Ordering mine tomorrow, but can't get it till around dec 20th as I'm going to FL then.
My changes are
No HDD, as I have a 750gb momentus XT
Intel 6235, as I want Widi
IC Diamond thermal paste, as it's better
And the free 16gb ram upgrade
Only a bit more than a month left with the w860cu! -
He called me to tell me the shipment came in right as their shipper got there, and I had 30 seconds to decide if I wanted to get it shipped overnight to get it in the morning, and have one of the first handfull, or perhaps the first.. in the US. Eh, might as well! He got it out in time, it will be here in 8.5 hours or less as of this message.
I don't game very much, but I do have a copy of deus ex hr and got assassin's creed 3 with the ssd (for free). I'll see what I can do to just transfer win8 to the ssd for testing.
I've already downloaded all the newest drivers/software for win7 and windows 8 from the msi site for a clean install. I'm currently downloading all the 'normal' programs you install on a new computer so I can just mass install..
Stay tuned for a bunch of pictures / videos tomorrow.
A new thing I do to my consumer electronics is use helicopter tape. It's an abrasion resistant clear tape. It's also used on race cars, and a slightly different forumlation is used as 'chip guards' on the bumpers, leading edge of the hood, headlights, and back bumper of newer cars (usually as a several hundred dollar option). It's also used on race cars to help hold things in place as it's amazingly strong. It's also used in protecting carbon fiber items from wear like on bicycles and other cf sporting equipment.
It's pretty pricey, but lasts for months and months in hard-use, so in electronics use it will last years before needing replacement. I did my 2nd gen ipod with it and the edges never peeled, even over the circle touchpad, or anywhere. So stay tuned, I'll probably make a video on the proper way to apply it! At the very least the lid will get done, along with screen bezel, and palmrests. I'll probably do the bottom of the laptop too, depending on how much time I have to properly cut out all the vent holes etc.
On my other laptops, I use it to hold fine mesh over the fan intake and exhaust, to keep hair and other large things from being ingested. In my cars, the a-pillar kickpanels get it also, since they always get beat up!
Sorry for the novel, I'm a bit excited! Some time during this month I'll probably take it apart to put new thermal paste and a few other tricks I use to keep everything running smoothy. Like thin strips of helicopter tape over every connector/clasp etc!
Edit: Slang is helicopter tape. It's actual name is 3m Polyurethane protective tape. It's _expensive_ but lasts years on aircraft and vehicle applications. It provides abrasion, puncture, and impact protection! You could cover the soles of your shoes with this stuff and get pulled down the block sliding on it, and it would look exactly the same. It's aerospace-grade stuff, so it's extremely expensive. But spending $100 ensuring your laptop can't be scratched and help repel water, protect it from UV radiation, and help absorb impacts.. it's worth it. Even all aluminum laptops get the anodizing rubbed off from being put in a laptop bag/backpack within a few months. This will stop that 100%! -
About bugging Ken @ GentechPC... Yeah, I did that too, hahahaha... Because in my case I have to get that monster in Oz before Dec 20th, as I'll go back for good to my home country.
Mine will ship on Monday (wish he can send it tomorrow instead, hahaha), so I hope it can get here early Dec...
Thank you, Ken!!! -
Just an update for all...
As of right now here is what I have been able to gather on GT60 680 presales...
Gentech- Has received GT60's as of yesterday, no gt70s yet
Xoticpc- Has not received any yet--said expects shipment Monday or Tuesday next week.
New egg-and other online retailers-Still saying next week
It does appear that Gentech was first to receive maybe saying they get priority in new shipments? Wish I ordered mine from them..Oh well..next week will do.
Keep us updated on your shipments gentech customers! -
Well, mine came in late. I ordered it priority overnight 10:30am delivery.
UPS f'ed up and delivered it at 6pm. At least I'm getting a refund for shipping price.
I'm about to get setup and record the unboxing / lots of pictures / review.
Along with installing extra ram and ssd. I'll open my own thread here pretty soon. -
Awesome
Can you let me know how multitouch works? That'd b awesome!
Edit
Ordered -
Good enough place as any for a first post I guess...
Ordered my 249 yesterday and it's expected to arrive Tuesday or Wednesday. I have an Intel 520 series SSD and 16gb of 1866mhz memory waiting for this beast when it gets here. So excited! -
Best Buy has changed the web page and it shows up in the normal laptop section. Nowinstock.com had it in stock for a few minutes, so I think the first order must have come in yesterday.
If any of you resellers are wondering about my hang up on buying from Best Buy it's due to me being in Alaska and the free 2nd day air shipping I get through Best Buy. Also if there are any problems, returns are easy and I don't have to pay $75-100 to ship it back for repairs or returns, I just drive to my local store. If I were buying custom it would be different, but the stock 0NE-249US model is fine for me. -
Does anyone know why im having my GPU at max clocks at idle? It idles at 700mhz core clock and 1800mhz memory clock at 0% gpu usage.
I've tried installing new drivers but it is still stuck at max clocks on idle. -
How long does it usually take between ordering a customized laptop from GentechPC and receiving it home with a standard shipping?
-
GentechPC is well-known for its super fast customization process (usually takes 1-2 days to customized the laptop, depends on the availability of the selected components ofc).
And, Ken have just sent me an email telling me that my new laptop has been picked up by USPS!!!!
Oh, the joy!!! -
Just got my MSi GT60 notebook,
Do SSD OCZ Vertex 4 (240GB) Compatible with it? -
No reason that it wouldn't.
