It's not really a tool (I assume you are pressing the turbo button on the touch bar) it's all done in the background and brings your graphics card up to speed (and lets MSI afterburner change the clocks without any changes).

Thanks.....LOL I confused it with the MSI Afterburner tool!!!!! Thanks for the quick reply.

Oh the agony.
I am stuck waiting until Monday afternoon to get my laptop. I tried to pick it up from the UPS warehouse today and skip delivery, but the pickup desk is not open on the weekends. -
Ok so I tested BF3 on the new vBIOS ken linked, and it still throttles
-
BETA EC for GT60 (16F3) & GT70 (1762)
I tested it and it fixed the CPU throttling issue and the new vBIOS I posted doesn't cap the overclocking capability. -
I benchmarked my new GT60 249us lastnite and was able to get a 6276 in 3dMark11 with no OC and no Turbo. Is this good? I wonder what I'll be able to get if i overclock the GPU and CPU. I noticed there are a lot of scores higher with the GTX680 but also many lower. What are yall getting on yours?

Hi all,
Been looking at this laptop as well as the Sager NP9150. I'm a bit concerned with some of the things I've been hearing about issues with this particular Sager, so I'm taking a hard look at this MSI. I'm coming from an ASUS G53JW with an i7 Q740, 8GB of RAM and a GeForce GTX 440M, and I have no previous experience with MSI (prior to my ASUS, my only laptops were low-end Dells).
Are there any "gotchas" with the MSI GT60, or is it a really solid gaming and entertainment laptop I can look forward to using for the next 3+ years?
Thanks! -
I had and returned a Clevo P9150EM (Sager rebadges it). It worked well, but the keyboard was a bit weird and there were some build quality issues. The top edge of the keyboard/wrist rest area is ridiculously sharp, the bezel around my screen was a poor fit, only 1 2.5" drive, and it was more expensive.
If you compare the base model Clevo/Sager 9150 to the MSI GT60 0NE-249 model many features are the same. The GT60 also has the Killer wired LAN, matte screen, 12GB RAM, BluRay writer, additional 2.5" bay, 2 year warranty (if you can get MSI to talk to you), and I found the price cheaper when I ordered my GT60.
As with any gaming laptop, you won't have the same performance as a desktop, but as you had a G53 (I had a G73JW) you'll understand it. The MSI is great, a bit flashy and glossy compared to the Asus and Sager/Clevo thought. The build seems well thought out and a bit higher quality workmanship. Only 1 fan unlike the Asus and Sager/Clevo models. The GT60 will be a noticeable jump in performance with the 680M compared to a 440M, huge in fact.
As for gotchas, I wish the Windows key was on the left side, I actually use it frequently, but the designers stuck it over there on the right since so many people whine that they hit it during a game. With a matte screen I noticed the glare is a bit bad in direct sun or bright lights. There are lots of people who say the Steel Series keyboard is hard to get used to, I actually returned my first GT60 0NE-220US model as some of the keys were hard to actually register. It seems the keyboard has gotten better though.
Overall I think the MSI is built better than the Sager/Clevo which is why I actually returned my 9150 and went back to MSI. It's not perfect, but I think it's the best of the extremely limited market of 3 brands with a 680M. (Dell, Clevo, MSI) -
The GT60 249us is the best gaming laptop ive ever used/seen. It has the feel of a desktop and is build incredibly well. I would not recommend anything but this now that I have one. I think u will be very happy with it. I personally love the keyboard and I prefer it over my other pcs and my macbook pros. I would not change a thing about this beast. The screen is amazing..I am glad I got the 95% gamut because it is amazing. It looks like my retina display on my 15' macbook pro. I am very satisfied with my gt60.
-
Could be wrong here, but it seems that the 0ne-249 doesn't have any of the issues that past gt60s have had?
I know that it's a small sample size so far, but everyone who already has one seems to be experiencing no problems what so ever. Where as when it came to past gt60 releases many people had bad keyboards, etc.
Let's hope I'm right! -
My keyboard works perfectly including space bar and I have no fan issues either. Iscored a 6276 on benchmark too. This thing plays all games on max settings like pie.

