You can get a 3920XM on eBay for $299 US.

I just had Svet unlock my bios. Process takes a little bit of time with the back and forth, but he's quick and responsive. I've never seen so many tweaks in a bios - even on a desktop motherboard.

I donated 10 euros and he was fine with that.

I haven't overclocked mine. It just has a lot of tweaks in there. Svet gave me a list of some recommended ones but I haven't had time to go thru and look at them.

I used to have a 2920xm but sold it cos sandy bridge are hotter than ivy bridge . and ivy bridge have 3d transistor support in it which have an advantage. That's why I sold mine but when it comes to overclocking, I used to oc it at 4.1 gigahertz thru bios (no hassle).

Btw vsleen. u need a 240 watts adapter. a 240 watts adapter feels different even if you don't oc your proc. it feels like a desktop. Plus when using an unlock bios, you can fiddle the timings of your memory and what if you bought a tweakable memory? you can oc also the memory a little bit by raising the front side bus a bit ;). Now i'm a bad influence to you. You might not sleep most of the time thinking of weather to upgrade or not lol

    @superguy

where you got that .51x bios ? can share me that link? Thanks

Such a shame about nvidia doing that with MSI afterburner on the latest drivers. Gotta be someway to bypass that...I don't get why they'd do it.

    Hi Guys,

I am stuck. I ordered the 970M from RJTech, installed it and now at the driver-vbios-bios stage. I have the generic Windows driver right now.

First problem is getting NVFlash to work.

Under Win 81. x64 can I run NVFlash within a DOS command window? Or do I have to boot into DOS. What is the exact command? It is unclear from the NVFLASH until help.

e.g. "NVFLASH MSI.rom" where MSI ROM is the new EEPROM flash.

    TIA

PS: I have read entire thread a while back, but I will read it again..

First tell us what system you have? I recommend leaving the Stock vBios alone for now. If necessary you will update your system BIOS to latest version and after that you can use the stock Clevo VBIOS and install normal nvidia drivers.

To answer your question you run a CMD as Admin in windows 8.1 and update your VBios with nvflash if necessary.

For now tell us your system config and just try and install normal nVidia drivers.

Perfect. All you have to do is update to latest MSI system BIOs and you can use stock Clevo vBios. And install normal nvidia drivers.

Great, That is what I thought. So I just followed the MSI website instructions. From within the UEFI bios I went to install 518 BIOS.

Following the PDF file the reference I proceeded. Then when it went to reboot, it froze with the white lite on the power button.

It is black screen with no POST now. Any suggestions? Trying to no panic :0

I see on page 68 Felix did the same! Why would following the MSI web site result in a bricking of the system. Is it because I have this card?

Apparently you didn't follow the instructions on MSI BIOS update. If you had an older BIOS version, you must update system to 50V first before updating to 518!!! Yes you most likely just bricked your laptop!

It says that right there on the download page! This is why MSI updated that page again recently and added 50V version.

    Aw... That hurts :(

Talon is right. You must pay attention and read in msi website on how to update your nb bios. If you don't then it will result to bricking your laptop.

Hi guys some issues here could use some insight. Got home today and gathered my supplies completed the mod to the heatsink and installed the card. booted up the machine and the resolution sucks. its runnng 640x480 and very blotchy looking. Intel HD Grapihics 4000 is not working and the red gpu light is on. wont go to white. checked device manager and have an error for intel HD graphics stating "this device cannot find enough free resources that it can use" sounds like a conflict to me. the new gpu shows up as standard VGA graphics adapter. cpu-z is not detecting intel graphics only a standard vga adapter. strangely HWINFO64 is showing the 970m.

    Hey Tribal,

Have you tried to install the nvidia drivers yet?

In device manager are there any other errors? Even if you don't see any open up the other fields/drop menus and look for any conflicts. If you see any conflicts, find open that one up and uninstall the driver and reboot. Windows shovel fix any issues or has by installing the generic driver again.

I know Omega had an issue very similar to is one. Anything from you Omega?

Luto I'm sorry I sounded so harsh in my first post to you, but it's really written 4 times in MSI download page to update to that version first I guess people are updating system BIOS from older version and it was found to not play nice unless you have a more recent version. But as Omega said you have to make sure you read the instructions/descriptions and follow MSI instructions to the T or as you found it can brick your system.

I don't know if any other way to recover your system than to simply either send it to MSI service center for a new BIOS chip, or to take it to a local computer repair shop and have them put a new one on the motherboard containing the latest BIOS,

Sorry for that bad luck. MSI should seriously consider boldinf the heck out of their instructions on the website.

I know right about know you're probably crying and hitting yourself upside your head with your power brick (because that's what I did when I bricked my system, and that was before they updated the BIOS download support page), but if your system is still under warranty, you can RMA it with MSI and they'll repair it at no cost (of course, they'll expect you to box it up and pay to ship it to them if you don't live near a service center, and it'll likely take may 2 months to get back). If you're not under warranty, get estimates from reputable repair shops in your area, then contact MSI and see how much they'll scr... I mean... charge ya. Good luck!

