Nah, just jumping from N to ac will be future proof enough. don't waste your money.

you'll have 2 weeks to try it, just do the "wifi rain dance" with your laptop in every room and outside, you'll know if its worth keeping.

You mean having 6 to 8 antennas on a behemoth don't help? :vbtongue:

if they really wanted to make something that works well they'd make the antennas detachable still wired and let us put them at every corner of the house. make a bridge by itself.

hey it worked for old radios back in the day.

So what exactly is the difference between the original and revision AC 7260. Anybody know? Couldn't find an answer anywhere.

Not sure if you're responding to me, but I'm talking about the revised AC 7260, not the AC 7265.

Ac 7265 is a revised 7260 (5 added at the end of the number means minor revision for Intel cards). There is no revised 7260 other than that.

The problem is no one officially said it stands for Revised. You can look it up on Intel's website https://qdms.intel.com/Portal/SearchPCNDataBase.aspx?mm=923255

Earlier version - those launched in November 2013 have "product design" listed under key characteristic while those with R added have "Label" under characteristic and "Label update" under PCN Title.

In the other table (documents by parts) third and fourth lines show that product code 7260.HMWNBG 923255 has been change to 7260.HMWNBG. R 936133.

That seems like a name change. You can also open PDF files detailing each change - I haven't found anything indicating a new revision anywhere apart from the November 2013 change that lists "Update PCB to address possibility that WLAN may wake the platform unexpectedly from Sx states when AC power is applied to the platform."

That indicates that R is merely a product code change and no changes to PCB were made since the end of 2013.

I might be wrong of course but I am pretty sure I contributed a lot more time to solving this than any of those e-bay sellers who claim R means new revision.

Not exactly. Product Change Notification 113028 - 02 that Intel released in June 12th 2014 states that "The Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260, Intel® Dual Band Wireless-N 7260, and Intel® Wireless-N 7260 SKUs listed below will be discontinued on October 31, 2014 (DT SKUs September 26, 2014) as we transition to the new BT ROM SPIN product codes and MM numbers listed below." (emphasis mine)

There is no hardware change here like on Product Change Notification 112624 - 01 from November 2013 that I quoted above. So it seems it's the same card but new sticker.

If there was a hardware change there would have to be a Product Change Notification and I downloaded and read all Product Change Notifications for 7260 since its launch - the hardware was changed only once in November 2013.

I also think I should be doing something else on Friday, come to think of it

EDIT: No I didn't check them all - found a few more. Will be back.

EDIT 2: So I've checked all Product Change Notifications for 7260 and there is no mention of any change other than the one I already mentioned in Nov 2013.

Hey, I have SAGER NP5160 with this Wifi three wire antenna card, see pic. I want to put the new AC INtel 7260/7265. Wht antennas do I use for the two wire antenna 7260/65? And what it the latest part number to buy for this card. I will buy an appropriate AC router soon too. Currently have Cisco 3000 2010 era..

You should leave out the middle antenna (3) and connect 1 and 2 to corresponding connectors on 7260.
As for part numbers - it's extremely confusing as they seem to have changed it recently - see my post above yours.

I wouldn't bother too much about these numbers - get 7265 if you can and make sure it's 802.11ac rather than just 802.11n - that should be enough.

The Intel AC-7265NGW is a M.2 form factor wireless card and cannot be used to replace a 6300 that is mini pcie.

Besides the form factor the antenna connectors that attach to the 6300 won't fit the M.2 AC-7260NGW and AC-7265NGW

    @WhatsThePoint

Good point, I got them confused for a second - Intel 7260 is available in both mini PCI Express and M.2 while 7265 is only M.2

Okay, if I get the 7260 mini pcie version for my laptop, use the new drivers as stated, what else do I need to tweak to ensure it just works, doesnt drop off etc etc? Seeing a lot of modifications in advance settings that need to be done. Just want to ensure simple install and for the thing to work.

Just remember to uninstall the drivers before you remove the hardware and download the latest ones for it.

Why is it that you want to upgrade? If you don't need more than 450Mbps, your current Intel 6300 is just fine. It will give better 2.4Ghz performance than the 7260AC can, and will be completely trouble-free. If you are facing wireless issues, a new router is going to be all you need. Also if you ever use your computer outside of your home, chances are that you will be connecting to a 2.4Ghz network. I have an AC router and a bunch of wireless cards, and I have my 7260AC pulling fourth-line duty behind an Atheros AR9380, Intel 6300, and Intel 5300.

