Agreed, and I think it looks much nicer than Computex.

Somebody please tell me, why the h@ck did they put those extra buttons on the Left side instead of the RIGHT??! I am a gamer on notebook so my left hand is on the WASD buttons, almost very edge so I don't get of extra buttons on the left! It makes me uncomfortable. Put it on the Right! That is EXACTLY the best place for all extra buttons! Between main keyboard and a mouse!
BTW, as long as keyboard is not moving against the screen (notebooks) I would like it to begin at the very left edge. Why not? Even though nobody does that for now.
Just my 2 cents.
One more. The bottom cover is 1 full piece with legs. Which means that most likely you are not able to take it off and use notebook without bottom cover. That would be awful if there would be no such a big airflow as it is with that big grill. And 2 vents. Anyway, unless I see that it can handle TOP GPU and Xtreme CPU with lower than 80C while gaming (not 3D modeling of course), I will be not so conscious in it.
And Doubling the network... I really doubt that it gives any benefit at all) I bet latencies are because of bad Internet and not because 2 Killer Network adapters are better than 1 Killer Network Adapter

Dang, those annoying left-hand buttons.... again, LOL!
-
finally! msi has dumped the old GT chassis!
To be honest, the old one is not very appealing to me, it looks ancient and cheapy (sorry if it offends anyone, my personal opinion only)
but this new chassis looks really nice and premium!
with the dual exhausts and stuff, this one really qualifies to compete with other big boutique names like rog

Have you seen the bottom panel? It's basically one giant intake vent anyway, I don't think cooling will be a problem with the GT72 especially with 2 fans.
The Killer double pro card sounds great to me.
The only thing that I really don't like is there is no Maxwell yet, I really need the top Maxwell GPU to make it worth my while, the base CPU is fine for most users and is more than enough to handle every game.
I would have liked to see a MQ CPU instead of HQ so if you ever did need an upgrade you can swap it out .
Everything else looks 100% better than the last model. -
I had an HP DV6 for 4 years with a similiar keyboard, and yet I was always pressing this annoying buttons instead of crtl or shift
-
So when are HM/QM97 chipsets due? Also didn't they just list this unit with m.2 drives?

Great video!
But, I simply do not understand about the Killer DoubleShot Pro, I wonder how it actually works. Ethernet and wireless, both connected to same network or separate networks? And is it upgraded to 3 antennas? That would be a huge plus for network connectivity!
And the shortcut buttons on the left, I wonder why they create a button dedicated for the Xsplit feature for streaming gaming sessions? I wonder if that button can be customisable since not all of us would be streaming our gameplay.
The video says it's lighter by a pound and a half and that's more than half a kilogram, great! But the bigger power brick would make it a heavier package which would be the same, sigh. And since it's 10mm thinner, would it be a slight sacrifice of ventilation?
Overall, the device is a great improvement over the previous, loving what they did, but I hope I can have some answers to my questions
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
DoubleShot is just a marketing term, it represents a full solution for LAN/WLAN from Qualcomm Atheros used by MSI and bears with the same limitation.
It's 2-antenna but not 3.
Not sure about the Xsplit button but anything is modifiable since it's controlled by EC firmware.
That's true to the AC adapter, but they were able to shrink 120W before so they can definitely do it again with others as well.
There shouldn't be any limitation from the thickness as far as ventilation is concerned. The thermal budget are usually factored by the amount of heatsink and fan performance, and noise of fan needs to be put into consideration as well.-=$tR|k3r=- likes this. -
Very cool video! I like the amount of ports on this thing.... And while I was watching, they casually mentioned HDMI will work to play on 4k screens. I hope he does mean it is HDMI2.0, I can only hope!
Overall I really like the new design and look. Can't wait!-=$tR|k3r=- likes this. -

