I think your ec firmware is the one that's throttling down your gpu speeds :)

I found compatible heatsink from new generation case. I ask to my manufacturer. They told me new heatsink (for 980m) compatible with your notebook. But we will not give guarantee this card will work perfectly. Card price + heatsink + installing = 900 usd. I think it is good price but now. I want to sure this card will work in my motherboard :s

lol Use throttlestop first and uncheck "bdprochot".. Check if it solves your issue with throttling.

Ok I will....the temps are low, max 70 degrees....so why the throttle? is that really the problem of the firmware?

Engineers do this because they don't want the gpu's/cpu's to overheat (at a cost of performance degredation). Thus this solution will keep the temp's marginal. But for an enthusiast this is a hindrance because it's bottlenecking the performance of the gpu.

There is a modded firmware found in msi website. why don't you check it out to see people who used that ec firmware? Or use throttlestop first and find out if it resolves your issue

Where'd you get the T19 EC? I'm working with Svet on getting an unlocked bios, however the latest EC he linked me was for T18.

I believe there is an issue with the latest Nvidia drivers not working with Afterburner. Drop back to 344.75 or .80, and don't use 347.09.

You can play with ec firmware (old or new one). That's the advantage of it compared to bios update. Also you can see the latest official ec firmware of your nb in msi.

I'm running 980m on 180w and it's going on hybrid power on games like bf4 on high/ultra settings. The adapter starts to coil whine. should i be worried? Gpu isn't OC.

MSI sold the GT60 and 70 with both the 880m and 780m cards. Both of which pulled more power than the latest Maxwell cards. I highly doubt the 980m is going to have any trouble with the 180w adapter/hybrid power combo.

I am from turkey , company name is monster notebook. they aren't shipping international but i think msi have compatible heatsink for gt70 case. ( heatsink price is 24$). Because they are buying from msi and clevo.

This is new generation case, it runs gtx980m but i don't know exactly which motherboard include. But case is same gt70. MONSTER® TULPAR T7 V2.7 17.3" - MONSTER NOTEBOOK > TULPAR
I have old generation but same case. They said we did all test, this card can be problem. For example display won't show in lcd. So i don't know i should upgrade or not.

Try stressing only the GPU with software like Kombustor or FurMark. Check your temps so not to overheat the card. See if it makes the noise again.
Yes 780m/880m are 122W cards while the 980m is a 103W one. I've seen it go max to 207W for the whole notebook while playing Crysis 3 on ultra. Those extra 20-30W it pulls from the battery won't be a problem with a stock 980m.

I'm thinking that the heat might have melted the PSU's transformer coil glue and because of the strong magnetic field generated during high loads it starts vibrating.

24$ for the heatsink? That's a steal! I'll try contacting them and try to negotiate for international shipping :)
What model do you have? The one they sell is a GT70 Haswell barebone with a MS-1763 motherboard so it's compatible with the 980m. Maybe you can go the more probable 970m route.

All will work with the proper ec firmware for the model of your nb. If in msi forum says it's for GT60/70 ivy bridge then it is for that model. Try throttlestop first if it resolves your throttling. if it is then change/update your ec firmware.

    Hi guys....and hi omega...
I changed my EC from T24 to T17 and now, with driver 344,75 i can OC my card without throttle and stuff.....

My new firestrike score is 6962 (graphic score 8035, physics score 8414, combined 3080)
with EC T24 and these clockspeeds (1014Mhz for gpu and 1440 for memory) i got a lower score than on stock speeds (stock score is 6156 and oc t24 score was 5891)

trying to get the scores of Omega now and testing the new Vbios (premamod)
    keep you posted...

Hey bud, join the bandwagon now. Prema vbios is the main deal here for our 9xxm cards... Except for AW :)

How can you sure about upgrade ? Can you explain :). Do you want to buy from where and what ? Only heatsink or with gtx 980m ? But i am sure. They are not shipping international. But if you will be in turkey , they can do in your pc. Maybe without warranty. There is no installing cost if you buy gpu. What do you want to do ? If you can say me , i can write turkish to you.

vBIOS seems perfect so far. Played BF4 with a 200mhz core overclock at 1.0v stable. I believe is 0.993v is Clevo 970m stock voltage? I think I'll stick with this voltage for now as it seems perfectly stable, no weird artifacts, and great performance.

After about an hour of BF4:
    CPU @3.7 was mid 70s C
    GPU @1238core was max 69C

This vBios seems to play a lot nice with overclocks than the TI unlocked vBIOS. Liking this a lot!

    http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/5623515

Core overclock at +200mhz and mem overclock at +400

Max GPU temp 65C and 72C CPU. Turbo Fan ON

Just a note if you order the Heatsink from Aliexpress prepare to be frustrated. Hoping some of you might be around this weekend. Im not anywhere near the knowledge many of you have so im expecting difficulties LOL. But hey, its the only way to learn sometimes.

Does anyone know why msi burner 4.1.0 refuses to Overclock my 980m after upgrading from nvidia driver 344.80 to 347.25? Had this problem with the last few drivers so I stuck to the 344.80 but I'm missing out on stuff if I just stay but I get zero Overclock on the gpu on this. I can type any number and it'll just go straight back to 0 after clicking apply.

What can I do to fix this?

For the time being stay with the "older" 344.80 you aren't missing nothing special except for GTX960 support and MFAA for some more titles.
Maybe Nvidia will remove this new driver "feature" on later versions :/

2 WHQL driver releases in a row that have this new "feature" aka no overclocking on mobile cards introduced. I really hope this isn't here to stay. The +135mhz core limitation was already a pain and requires an unlocked vBios to work around, looks like now we will also need some sort of unlocked drivers to enable overclocking as well?

Regardless 344.75 works great for me, and I use MFAA in BF4. But future game releases will probably need better driver support, and optimizations. I can't use 344.75 forever, but I don't want to give up the ability to overclock either. If this is here to stay, this will solidify my decision to return to a custom desktop build, and sooner rather than later.

With a TDP tweak it can be quite a bit faster, it is also partially unlocked and can have +400mhz added to the speed.