I'm looking for a good cooling pad for my GT6O does anyone know a good one that will work good for the fan design being on the left hand side. I'm looking for a quiet one too. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I'm getting a hard click from the hard drive every couple of minutes, I'm afraid that the HDD is failing
Any ideas? -
Backup?
Hard drive aren't that expensive now a days, so your data is the valuable part I guess. -
Just bought a GT60 today from GentechPC. I have no idea when it will arrive but I'm pretty excited to get my hands on it.

I just ordered MSI GT60-0NE-249US from excaliberPC. They had a couple in stock...i think they may have 1 left. I called GENTECH but as it looks like they are the main shop that ppl are ordering from they couldnt tell me if they had any in stock so it may take a week or longer. Doesnt look like any other vendors have them in stock yet and when i call they have no ETA...

Also, have you played absolution, far cry 3 or planet side 2 yet?
How do they all run?
3 weeks till I get my gt60. Pretty exciting. -
I have so far played BF3, COD Black Ops II, Absolution, and Borderlands 2. I am getting anywhere from 45-70 on BF3 on Ultra Settings. That is not overclocked and without turbo on. I have yet to mess with the OCing. I got a 6276 on 3Dmark11. I havent seen a laptop handle games like this before and ive seen em all. Unless you have a GTX680x2 in your rig it doesnt get much better. A buddy of mine has 4 680 SLIs in his desktop computer and I have to say although the graphics look a bit better its just as smooth as mine and IMO its a complete waste of money because there arent many games out there with engines designed for that kind of power yet. We have to keep in mind that most games we play are developed to run on 516mb cards and 4gb of ram.

Alrighty, I just got my GT60 tonight. The first thing wanted to do is to replace the mechanical drive with my SSD, but what is with this new UEFI BIOS? I managed to get into the BIOS with delete, but it won't boot from USB or CD so I can clone the drive to my SSD.
Any idea how to get the UEFI BIOS to boot from a Non-UEFI CD or USB? -
-
Also, I just skipped figuring out the UEFI booting and changed the Boot Type to Legacy, booted from Acronis on DVD, resized, and swapped back to UEFI. Running on the SSD now.. -

Opps, sorry. I did mean to put a link in the posting. =)

Also of note, the Synaptic is still removing the feature which allows you to disable the touchpad when an external mouse is plugged in. It's an easy registry edit though.
This was tested on Windows 8 x64 and works great.

I certainly hope the model I ordered comes before Xmas but if it doesn't it doesn't.
Also, dumb question as I'm new to PC gaming and never purchased a high end laptop until now. I have acquired a brand new 3820QM mobile processor locally through an auction in my city. Can I simply replace the processor (3630QM) with this if I so chose? Is this a difficult process?
This is the part number of the processor: BX80638I73820QM
I can sell it as I acquired it really cheap so no big deal if I can't use it. -
You should be able to just put it in.
How much did you pay for it? -

The CPU upgrade is really easy.
Step 1) Remove back cover.
Step 2) Remove the screw holding in the fan and take the fan out.
Step 3) Remove the 3 screws holding the heatsink down
Step 4) Take of the heatsink, clean it.
Step 5) Use a flat head screwdriver to unlock the CPU and remove it.
Step 6) Insert the CPU, LOCK IT IN!! (easy to forget), and put some thermal paste on.
Step 7) Put the heatsink back on and replace the 3 screws, put the fan in (don't forget to plug it back in!)/
Step 8) Replace the back cover.
It might also be worth getting some high quality 0.5mm pads for the CPU VRM circuitry and replacing the stock ones. -
Really cheap. $145.00 at a police auction in the city. That actually sounds like something I could do with no problems.