    Hey Talon,

No worries, Not too harsh. Yeah 503 to 518 BIOS is a bricking action. I am under waranty so I submitted a ticket. That is pretty bad they don't block the updated or do something to prevent folks from doing this. I have never, until now, lol heard of needing an intermediate BIOS verison or else you brick the machine. Now I know. That is how one learns eh? I would consider this a priority "bug" fix based on my 10 years as a software tester.

I should have not been too sleepy. Funny thing is, my refigerator went out today, then the car would not start, so I figured I would update my NB. Probably should not choose a wife next. :0

    Thanks for the help.

In my case the page wasn't updated. I only found out later, by inspecting both the old and the new BIOS under an hex editor, about the UEFI update routine version change :p
How's the Prema VBIOS running Talon?
I know he removed some power fluctuations due to the throttling algorithm so frame rates should be more consistent now.

Did you reset the EC after installing the card? Also try loading BIOS defaults, reboot and then reapply the previous settings. If you're going to install the drivers do it in safe mode, where it will let you go at 800x600, at least it's more bearable as a resolution :p
Go with the MSI Intel driver than the 344.75 for the 970m. Once you have settled those update the Intel to the latest one.
Let us know how it goes :)

I can feel your pain buddy...
I did that too and ended with a bricked GT60. Apparently the included UEFI update routine has been updated from v1.0 on pre .50V BIOSes to v1.2 on .50V+ BIOS versions. That's why the intermediate step to flash version .50V is neccessary. Contact MSI for an RMA. They do cover this kind of damage as your GT60 is still under warranty (if you're in the US). I sent mine in and they'll reflash it for free under warranty.
Where I live a local electronics lab was too incompetent for such a task. I had to explain everything to them and even asked if I could do it myself with their tools but they refused (haha they felt ashamed).

So AzraelsKiss how did you solve? Did you RMA it? On the MSI forum nobody replied to us..

Felix I did reset EC and didn't think about bios. Will try that as well as installing in safe mode. Thanks. Yes I did try to install the 344.75 drivers as I recalled someone having problems with the latest.

Well thought I would try a fresh install of Windows to see if that would help. Resolution is still. Low and still a conflict in Intel graphics. Only standard vga. Updated chipset and Intel management. Like omega did. Still not detecting card. Taking a break before I smash something LOL . Under this sample directory C:\344.80\Display.Driver (where ":C:\" is where you put your NVidia driver and supposing you've extracted a file and named it like "344.80" on my sample)

Get the "nv_dspi.inf" file and edit it. Copy paste these files under [Manufacturer] and [Strings] and save it.

If you'll be using a prema vbios then you need to change the hardware id

I RMA'd my system. Now it's sitting in an MSI service facility in California, waiting for them to get around to scanning it into the system, so they can notify me that they have received it. Of course, even after they do that, it'll probably still sit on a shelf for at least a couple of weeks before they decide to do anything with it. lol Oh well... blah...

Could you please send me a pm the BIOS, E16F3IMS.51X and EC, E16F3EMS1 VerT.19?
I plan to upgrade my 16F3 VGA to 970m again soon.

Btw, did you get micro stuttering while playing some games?

nope. I don't get stuttering. One possible answer to your question is that your thermal pads is to thick that the gpu is not properly lapping on the heatsink. That happened to me before when I upgraded to 680m.. Temps so high plus stutter..

Can you give me your email add? to send you the file.. Get the T17 ec firmware for windows 8xx. found in msi website..

I'm using thermal gease MX-4, paste it 1 seed of rice and temperature not higher than 85c on full load.
But I notice in my 16F3 bios have no ME FW
    Screenshot by Lightshot

I think this may cause stuttering when loading more texture in some games eg. Crysis 3.
In some games, Dark Souls 2 or Resident Evil HD Remaster have no problem.

    hi Guys,

i think i'm going back to het Original VBIOS or maybe the SLV7. The reason is the higher temps i'm getting now (probably because of the higer voltage) and i can't game for a long time without the temps being in the 80's max 91 degrees. I can run with the fan on high ofcourse but not all the time...

Ya Ive also moved back to regular Clevo vBios. It seems IMO to play the nicest. All other vBios work and install normal drivers without issue, but I feel like there is some sort of microstitter or frame loss encountered. It feel almost like I'm also not getting my 144hz or something as well. On the Clevo vBios I don't get that feeling. It's smooth and consistent frames.

I thought maybe it was the overclocks but I also experience the frame loss feeling even at stock clocks and voltages. I suppose this could all be in my head or some other type of lag but I don't think so. It feels like a stuttering issue or frame loss issue. Of course the unlocked VBios are great for benching but I'll stick to stock for gaming. Maybe when I get more time later I'll try and nail down what was causing it. But for me tenps were good, but I also crank that fan up!

    Hi Talon,
I didn't encounter stutter or anything, the framerate was good it was just really the temps...Gilfriend gets nervous of the sound wen it runs high sow stock for me now...
