the x9000 is the highest santa rosa CPU and the 1730 support over clocking via multipliers in BIOS. only extremes though

it will game very good in the mean time :)

Nvidida GPU's are not cpu dependent

Any game at a low resolution will be bottlenecked at a low resolution

high resolution is GPU bottleneck :)

    I agree.

You will find that if you're to purchase just that GPU part alone from the Dell Spare Parts department, it will cost $1,000+! IMO, this XPS M1730 offer is not only a very good deal, it is simply "unbelievably" good! :) So for once, this is the kind of deal that "if you believe it is too good to be true, IT REALLY IS TRUE!" :)

This is so tempting, but I recently made a commitment to play video games less.

This would not have a positive effect on that.

    I have a decent desktop (E8400/6GB PC2-6400/8800GTS G92/500GB 7200.11 RAID 1) that I do a lot of gaming on.
I could of course buy this, upgrade it to 4GB of RAM, add in BT, Intel 5300, RAID1 500GB 7200RPM drives, Vista Business X64, and an X9000 and sell off my desktop...
But by then I've spent $1700, and I won't even get $700 for my desktop.
This would only be slightly better than my desktop is.
And I will move this once every month.
That's a lot to spend for something that will replace something you already have and is working well.

If I could get $700 for my desktop I'd consider doing what I said above, just because then I could sneakily play video games in another room while my girlfriend is sleeping.

THIS IS HARD ENOUGH AS IT IS, STOP MAKING ME WANT TO BUY ONE MORE.
Thankfully it's not Montevina or the order would've already been placed.

    LMAO :D

I couldn't pass this up, I actually bought it within 10-20 mins of reading the post in the sager forum a couple days ago. I didn't even think it would go through, because I thought it was a mistake or something lol. But its real, my order is currently "In Production".

This thing is gonna blow my X205 away, just hope I can adjust to normal laptop speakers.

Good lord, I hope this deal lasts until the twentieth. Or at least about three more days.

I want to pull the trigger, but I'm going to aim first, to push that metaphor to its absolute limits.

Thanks for the info. Turns out: 1) I assumed the Dell rep was referring to a hardwired limitation, as opposed to something that can be fixed via the BIOS, and 2) the Dell rep neglected to tell me that said BIOS existed. I have since done a lot of homework and now know that I will be just fine with the PM965 chipset. So, long story short (too late) I finally ordered mine. Now maybe I can get some sleep.

Thanks to everyone for the help!

To buy, or not to buy

:X i don't think that a dual core will be enough even for gaming in the next year, santa rosa is slow, the battery time doesn't exists (ok i know it's a DTR but everyone likes battery time).

But this thing is very well built, incredible cheap...

    Oh god :X

nomoredell, why do you keep saying it's for WoW? WoW is not even SLI optimized neither does it require a strong video card to run at max.

Also, what's the return policy on this? Will they charge a 15% restocking fee? Free shipping back if I have issues?

Also, will the XPS be realistically bottlenecked by the Santa Rosa and DDR2 or only on rare occasions?

How did you get them to place the order? after more than an hour and 3 different CSR, I was not able to, each one of them seemed more interested in pushing the xps studio 16 and had an excuse for not being able to pull the system from my cart, finally after 1 hour my stupid iphone(hate that stupid phone) died and by time I could call again they were closed (I shall try again tomorrow). Did you give them the catalog ID or something? please master share your secret with this young padawan, thank you. LOL

didnt ask i would just "get" the disc when you get the system and do a fresh install anyway i had a few 1730's and they all ran much better with a fresh vista install and the drivers. just use the key on the notebook it will activate both 32 and 64bit