As I stated before about wireless "one thing for sure is that nothing is for sure".

I have a first revision mini pcie AC-7260HMW in a Sandy Bridge i7 2670 notebook that I received from GenTech before there were Windows 7 drivers for it.Sager was the 1st to post one.

This card works well for me on both bands paired with a Netgear R7000 from 25' and through 2 sheet rock walls

A desktop AC-7260 purchased last August also works well on both bands paired with the R7000 from 30'+ going through 3 sheet rock walls.

My 2.4ghz link speed is a max 300Mbps while the 5ghz is mostly at 780Mbps

Some driver versions were very good while others really sucked. The newest 17.14.0 is a keeper.

    EDIT:
I forgot to mention the M.2 AC-7260NGW I had was terrible. It was the stock card in an MSI GS60.I replaced it with a Killer N1526 that performs very well.

An M.2 AC-7265NGW was much better than the AC-7260NGW but not nearly as good as the Killer N1525 is.

Go to advanced driver settings via device manager and disable U-APSD. That's all.

    7260ac 5ghz have better throughput compare to 6300 3 stream 5ghz~ (on a ac router ofc~)

For user who just use internet and normal 1080p stream a n600 with intel 6200 are plenty good enough, and those were 4?5? years old stuff. Heck, a 4965agn will blow all the crappy ralink/realtek and intel 1 stream stuff they still putting in machines nowadays.

I'm not saying that the 7260AC will give problems or that it will not be adequate. But on connecting to any 2.4Ghz network, the 6300 is the better card by far. The 6300 has better range and reception on 2.4Ghz networks, and it has a maximum possible connection speed of 450Mbps compared to the 7260AC's 300Mbps. I got my 7260AC card in September from HTWingnut's giveaway and I tested it thoroughly at my parent's house in the US. The house is fairly large and has three wireless networks that all operate at 2.4Ghz. One is from an Actiontech Verizon Wireless G router from when FIOS came to town, one is a D-Link DIR-655 300Mbps 2.4Ghz router which was pretty pricy and one of the best routers you could buy at the time of purchase, and the third is a Netgear 300Mbps 2.4Ghz range extender. The Intel 7260AC's reception measured by Inssider to the routers was never as good at the 6300 or 5300's. If the router was close enough, throughput was the same, however. But at longer ranges, where the 6300 and 5300 showed some througput issues, the 7260AC had noticeably slower throughput and lags. Also the 6300 and 5300 could see and attempt to connect to a few neighbor's wireless networks (I guess 100 feet away through and through several walls), whereas the 7260AC could not see them. The 7260AC was also giving me other random connection issues, but I assume those have been fixed by drivers now. I currently use it only on Linux on a laptop that has just two antennas anyway. As far as 2.4Ghz is concerned, I'm 99% sure that the 7260AC is no better than an Intel 5100.

I don't remember that much about my 6300,it's been a few years since I last used it.I do remember it having lag issues and slow to connect coming out of sleep mode.I know I replaced it rather quickly with a Killer 1103 that in my notebook paired with a Netgear 4500 router performed much better. The Killer 1103 was a solid 450Mbps link speed on 5ghz while the Intel 6300 was up and down.

The Intel AC-8260(3x3) is coming with Skylark in a few months but in all likelihood will be M.2 only.

2.4 GHz performance is average on 7260. 7260's specialty is 5 GHz band. I get all of my 300 Mbps internet through WiFi . Local file transfers are even higher at 500 Mbps peak throughput.

5Ghz performance on any Intel card before the 7260AC or 7260AGN is relatively not very good. My main card is an Atheros AR9380, which is nearly identical to your Killer 1103. The AR9380 performs on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz like the Intel 6300 does on just 2.4Ghz. While the 7260AC can connect at a much higher speed, the AR9380 should be able to get a little better reception and range than the 7260AC. I have yet to try the 7260AC on AC though. I have my router set to just run wireless N.

Definitely only M.2 since the 7265AC is M.2 only as well. That card is a real upgrade to the 6300 because it shouldn't sacrifice any performance.

