When I tried to OC mine it crashed at 3.9Ghz, but I think I forgot to remove my undervolt first lol, still scored around 760-780CB on CB R15 before it crashed.

    KillHates...............

    "Elég komplex hibája volt:

A feltételezézem szerint olyasmiből eredhet: azért, hogy menjen a GTX1070 a gépben erre az Medion Erazer-nek hitt gépre rá lett töltve anno egy gamer MSI GT70 BIOS-ának a fele és össze lett fésülve a MEDION ERAZER-ével. Jó is lett ment rendesen stb...

Oké, kondicsere, programozás, próba; a perifériavezérlő megint kiürül, marad a stand-by állapot. [IMG]
Azaz megy minden a gépben, ami fizikailag belefér.
Most mát csak ennek az tartalmát kellett összefésülnöm az 2OK tartalmával: és láss csodát! Megy a 1070 rendesen a gépben, a 4940XM mellett!
Szóval ennyire egyszerű volt a hiba [IMG]
Aki végigolvasta, az megérdemel egy túrórudit! [IMG]"

    Hi mr007rm,

I just have tried to translate what you posted in google. It is hard to understand, but anyway..
As per my understanding, your master used BIOS of Whitebook developed by some Vietnamese brother.
At the end he merged the Whitebook BIOS with GT70-2OK BIOS.
Finally, your GT70 has the 4940XM CPU and GTX 1070m GPU working properly with the 330W power supply.

    I have GT70 0NE with GTX 680m and i7-3630QM (Ivy Bridge).
I upgraded memory, now it has 32Gb 1866, and SSDs instead of HDD.
I am gathering info regarding CPU and GPU upgrade.
I studied many forums related to upgrades of GT70/GT72, but I do not have still a clear picture how to do this properly, having working laptop with new CPU and GPU finally.

My current goals are the following:
    1. Install i7-3940XM
    2. Install GTX 1070m
    3. Use a 330W power supply (do not know which model)
    4. Have everything working like in stock, i.e. with no issues: keyboard, gpu, power button etc.

I bought already the CPU and GPU.
Could you please help me to obtain a list of proper steps which I have to do in order to have the upgrade done.

Anyone else who can help please do not ignore my message )
    Thank you!

    @Hironori Taniguchi @johnbb @mr007rm @woodzstack

Hey guys, so my understanding from this topic is that the MSI version of the 1070 MXM doesn't fit in the GT60? And the Eurocom version does fit, but it is a weaker version of the card and I should just go for the 1060? What about the power demands, and the input limit of 180W? And do you guys use 4k screens now or still FHD?

    I have a 16F4 GT60 barebones with a 970m and an i7 4800MQ. Thanks you in advance.

    Hey,
You should go for MSI 1060 MXM. Eurocom 1070 GTX is made by gecube and from what I've heard, they are limiting the TDP to 115W. Gecube also have very high RMA rate so I'd stay away from these until they are proven to be worthy.

Hi. It was about upgrading a MSI 2PC GTX 880m to 1070. It was possible. although my laptop, which was like the one I did the procedure, died. I don't think it was caused by the graphic card, but it died anyway.
I used a 1070 from Eurocom, bought from woodzstack. I knew there was some power limit, and for that SVET helped but, cant be changed. but it worked fine. I played No one's sky, super smooth, much better than 880M. also ATRONEER, and MASS EFFECT ANDROMEDA smoothly in High or Ultra setting.
    I still used FHD.

@sicili428: good to know that gecube has finally mastered the mxm production of pascal cards. As I can see, they now have 150W 1070s and 120W 1060s.
Very good news for us who still keep MXM laptops!

Thanks a lot for your response! Hmm so what do you recommend after sicili428's post? Is there a difference between the 1060 on the gecube(eurocom) site and the MSI one? I don't know what my 16F4 GT60 can power without throttling. I would really like a 1070 but 150W is obviously out of the question..

Definitely go for 1060 GTX MSI (black PCB version). It absolutely rocks, has quite low tdp so should not overload your PSU (180W for MSI GT60 if I remember correctly) and has tremendous overclocking capabilities. Perfect for 1080p gaming.
1070 GTX is worth if you intend to play on 1440p screen but the 150W is out of the question as it will max out your PSU. That leaves the 115W one, that in my opinion, is not worth the price difference with the 1060.

