    1. Upgrade thermal compound
    2. Upgrade thermal pads
    3. Add cooler at the bottom to help to bring airflow for the system to become cooler.

Hey guys so I am a tad bit confused. I have an MSI GT70 0ND. It previously had an i7 3630QM and I put a 3840QM in, as well as upgrading from a 4gb 675mx to an 8gb 980m. Here is what I have done so far. I flashed my bios to the unreleased .51x version (provided by talon), flashed the vbios on the graphics cad with the Clevo 84.04.2F.00.79 version using nvflash. As well as installing the official nvidia drivers for the card. The card is recognized as a 980m and I can run some programs with it. But for example, when I open Nvidia control panel and it is displaying the 3d nvidia logo, it is almost always glitched out. Very rarely will there be nothing wrong with it. The graphics card also shows zero utilization on HWMonitor constantly. Not to mention that whenever I run any graphic intensive game, the game will either crash, or the game will run for a couple minutes and then my computer will shut off. So I guess my question is, did I miss a step? Or is there something wrong with my gpu? Thanks. Oh and another thing, whenever I run UserBenchMark, sometimes it never finishes due to one of the GPU testing programs always crashing. I am fairly certain it was POM.exe. But when it does finish, it always tells me my gpu is underperforming.

Thank you, I contacted svet and he said the EC doesn't matter. I am confused by that but ok. I do have a question though. When I run a game or benchmark like Kombustor, there is a noise almost like whining coming from my laptop. When it is plugged into the wall charger, the noise is there but computer functions. As soon as I unplug the charging chord, the laptop shuts off. Any ideas? Thanks!

I also have this problem, the games were not run on the nvidia card. Official drivers installed without problems on 10 and 7 windows. On 8 and 8.1 black screen. The indicator constantly glows orange when running Windows. My configurations gt60 0nd, i7 3610qm, gtx 970m 3gb (msi)

    I do have a question. I I have an MSI -1762 GT70 0ND
    BIOS: E16F3IMS.51X
    EC: 1762EMS1 Ver5.03
    GPU: Clevo GTX 980M 8GB.
It previously had an i7 3630QM and I put a 3840QM in, as well as upgrading from a 4gb 675mx to an 8gb 980m. I received modded vBios from svet and installed it, but haven't changed any of the GPU settings yet.
When I run a game or benchmark like Kombustor, there is a noise almost like whining coming from my laptop. When it is plugged into the wall charger, the noise is there but computer functions. As soon as I unplug the charging chord, the laptop shuts off. The noise varies with load. (Quiet with light gaming, loud when running kombustor) Any ideas? Thanks!

Did you unplug the AC adapter while running the game? If yes, then that's normal behavior because you overloaded the battery (may potentially causing damage to it as well) therefore please refrain from doing that.
The humming noise is from VRM (power regulator) which can happen when they are under load but the tolerance is different from one system to another so if you are trying to push for extra performance then you may need to tune down voltage.

I did two tests. One where I was just running a game off the battery, and it shut off mid game. Then one plugged in to the power adapter, which I unplugged and it shut off immediately. Taking from what you said I won't try that again, but I have to ask, are both of these cases normal for this mod? And as I said, I haven't touched the GPU settings (aka voltage, clock, etc) it's all at stock, but the noise is still present. Should I lower the voltage still? Thanks again!

Regarding the first test, if any changes in the power load that exceeds the battery limitation, such as using an unlocked EC firmware will definitely cause the system to shut down. We can never get a decent gaming from the battery because we are talking about 150-200W (AC-source) vs 40W (DC-source).

Well I never changed the EC from stock, just flashed the BIOS. And regarding my other questions ( sorry for being repetitive) but is this a normal issue with this mod? And should I lower the voltage? Or leave it at stock? Thanks!

Did you have the issue before the VBIOS update? If not then it's very likely to be caused by it. You can verify this by flashing it back to confirm. The other thing you can try is definitely by lowering the voltage to avoid it from exceeding its cap.

Unfortunately no. The issue was occurring even prior to the vBios update. When I was running benchmarks for Svet I would hear the noise. When I ran a lighter benchmark like UNIGINE Heaven, the noise wasn't as loud. Like, it was just as audible as fan noise. But when I benchmarked with Kombustor at higher settings it was definitely more audible. I will try to lower the voltage and see if it helps. What should I set it to do you think? And should I flash the EC? Or keep it stock as it is? Thanks again!