-
-
-
Thanks Ken! -
Thx for posting, Ken
And thanks for giving me the Borderlands 2 coupon code along with the laptop purchase:thumbsup:
-
I'm still confuse on which to pick with these two SSDs... Which one is more compatible with it? -
Could i put these in raid 0 or can i upgrade to super raid 0 if i didn't take the option?
Seagate Momentus XT ST750LX003 2.5" 750GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Solid State Hybrid Drive -
Got mine in yesterday (a day earlier than expected) and have been loving it all day. One question though, does anyone have any advice on removing the spec sticker? I just want it gone but it seems pretty firmly stuck on there.
-
Use a hairdryer to soften the adhesive. Then you can use some rubbing alcohol and napkins to gently dissolve/rub it away.
-
-
The maingear 15inch laptop based on the gt60 barebone has super raid as an option.
-
Just as a heads up, excaliberpc.com has the MSI GT60 0NE-249US in stock at the moment. I haven't been able to find anyone else with these in stock currently, so I thought I'd let others know if they have also been looking.
http://www.excaliberpc.com/621290/msi-gt60-0ne-249us-15.6-gaming.html
I just ordered mine after calling to confirm they were actually in stock, and there aren't many left already... -

Forgot to say it came to $2500 with all the upgrades..had to get windows pro because of the ram upgrade over 16gb so that was an extra 135 I really didnt want to spend but oh well. Its going to be a beast.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
What do you need 24GB of ram for?
-
Because it was a free upgrade.. if u spend over 2400 u get 24gb for free. I would have never gotten it otherwise.
-
Update: the USPS tracking said that "The Beast" has arrived in Australia. Just couple more days till I can tinker with "The Beast" xD
*dancing round and round* -
I live in South America and I'm going to Minneapolis next year for a few days.
I'm thinking about buying one and getting it shipped to my hotel room. I just have to plan it so it doesn't get there too early or too late.
How long does shipping usually take? -
When did u place ur order cozy? I ordered mine 11/12 from xoticpc. They called and left me message that they were getting it in last wefnesday but now its Monday and there telling me they don't even know when I get a.different answer with every person I speak to. Not the best service so far...!
-
No I haven't I'm suppose to get a email back from my sales rep this afternoon and let me know what's going on. There's a few websites that have them in stock now and I may have to resort to that if I domy get some solid info soon. I understand its back ordered but I just want good communcatipm and they called me last week saying it was coming in that day.
-
I'm the same as firefdr. Gonna pass Christmas and New Years with family in the US, couldn't save up enough to buy this beast of a machine. Guess I'll have to make do with the GX60, still a great notebook, but nothing compared to this one. Oh well, good bye GT60. it was nice while the dream lasted =)
-
I tried posting this questions on the xoticpc forums but got not response. Maybe you guys can help me out here:
I have a MSI GT60 w/680M which I have had for a couple of months now. While gaming, I have seen temperatures go up to 78C - 85C. 85 is the max I have seen once and generally it goes up to a max of 83C. As I understand it, these temperatures are not bad, but I still plan on getting an external cooler.
I have been trying to figure out the Air flow system in the GT60. I can easily tell that the hot air is being blown out the left side and the back also. I am unable to figure out where the air is being sucked in from. Is air being sucked in from the bottom? or from the top keyboard area? or both? Depending on the answer to this question, I can get the relevant cooler. I don't want to end up getting a cooler which works against the inbuilt air flow system. Also, any suggestions for a cooler on the market would be nice. Especially from current MSI GT60 owners.
Thanks in advance for any answers. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Both, air is sucked in through the keyboard and the bottom vents. Coolers don't tend to help as there is plenty of venting.

Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Is the fan table writer working on these systems?
-
Called back to XoticPC and left a message but never got a call back from anyone or an email as promised. Not very happy with my communication with them so far. Would expect more when I'm spending $2500 with them. As I stated earlier there are many companies that have the GT60 249US in stock and are available to ship so I'll give it another day or two and see if I get a decent response. I ordered on 11/12, how fast is Gentech shipping out there MSI Gt60s?? Anyone know?
-
), shipped from US on 11/19.
Can't express how good the service and communication from GentechPC (Ken, in particular) -
Thats awesome man yah I've heard nothing but good things about Gentech. I still am going to cross my fingers with XoticPC they seem like a good company I'm hoping its just because of the holidays and what not. I'm just a little upset I got the call last week saying its coming in today and they processed my order and reviewed my credit card for payment. Then they were closed Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sunday. And today I was told they would come in and my sales person Josh would call me back and I never got a call or email like he promised. So im like . Just keeping your word in my book is good business. I hope to hear something tomorrow. I paid $50 extra for priority which they said meant you get priority over the orders before you if they didnt pay for that service. Thats why I got it! Im tempted to order from a company that has it in stock but I want to have a reputable company and not some sketchy website. We will see if I get a response tomorrow.
-
GenTech always told me what happened in their production line (Ken even teased me when he said he had my laptop in front of him ready to be customized).
And on normal days, we would exchange emails talking about things in general. That's how good the communication is with GenTech.
Priority order from GenTech is also good (idk the details, tho), you probably can ask areet as I believe he asked for a super fast shipment, and indeed he's the first to receive the beast from GenTech.
I wish the best for you, man. Hopefully it's not something major. Meanwhile, being patient is always a good way to cooperate with the supplier.
Cheers! -
