You don't need the additional software.
These are the OFFICIAL 17.16.0.1 Intel Wireless ProSet drivers.
Other newer driver versions that are listed as WHQL are usually from an Intel OEM partner's site that have been tested and approved by Microsoft for use on Windows systems.
The smaller size files are driver only without the administrative tools.

Well, I installed the new chip, and new drivers 17.16.0.4 and this thing is significantly slower. I used the intel utility driver and it installed fine
What should the advanced settings be on this chip.Last edited: Jun 5, 2015 -

I'm having an odd issue with my intel 7260ac card in my Razer Blade 2014.
The connection constantly fluctuates, dropping from 80 mbps to barely having any connection then back up to 80.
However, if I install the drivers and do not reboot my computer after it installs, the issue disappears until I reboot again(it does prompt me to restart after installing).
Here are what the graphs on speedtest.net look like before and after a reboot.
Before(usually more consistent than shown):
After:
I am on windows 8.1 with the latest version of the driver for my network card. The issue still occurs with older versions of the driver and v18.
Any help is appreciated. I can provide any extra information if needed. Thanks!
Edit: I don't get the faster speeds when running the smaller installation file, only the larger one with the nice UI.Last edited: Jul 11, 2015 -

Which band are you using?
AC is a 5ghz technology and used mostly for file transfers across devices connected to the home network, mostly NAS setups.
For downloading files there will be little or no difference between "AC" and "N".Downloading is about your Internet service and the sites you are downloading from.
Make sure you are on 5ghz and security set to WPA2 AES only.
Is U-APSD disabled in the AC-7260 Advanced settings and "Turn Off To Save Power" box unchecked? -
-
ok, too many different drivers floating around, which ones should I use, there's also driver only versions and ones with software, which doesn't seem to do much.
dropped one of these cards into an ASRock z87m OC Formula board recently and want to keep it up to date -
latest from intel is stable enough.

But the info in the package says Windows 10 was removed as supported for driver/PROSet enterprise package..
Regardless, thanks for the post.
Edit:
The only reason why I'm so cautious is because the Intel 7260 didn't exactly start off a very stable card when it came to driver support, I got fed up I threw my card in the closet and went back to my older Intel 6205 and haven't look back but by looks I might give the Intel 7260 another shot once I upgrade to Windows 10.Last edited: Jul 30, 2015 -

The AC-7260 should have been a 5ghz only wireless card. The AC technology is a 5ghz only tech. Most issues were reported when owners used the 2.4ghz band.
I've always used the 5ghz band with the 7260
I know well about the bad AC-7260 drivers in the beginning. I've had the AC-7260 in this notebook since about 2 weeks before there were any Windows 7 drivers for it.I think Sager Notebooks was first to post a W7 driver.
Probably 16.0.6 was the 1st good driver.
I got this mini pcie AC-7260 thanks to Ken at GenTech PCMrPromaster likes this. -
I went through two different 7260 cards when the card was first released before the return date expired, both on Windows 8/8.1 and both had disconnection issues on the 5Ghz band with two different routers before I gave up.
I haven't tried the 17.x drivers with the card I have tucked away in storage but I've been meaning to try the card again since I've re-read this thread and seems the drivers are pretty stable now.
I noticed when Windows 7 drivers first came out for the card, the installation file size was different than that of the Windows 8/8.1 installation file even downloading from Intel's official website thus after initially having driver and disconnection issues with the card, I'm now pretty weary about the exact OS the downloaded file is for safe measure (on my end).
My experience with the card thus far has not been good but it could very well have been my older laptop being white-listed for the card to work, I'm unsure but I do know I tried almost everything else at that time to make sure it was not a faulty card I was getting; I'm looking forward to trying the card on my current laptop and Windows 10 when I decide to upgrade to the new OS.Last edited: Jul 31, 2015 -

First make a backup image of your current OS then run the upgrade app.
After you do the upgrade you can uninstall it and restore to the image of your current OS..Later you can clean install Windows 10 from an ISO and get activated.

I'm waiting for things to get more fleshed out with a SR1 rumored to be out in August for Windows 10 plus my current setup on Windows 8.1 Pro is perfect at the moment and I don't feel the need to upgrade until more of the software I use gets Windows 10 certification.

I've never used the Intel Driver Update Utility
Download the driver and install it from the exe after the present driver/software is completely removed
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25170
You might want to try Uninstalling the AC-7260 and driver/software in Device Manager by right clicking on the AC-7260 in Network Adapters and choosing uninstall.
Check Control Panel > Programs and Features that the Intel ProSet Wireless Software is removed
Reboot and the install the driver from the downloaded exe.
Use custom if you want the Admin Tools. -

Installed Official Intel Wireless ProSet Version 18.12.1.2 dated August 18,2015 on an Alienware M11xR1 with an AC7260 card.
Seems to be stable and working well during the few hours I've been using it. -
Ionising_Radiation ?v = ve*ln(m0/m1)
Installed the latest set of drivers, 18.12.1.2, and I still get disconnectivity with my 5GHz 802.11ac network, and sometimes the AC-7260 card doesn't even see the network. Distance is not an issue - I am about 3 metres away from the router and I am in almost direct line-of-sight from the router. The 2.4GHz 802.11n network works perfectly fine. What's wrong?
Intel 7260?
