i know man both are pretty good....
-
I doubt it, because the 9800GTs are 2x1GB while the 8800GTXs are 2x512MB.
-
i think they are both 512 mb ...im not sure
-
hey man if u dont like ur dell i might get it
-
That's what I am saying. The main point is the people who got the system $999(with tax it's almost 1075), get all the upgrades, X9000, extra hard drive, extra memory, and change the Blu-ray, and you really think they can sell them at $1800 effectively? DO THE MATH. X9000 for the best price $400, Blu-ray $100, Memory $50? That's already almost $1600 after all the upgrades. And you still just got 1-year of warranty. Selling them at at least $1750 can break you even. $2000? It may happen in the dream for the ever-changing laptop marketing here.
-
I will use it, not sell it. But if you are interested in the 7811FX or G50Vt, let me know.
-
sorry man i was looking for something in SLi.... but if i dont get anything ill pm u
-
The core itself gets accessed to 512MB each. When you have two cores in SLi, however, you will not be able to use full 1GB of video memory. It will still be 512MB in SLi mode. This is why Dual-GPU PCB is not as fast as the second fastest model in Nvidia. Now the GTX295 is the fastest, but if it's compared to GTX285(which is what I also have), it's not faster in 2560x1600 8x/16x SLiAA.
-
i thought that the 9800GT was 2x512...
-
That just shows that the "deal" is priced at what the market is willing to pay. I suppose it's only a "deal" because other laptops are just overpriced.
Still waiting on mine to change from "in production" to shipped. Anybody know how long the production stage usually lasts? -
First of all, I know that SLI mode only can utilize half of the video memory, since it mirrors video memory rather than concatenating.
Second, why is it that the 8800GTX in SLI is listed as having 512MB of memory (2x512MB, like I said!!!) and the 9800GT in SLI are listed as having 1GB of memory (again, 2x1GB like I said!)
EDIT: nevermind, it's the 8700GTs that are 512MB (2x512MB, right?).
I'm an idiot and step down, being incorrect. -
I think the reason why mine went through so fast was that I paid extra for overnight shipping.
-
I can't help it........I have an ear-to-ear grin!!!!!!!!!! I'm posting this from my brand-new beast!
-
Marketing plot is the best answer to your question.
-
So the truth is, they're 2x512, aren't they?
Man, that pisses me off. I assumed for some bizarre reason that if they said 1GB, they meant 1GB usable. -
Yes, the damn truth is as long as Nvidia lives, we will be surrounded by the sense of 'ILLUSION'!
-
yes the 1gb is the TOTAL in sli. each card is 512mb. as i said though pleas let me know if you get it and dont want it before sending it back i have funds waiting as of right now for the time being
-
Yes Z, there are currently 3 people all jonesin' for this laptop if I don't want it. You're first in line. I'm not gonna be a jerk and mark up the price, just whatever it cost me + cost of shipping to you.
Assuming my order doesn't get canceled, which I don't think it will... though it IS taking a suspiciously long time to go through. -
yeah just the 8700 are 512
-
I got it today it's sitting in the box and I probably won't open it until June unless I sell it....and yes it's on eBay.
-
yeah man if i were u i would do the same
if i were u i would open and use and then u sell to me cheaper....jk
-
or me.. lol
-
I'm holding out for "allpowerful"....in the meantime I'll see if it sells on eBay. Doesn't hurt to try. If I end up deciding I'm keeping it I'll definitely get the x9000 of off eBay.
-
yeah but still if u dont want i might buy it.....
-
The "allpowerful" will most likely be more powerful, and will also rip a hole out of your wallet more powerfully.
-
lolololoolololololoolololol
and the sad thing is that this is true
-
Well I found an OEM x9000 for $300 so I jumped on it, should be here in a few days, really liking the XPS so far.
Coming from a Toshiba X205 though, the sound is so terrible lol. Well its not terrible its normal, using the Toshiba for so long made me forget how much the speakers rock in the X205.
-
Is this deal done?
-
Yeah, the link was pulled a few days ago.
-
my goodness how much longer until someone posts some pics of their system, it seems quite a few people have received their systems by now.
I also ordered next-day delivery but seems their sitting on my order, it was placed on the 15th... -
Well, I placed mine on the 17th with free shipping and it's still in production. So uhh....not sure if it's really in production or not.
-
Typical clueless SDers as usual tries the old buy up inventory and then gouge up the prices.
I know some folks think that they can flip these for $2k, they may actually end up driving down the prices. I give it a week before we see more 1730s start flooding ebay and driving the prices down even more.
If ebay decides to bump up the Live Cashback up to 10~12%, you may actually get a good deal on ebay instead of dell.
Typical 1730 config is about $1200 with some of the cheap options thrown in. Then you add taxes and shipping, ouch it adds another $150 to the price tag.
So you spent $1350 on this rig and you could only sell for $1499 on ebay? That's not good profit. -
total with tax and free shipping was $1,068.93 based on earlier quote for $999 system.
i would've gotten one if i had enough games that i wanted to play at high settings. otherwise it would've sat idle on my desk collecting dust until i was free from studies which is after summer. congrats to everyone who received their systems

sheesh, I hope this guy isnt really thinking he could get this much for them. -
He's hoping for the uneducated buyers. I've seen at least 3 now $1500 and under including my own.
-
1500 is more reasonable, any takers or lookers yet for yours??
-
In the first 24hrs I have a lot more views and watchers than I did with my previous sales so I guess that's good. The watches may be a bunch of SD'ers trying to see what it sells for.
-
True, and people trying to figure out how to scam you... thats one thing I hate. I think ebay needs to work on that.
-
Yup, three more people got into the M1730 9800M GT SLi eBay market today...Gosh...
-
What, that's you? Did you purchase that CPU yesterday noon?
-
Don't forget it's almost $45 for final-value fees on eBay, $45 on Paypal, AND $30 for shipping. So you see how much you can really make.
-
lol. I just changed mine to an OBO.
-
Actually a little follow-up here. Getting laptops and selling them on eBay take you a lot of capital. $1100 and you can really make $50-$100 effectively. I think it's better to put it in stocks, seriously. If the Dell's M1730 with 9800M GT SLi cost $500 in that link, then yes, it's a good profit.
-
I wouldn't go that far. I make a lot more money swing trading than trying to buy and sell on eBay.
-
Consider the fact that a lot of stocks are easy to go up 5%-8% these days, if you really have capital of $1000-$1500, it's just better to put it in stocks. Computer hardware investment is damn horrible now.
-
Link ?
-
It's not allowed without putting it in the NBR Market Place. My eBay name is maldicao if you want to find it.
-
Correct. I did it once and learned my lesson. No personal links.
-
Anyone here have one for sale?
-
Mandrake does.