I thought it was 1762EG62.401? Because on the first page of the forum it shows a GT70 Ivy Bridge with this EC which is what I have. What system is 16F4EMS1.517 for?

One of them is wrong, so if yours is GT70 then it's 1762, and GT60 is 16F4.

I don't think you understand the situation here. On the very first page of this thread Talon shows:
" Ivy Bridge Based GT60/70 Laptops: Require System BIOS Version 51x or 71x
It has been discovered by other users that upgraded their Ivy Bridge based GT60 and GT70 laptops that an unreleased BIOS version (version 51x or 71x) is required in order for the card to be fully detected and installed properly."

And I am not asking for the latest EC. I am asking for the EC that may correct the issue I am having. I know EC 1762EG62.401 is from svet. What is the difference between 1762EG62.401 and 1762EMS1.506?

E1762IMS.51X (or 71X) and 1762EMS1.T24 are the pair Svet did for 7.xx and up cards for GT70 0Nx laptops.

EG62 is for Whitebook version of the systems since they use a different kind of touch panel (power, etc), whilst EMS1 is meant for retail version.
These EC should be the same in terms of power flow control. Svet should be able to get you the modified EMS1 EC.

Did you get the BIOS & EC from Svet directly?

Ah gotcha, I got the BIOS from Talons link on the first page of this forum. The EC I have is the stock EC of the laptop. I asked svet for the EC for my laptop, and he asked me what kind of customization I want. I don't know what he means by that.

    good day,

i know there are 100's of topic of this already but i cant find a straight answer in any of them.
so i have a GT70 2PC with Windows 10 that originally had a GTX 870M in it, i got an GTX 980M from ebay that was in a GT80. i pulled out the old GPU and modded the heat sink and installed the new one, updated the driver to 391.01-notebook-win10-64bit-international-whql, the only thing the the GPU is working with is Nicehash program, when i try to run it in any fame it uses lowest game setting, i have already checked to make sure my preference and it is set up to use the 980, but still nothing, 0% GPU usage when every i am trying to run any game. i think i need to upgrade my BIOS but i want to make sure 1st, my current BIOS is E1763IMS.50T, should i upgrade my BIOS and EC? or is there a modded Driver i should use.

Thank you for your help in advance, i know this been asked a lot but i want to make sure 100% before i do anything else.

From my short experience, you should donate to Svet first here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=121220.0

Make an account and then post in the forum your Bios, EC, etc. and what you want done here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?board=51.0

And Svet will message you with the correct software and instructions. Hope this helps!

So I I properly installed the new BIOS and EC(E1762IMS.51X & 1762EMS1.T24) , but still have the same problem. As soon as I start some heavy gaming, the computer and the power supply both make a light, high-pitched buzzing/humming sound. As soon as I close the game it stops. Similarly, when I am running Kombustor, the sound is there, but only happens when the voltage spikes to over 1V. As soon as it drops below 1V it's gone. ( I am attaching a kombustor monitor to show that when testing, it jumps to 1.050V and that is when the sound happens. ANd also Nvidia Inpsector to show the default settings I have.)

Hi. I have also recently upgraded my GT70 2PC, Win10 from GTX 870 to GTX 980. Works perfect. Only problem I still having is when the gputemp reaches 75 degrees the sound crackles and dissapears, but I already had that problem with the GTX 870. Planning in the near future to test liquid metal on the cpu and gpu ( )hoping to drop temp some degrees. Is there anyone having some experience with this ? Here are two pics from my machine that maybe could spread some light on your problem.

    Good job!
But now 1060s and even 1070s are available for GT60/70, and they outperform quite frankly the 980m GTX.
BTW I have the same temps as yours on my 980m GTX (75-80°C).

Just wondering if your temperatures on your gpu affects your soundchip. Seems to be a common problem on GT70. What Model do you have ?

I have absolutely no problem with my sound chip, whatever the GPU temp.
This is my realtek driver in device list:
    6.0.1.7116 from 17/12/2013
I have not updated the sound driver as it's working nicely.

Ok, I have 6.0.1.8366 - 6/2/2018 so maybe I will give your version a try, but I dont think this is a driverproblem but you never know. My model as of purchase is GT70-2PC with gtx870. According to HWinfo64 my model is now (after the gtx980) identified as GT70-2QE.

It could also be oxydation or simply a bad sound chipset.