I am having trouble with World of Warcraft in which the 680m is not being utilized when playing the game. I have went into the Nvidia control panel to add it. I have the MSI Afterburner on to monitor activity but no luck. GW2 has no problem with it. Any ideas? I know I should be getting more than 24 fps. Thanks for any ideas!
I was able to find this on the wow forums in case anyone else runs into the problem as well:
Hello everyone, I've got a fix for everyone with the NVIDIA Optimus problem when unable to use the dedicated card to play WoW.
1. Right click the WoW Launcher that you use.
2. Go down and select "Properties"
3. in the "Target" box, it 'should' say "D:\Stuff\World of Warcraft\Launcher.exe"
4. Add -d3d11 to the box (adding a space after the ...exe" part)
5. Should look like this... "D:\Stuff\World of Warcraft\Launcher.exe" -d3d11
6. Click apply.
7. Open your game as normal, and enjoy!
P.S. you may have to turn off your "Hardware Cursor" if your mouse does not show up after this, just log out, go back to Properties, and delete the -d3d11 part, re-open WoW, turn off the "Hardware Cursor" Log back out, and repeat steps 1-7.
P.S.S To find your "Hardware Cursor" while at the WoW login, or inside the game, go to your options menu, and select the "Advanced" tab, then Select the "Hardware Cursor" (3rd one down) and select to disable it. Click apply and your done.
EDIT: Personally I have the NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M w/ NVIDIA Optimus and I have found that this fix works.
Special Thanks to Nox from my guild who has helped me in countless hours with finding a fix! Thanks buddy. -
Kind of annoying that you need to go through that to get the software to recognize you are using a dedicated GPU.
lol....The order I placed yesterday at GenTechPC says:
"1) MSI GT60-0NE-249US GTX680M Win8 -ETA late Nov."
Better not be late November. Ha! -

Win8...Thats gonna ruin your entire experience

Im using Start8 and forget that I even have windows 8.

I went with windows 7 Pro on my GT60 personally because I do not like windows 8 for many more reasons than just metro. There are still numerous issues with it and many programs do not work with it yet. I have tried windows 8 and think it is no better than 7 in performance. There are numerous benchmark tests out there that show that windows 8 isnt any better when it comes to performance and speed. I just think that windows is tryin to force people into liking there windows phone setup. Windows 8 is going to be a complete failure. It is not user friendly and the average person does not and will not use such a system. No corporation of business will ever upgrade windows 8 into there sytems. Most companies such as mine which employees 600k people uses windows xp still. Metro is not something that people want to deal with whem using there computer for work. And there is no point in installing software to eliminate metro. Why use is if you dont even use it right? Blah windows 8 epic fail

Question about 680M drivers, I got my gt60 in August and have not updated video card drivers, any ones that you guys recommend that have been released since then that improve performance in games? Also tried playing a Blu ray movie on my PC but said I needed the correct software, can anyone explain this one? Thanks.

My GT60 arrived pristine and spotless from Amazon. Not a fingerprint, scratch, or dust speck when I opened it.

blarg. I'm so impatient. I wonder how long this gentech will take to ship.

Gentech is fast..

I am very interested in this laptop. The only major problem of this laptop is Windows 8 which I don't like. I would rather install Windows 7 myself (I already have a full version Windows 7 Ultimate). If I buy GT60 0NE-US249 preinstalled with Windows 8 (which is probably installed with Windows 8 firmware), where can I get a proper firmware for Windows 7? I am worried about it since the company's website says that Windows 8 firmware will make some keys to malfunction under Windows 7. As far as I understand, driver software seems to be compatible with both Windows 7 and 8. Is it correct? Pleases someone enlighten me.
-
Mine came with Win8 and UEFI turned on, but it's really easy to switch back to Legacy boot mode in the BIOS. I see no reason that Windows 7 could not run on this laptop since it's the same hardware as the previous 0NE-220US.
Also, Gentech, XoticPC, and the other resellers sell the GT60 installed with Windows 7 if that is your preference. -
Pretty sure that the gt60 has msata support, and signs point to it soon having super raid(the new msi gt60 with Quattro card has super raid)