AnandTech | NVIDIA Kepler Cards Get HDMI 4K@60Hz Support (Kind Of)
Probably 30hz at full quality or the above half measure due to the capabilities of kepler itself. The display ports will do 4k though so you can get 2 4k 60hz monitors. -
Watched the video.
Things I noticed:
- The touchpad is made of glass
- Optimus is no longer required. GT72 comes with MUX. You can switch between dGPU and IGP with a button. Alienware got it. Its awesome.
- GT72 have 4 speakers and subwoofer.
- Each speaker have its own amplifier. Including the headphone, which means great sound. -
Killerinstinct Notebook Evangelist
He corrected himself about the speakers , its only 2 + sub
-
At which time point did he correct himself?
-
Killerinstinct Notebook Evangelist
@18:42 , he mentions he mistakenly said 4 -
Ah well, I still expect the 2 speakers + woofer to be excellent as long as they're no worse than what's in the GT60/70. -

4K is supported at 30fps/Hz due to HDMI 1.4b compliance.

Concentrating on decent 2.1 rather than a gimmick 4.1 setup makes it sound way better on the current models so 2.1 is a plus in my book.GuniGuGu likes this. -
As for sound I have 4 speakers in my GE series withOUT subwoofer. So it is gimmick indeed in my case because I have no idea what to setup in player: 4.1 or 2.0 LOL. I pick 2.0.
LMAO here is that that girl also couldn't justify a shortcut button for a payeable nonfree service that she couldn't even manage to promote this stuff without real sarcasm in her voice same as in her verbal sight (I like her thumbs up and smile at the end

Not really interested in the steaming service but still like the fact it has hot buttons on the side.
Some will like it, some will not. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Yup, not everyone wants to broadcast their gaming session. -
Yeah I read that. It mostly works with video but not for gaming per se. I can also use the HDMI out put to display all manner of resolutions but always limited at 30hz for obvious reasons. Sadly unless someone makes a Display port 1.2 to HDMI 2.0, it's gonna be a while before using my TV as a gaming 4k 60hz monitor.
The thing is, I don't have 4 monitors, just one 4k tv haha. Monitors at least use or tend to use display port to alleviate such issues...
That sucks. It's not MSI's fault but dammit they are taking their sweet time getting HDMI 2.0 devices haha.
Yeah, I mean I don't play that good to begin with, so why broadcast how much I suck at some games? hahaha

Lol...I totally understand, I game for fun and entertainment not to show off how bad I am.
Don't get me wrong it's sometimes fun watching "pro's" game on steaming channels but it's probably something I personally won't use after the free trial period is up. -
Yep! Altho secretly I am pro but I rather not show
hhahahaha. But yep, I rather play for fun and only look others when searching something in particular.
I think I have only appeared in streams when playing against others. I remember a particular League of Legends match broadcasted by Treeskimo. I entered the match late but ended dominating the game haha. -

What are the differences between the Killer Doubleshot and the Killer DoubleShot Pro? I didn't follow up with this much since this isn't present in the GT780DXR.
It would be great if they manage to upgrade it to 3 antennas and have the Bluetooth feature as well, it has been a while since I last saw a decent upgrade of Wifi cards, I mean aside from the 802.11AC connectivity.
I'm crossing my fingers hard that they could make a more compact and mobile 230W adapter, I believe everybody who is always on the go would love to see that come true.
You got a point, they have made a huge vent for the bottom and started using 2 fans which should be able to cool the system to a reasonable temperature while gaming at max settings. So tempting! -
Do we know what panel is being used? At this stage apart from the cosmetic changes and a dew minor internal changes it's barely different than a gt70...
I hope we see some different SKU's soon.. Something with next gen video cards and ideally a high res screen option. -
Killerinstinct Notebook Evangelist
I think the dual fan system is a pretty big internal change , earlier on in the thread stated ability to upgrade to a higher resolution panel but currently looks to be a FHD screen also seems that it might be the lvds so could be the gt70 screen till they upgrade to the hm97 chipset where we might see EDP screens and 3k support -
Sure the dual fan is great... But spec wise it's barely different than a gt70 or any of the other 17" gaming laptop a available at the moment.

