93 C, if it does that before, then you need to flash your vbios and EC to prevent throttling. Look at the main post (FAQ Section) for installation instructions. :)

Okay, so the GTs have fancier speakers, they still have 4 of them that are powered by Realtek, right?
Can you see all four of your speakers in the Realtek software? Because all I see is this:

Factory pasting is always of the opinion that too much is better than too little, yes it's not optimal but it will work.

Re: ***The Official MSI GT 60 w/GTX-680M Owner’s Lounge***

    Hi Folks,

    I've got a GT60, I upgraded my 680m bios this way :

    - Beta EC from MSI forums 16F3EMS1.T17 (got Windows 8)
    - svl7's unlocked MSI 680m - 80.04.33.00.24_'OCedition'_revised_02

I'm starting to crash during the 3DMark 11 test if I go further than 220/500 in afterburner (with Turbo on). (I get a 7017 score with these values)

I'm reading that people can get easy to 320/500.

What should I check/change to reach this cap ? Do I need to raise the voltage ?

    Thanks.

This may be a stupid question but I never claimed to be the most intelligent. I bought my GT60 0NE back in Feb. of this year. I haven't had any problems with it at all but I started running FRAPS to see my frame rates. I just began playing WOW and I am only running 25 to 30 FPS that seems a little low considering my wife's generic Vaio runs mid 40's. I have added a screen shot from Speccy. Please tell me if there is some setting I need to change. I bought this laptop because it was supposed to be very fast out of the box and I am just not seeing a huge increase over my old Qosmio which by the way my son constantly run's minecraft at 70 FPS on far and fancy but I only get mid 30's.

You're likely running on battery and/or the iGPU. In the Nvidia control panel under 3D settings you'll want to specify in the program settings to run those games with the high performance option. You should see a remarkable increase in framerates.

Good to hear! That definitely sounds a bit more like what you should be getting. Can't let your kid have better framerates than you after all.

    Thanks for your answer.

I made some tries with the 1.050v bios for the MSI GT60.

I managed to get 300/500 running (200/500 max previously). But at the end, I end up with a 6400 3dMark11 score instead of 7200 !!!

How can I get a lower score with 100 more Mhz on the core clock ?

Do I need to get a 230W power supply ?

Edit : I've tried with/without Throttlestop, no difference.

I am having an issue with my laptop again.. I have two of these usb adapter cables and for some reason when I plug them both in, only one is recognized.. Doesn't matter which ports I plug them into either. But my cheap dell and my MacBook can see both of them like normal..

Any clues as to what could cause this?

Well check your CPU/GPU temps and track their frequencies, then post up pictures of this info if it confuses you.

Can't help you tweak if there is no info to go on.

Hello everyone. New member here. I have the 680M version and reformatted it. Bought the unit from a friend who rarely used it. Need some help. What driver version is the best for the gpu and what settings should I choose in the Nvidia Control Panel? Lastly, I am a complete noob and do not plan to overclock/change bios. Are there any basic tweaks which I can apply to get the most out of the laptop? Thanks!

Latest beta drivers will do just fine, leave the nvidia control panel as is and if you are not very familiar with PC games you can use the geforce experience application (included in the latest drivers) to set recommended detail levels for your card.

My advice is to try some games to see if you need to tweak it.

When you update BIOS and EC firmware, be sure to get only the same version, like 5.xx to 5.xx, or 7.xx to 7.xx.
There is a scripted batch file in the BIOS package called FLASHWIN.BAT that allows you to update BIOS in Windows.
As for EC firmware, you can double-click on either Autoflash or Winflash to proceed.
You may be prompted by UAC to proceed or not.

I tried opening the file and it did not install. Said that it doesn't match the windows version. I downloaded it from the link provided in the first post.

I have an issue with heating while playing games. Was playing Shogun 2 and temps reach 90 degrees even at medium settings. I seriously am frustrated at this point since I keep having to stop playing every 20 minutes. I have tried lowering it to medium, even low. Still heats up. Running 331.82 driver version. I don't know what else to do. I even have a cooling pad and have slightly raised the read end of the laptop for more ventilation. Please help me. Thank you.

It sounds like your system would benefit from a re-application of the thermal paste and some fresh thermal pads.

Clean up your heatsink and vent (if using a vacuum do not conduct direct contact with circuit board), and wipe existing and reapply thermal paste. Use reasonable amount only, do not over-apply.

Merry Christmas everyone. What is the proper way to update my drivers? I recall using the DVD included to load all drivers. I assume those are all outdated. Is there a specific sequence. Looking at this option to solve my heating issues. I recall prior to reformat, it did not heat up as much as it does now.

Also, when switching on the TURBO button, I do not see any change in the clockspeeds memory speeds in CPUZ. I do not think it works for me? How can I check this?

    Thank you for your inputs.

Same on my GT70 from the first start - it just rose the memory speed from 1800 to 1854, a tiny and meaningless change which doesn't happen anymore when upgraded from 8.0 to 8.1.

It changed the video ram speed? I don't remember it doing that.

But you can use GPU-Z sensors to track core clock speed changes.

Yes, pretty useless as I can go up to about 2500 with MSI Afterburner. And without Turbo pressed my core speed actually goes down to 757 from the default 771. So as an overclocking system really useless, MSI Afterburner for example is a totally different beast.

I have cleaned and re applied thermal paste. Bought the coolermaster brand. What is best to use in the future? Still get temps of about 80 - 90 degrees even with TurboFan ON. Updated driver to latest Nvidia as well. The game is SHOGUN2. I made sure i cleaned all old thermal paste applied. Please let me know what else I need to do to get temps between 75 - 80 degrees while gaming. These temps are reached around 15 - 20 mins into playing.

Hey zip! Only one avail in my area is HTK-002 High Performance Thermal Compound Kit. Is the Gelid GC Extreme any better than the one I applied? That is also available in my area.

I think Gelid must have an edge as it's the best one in the review - and HTK-002 is discontinued and probably not up to date. But Gelid needs careful applying as it's quite stiff - best to warm to 100+ F in a pot of water, sealed in a water-tight pouch. Needs to be pressed firmly.

OK, after some digging found the specs, Gelid has at least twice the thermal conductivity compared to HTK.

I was able to get a hold of Arctic Cooling MX2 thermal compound. I believe this is still better than the HTK. I did not see any improvement since applying the HTK. :( Hopefully MX2 will do the job.