I'm about to put a GTX1070 MXM out of a Zotac EN1070 in my Erazer X7835 (MS-1763 Motherboard).

    Will this work?

What do I have to take into account?

It should be fine, if you need a different kind of fan mapping on the EC firmware, you can check with Svet at MSI forum.

Hi. Just want to raise the problem with the sound dissapearing (because of heat) while gaming again. Has anyone with this problem managed to succesfully solve this and have a solution? The reason I am asking as that I have my GT70-2PC running colder than ever before after a repaste (cpu and gpu)with liquid metal (thermal grizzly conductonaut) I never go over 80 celsius and still have this problem. Is it confirmed to be the soundchip getting warm or has it something to do with the speakers. The problem never arise while using bluetooth headset.

400$ for a gtx 1070 is a really good price... But now that RTX laptops are up you may want to focus on these and sell the MSI...
It really hurts me to say this but 1070 gtx is end of the line now in MXM... RTX quadros exist but are quite rare and super expensive, now that Clevo & MSI have their own "MXM ish" cards, our upgrade possibilities are shrinking...

The CPU on the GT70 can't cope with a 1070 in most games, so its not like you would gain much going over the 1070, plus the 1070 can be TDP modded if the laptop hardware and firmware can take the extra load, so in a way the 1070 is the perfect final upgrade.

BTW love the reviews, always nice to see the disassembly of a laptop afterwards to see what it’s packing :)

Liquid metal and shimming, no problem in cooling. Only worry is the castrated zotac vbios which will be switched out for a clevo one.

Gonna finish it soon, just have to start my final year project for uni (online lectures due to this damn coronavirus). Once that’s rolling I’ll come back to this...

@DaMafiaGamer Does the 1080 works ? I tried the same card on my MS-1763 (GT70 haswell) but it does not seems to work, I don't know if it's because of the card or the laptop.

Well guys I got some news for you, the card didn't work in both GT70's I bought :( one was a 3rd gen version and the other was a 4th gen version.

Upon inserting the card it is recognised but the ec on both GT70's makes the fan kick into permanent turbo boost. I tried every single vbios there was on that card, clevo, msi, zotac, asus, asrock everything lol and it still resulted in error 43 after the inf mod.

I believe these are possible reasons why:

    1) The GT70 EC does not recognise this card, it looks to be mxm but may not have the same temperature reading sensors as a normal 980m etc. Maybe VRM temps are not detected, although core temps are detected easily through hwinfo...

    2) The vbios's have a feature in which they can detect which CPU is in the laptop. It could quite possibly be a problem with the CPU and chipset being to old, 3rd gen and 4th gen systems were definitely extinct by the time the zotac 1080 mxm came out...

    3) The actual card is faulty, it may be possible but is unlikely as it tested and booted on the GT72 on dGPU with no artifacting or crashes, vbios version shows up in the bios on that laptop too.

So as a conclusion I believe this card will not work in any gt70, I'm guessing this is the reason why a post like this hasn't been seen, someone may have tried and failed, like @TheQuentincc did.

So that is two results showing that a GTX 1080 CANNOT run in a GT70, please save your money and buy a gtx 1070 mxm and slot it in, there is virtually no difference between this castrated 1080 and an msi gtx 1070 mxm with the tdp unlocked at 150w!

I might make this a thread to be honest so no one else tries to go down the same route me and @TheQuentincc did!

But it does work on GT72 board ? When I bought my GT70 it was to test this card because I only had a Dell M6700 and more recently a M6800 which are not very compatible with pascal card :/
However, in my case I don't know if the card is working properly, when you tried it on the GT70, before installing drivers, was your card detected by GPU-Z, could you see what was in "advanced -> NVIDIA BIOS" ? and after installing drivers, does it act the same ?
Except of Alienware (like M17X R4 or 17R1) or maybe HP 8770W, it looks like there is no cheap platform to try out mxm card :/

Hi! I am sad you failed in this wonderful attempt! Did you tried to contact some VBIOS modder like Svet? Maybe somebody can come up with a working VBIOS! I don't see a reason why the 1080 should not work while 1070 does. And for the latter: Where do I find the post/guide of the guy that made it work in the GT70? I would be very interested in it. I know that a couple of guys around here tried it but I would not consider that a total success...

too expensive and too rare riser iirc, and if you are willing to use something like that, sell your laptop then buy a desktop.