Well, I watched the video that was shared last 2 days.
MSI GT72 Dominator Pro Interview - Newegg TV » Newegg.com - Computer Parts, Laptops, Electronics, and More!
Pay attention to 19:02, Vincent talks about Killer DoubleShot Pro. He mentioned about Ethernet and wireless. Maybe I misunderstood something, hope you could clarify for me. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's a new wireless module with AC capability (and the same setup as before generally) but as for the specifics they are not out yet.
-
Now I could be wrong but what I understood about the Killer Double shot Pro from that vid is that it combines both the now new AC wireless card and ethernet port for reduced latency and more bandwith when both are running at the same time, i beleive it's 19:00 into the vid.
Not sure it works unless you have an AC router only but that's discussion for another time. -

Another recent GT72 article......
MSI GT72 Dominator hands-on
I am really excited about the new GT72, and can't wait to get my hands on one of these. Of course, I will be waiting for the next-gen Maxwell GT72, but I am now thinking this 880M Kepler model will make a great gift for my son's upcoming B-day. As such, I can get my grubby paws on the GT72 sooner, so stay tuned...... photos and benchmarks to follow, SOON!
(He'll be able to do his own 'un-boxing', but I'm gonna unbox it first, LOL!)

You mean yoo are going to buy it for yourself, play around with it for a while put it back in the box and then give it to him for his birthday after you get a taste of GT72 goodness...right
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Precisely! But prior, I promise not to eat messy finger foods like BBQ ribs, buttered lobster, or crab legs..... will remove all smudges, will re-pack it carefully (just as it arrived), will re-tape it like factory, and I'll use a tasteful B-day wrapping paper. He'll never know!
-
Guess its gonna be sager this year since there doesn't seem to be a gt62 in the cards...

Man, and i had plans for a desktop next year. Probably end up getting this new baby from MSI when it refreshes with the new Nvidia Maxwell chips. (for high end)
-
I'd love to know the physical footprint of this beauty. Do we know its dimensions and weight yet?
-
No one knows the exact specs for sure but expect it to be slightly thinner and lighter than the last model (GT70).
Don't expect anything too much smaller since it is a true desktop replacement, it will still be big and heavy just not as big and heavy. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's roughly the same size, just a little sleeker. Not much you can do if you want to do the system right.
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Yes, it's still a 17" footprint, but lighter, slimmer, and sleeker than the GT70..... wholly improved, the GT72 is sure to be pure awesome goodness..... especially when the next-gen chips are released.

Just thought I should share this : MSI Unveils the GT72 Dominator and WS60 Laptops - IGN
The review was not in depth though, still looking and waiting for a more thorough review, just so excited for this!
There will definitely be more reviews next week!
From certain angles, the GT72 keyboard base looks rather grey than black.
1 question, since the air intake is from the bottom now, there will be no more intake from the keyboard?-=$tR|k3r=-, THOR_MSI and extrospector like this. -
Oh, bad, bad, bad. This is exactly what I was afraid of.
GT72 is not gonna be sleeker. No. It will be thinner ONLY at the very back part where it was unnaturally thick in GT70. But then GT70 goes much thinner and thinner from beck to front, making a triangle if you look from its side. But here, in GT72 it looks totally straight like a rectangle form without even tiny thinnering as it looked like in the previous pictures.
It is way better for transferring it in the bag or back-bag. But it has no health angle for hands while typing anymore and you need to use cooling pad for that. If you use cooling stand it becomes even thicker. -
Thanks lonelywolf.
So it's expected to be about a 1/2 centimeter slimmer, though as James D mentions, it will have a much more uniform thickness rather than a wedge-shape. I actually prefer a uniform thickness (regardless of comfort) because as a mobile user, I need to lug my laptop around with me all of the time in a backpack. A wedge feels more awkward to carry in a backpack because it's much heavier on one side.
IGN states that at 8.59 pounds, it'll be "somewhat lighter" than the GT70. But is the GT70 not 8.59 pounds as well?
The upcoming MSI GT72..... a pre-release discussion.