If anyone with a mini-pcie wireless card wants to use the 5Ghz band, a 7260 is really the only Intel card they should use.

    Thanks Whats The Point. :)

EDIT: I have upgraded my WiFi card from n6205 to AC7260, I like this card.
    n6205: 2.4GHz - 144Mbps + 5 GHz- 156Mbps = 300Mbps
    AC7260: 2.4GHz+5GHz = 700-866 Mbps.
    Driver: 17.13.11.5

After using this card for 2days, I have come across a problem and it has broken 2 of my metro programs, Finance and Weather making strange noise and the cursor is jumpy while on my Win 8.1 but Win 8 has no such problems. It's nothing serious but a minor irritation.
What I have done so far:
    1. Tried different drivers( Current 17.13.11.5)
    2. Tried switching Bandwidth.
    3. Tried different settings in Advanced tab (suggestions from this thread)
I am trying to upload a video but it seems to be difficult.

See if removal of the display driver and reinstall helps the cursor issue
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/display_driver_uninstaller.html

Do the same for the WiFi card and driver.
Right click on the wireless card name in Device Manager/Network Adapters
    Uninstall card/drivers/settings
    Reboot
    Install Intel v17.15.0.5

****Download needed drivers while you still have an Internet connection.

The AC-7260 is best on the 5ghz band

    Hi Whats The Point,
I have followed your instruction but with no luck, WiFi is fine and getting the full 866Mbps transfer rate, I have checked with the Diagnostic utility and it passed all tests, I think this problem is nothing to do with the Driver or the card but something to do with Windows 8.1, I am going to test with Win 10TP over the weekend and let you know the outcome, in the meantime, Thanks for your help and time :)

Has anyone used the 7265NGW? What laptops support this network card?

@DanteSands All laptops that have M.2 slot apart from those that whitelist cards like HP or Lenovo (where you'd have to get a card from notebook manufacturer or remove white-listing)

I've used the AC-7260NGW,AC-7265NGW and Killer N1525 in an MSI GS60 notebook that supports M.2 form factor wireless cards.

Many newer notebooks released in the last 6 months or so use the M.2 (NGFF) type wireless cards and antenna wires with MHF4 connectors.

While the now discontinued Intel AC-7260 has both a mini pcie and M.2 version the AC-7265 and Killer N1525 are only M.2 type.

IMO,the Killer N1525 is the best wireless card available today when paired with a quality 802.11ac 1750 or higher router.

Bluetooth 4.1 on future wireless cards should yield a better Bluetooth pairing experience.

Probably what we have now with 4.0 is about as good as it will get.

My Logitech BT M557 BT mouse is not too good on Windows 8.1 with the newest Intel BT driver for the AC-7260HMW.It pairs slightly better with a Killer N1525 in a different Windows 8.1 MSI notebook. It pairs very well on a Samsung Note Pro Android Tablet.

Just a heads up with BT on these. My laptop, NP700G7C, by default did not have BT enabled with this card. It did with the old 6250 that was in it. Also another user had put inn the revised card but to no avail as well. I tried the pin 51 tape hack and now BT is here. Apparently since we do not have a hardware switch for wireless there is none placed on the BT pin 51.

So I've read through most of this, but still unsure on whether or not to get this card due to the issues. At the moment i have a 6300, but need to get a different one as this does not gave BT. Should i just avoid this card all together?

    Maybe that's a Clevo thing?

I was good to go on an MSI GS60 once I installed the Bluetooth driver for the AC-7260NGW and AC-7265NGW(M.2 type)

Works the same with a Killer N1525 once the BT driver is installed(pairing issues in Windows 10 TP build 10056)

On an MSI GT780DX with the AC-7260 HMW(mini pcie type) I have a button that enables and disables Bluetooth once the driver is installed.

Actually mine is a Samsung. I think a lot of systems have this issue with not deactivating pin 51 for BT to function.

My bad,I see that now in your signature. When I saw the NP in the model name I assumed Sager>bad to assume anything.

I mostly have used MSI for quite a while and never needed to cover any pins.

I tried another brand a few times but had no luck at all with them.

Thanks, It took a bit to get the DL to take but I got them. It seems these are new WiFi drivers but not BT.
