i wanted to go smaller but i miss having it to be honest.. i wish i didnt sell mine i went through a dozen screens (that i replaced) and had a flawless one in that thing

 

This will be my second one also. I sold my last one 2 weeks ago. Great timing I guess. I played FO3 without a hitch on it.

I actually went through an Employee & Education Purchase Plan (EPP) rep. I called them up, told them that I knew that they were trying to move the M1730, and that I had a configuration saved in my cart that I would like to purchase. I wasn’t able to get the EPP discount (and oh, how I tried to get it), but they didn’t have too much trouble pulling up my cart and placing the order.

That was all I did. Maybe the EPP reps are easier to deal with? I also paid using my Dell Account, so maybe that helped things along.

I just called and mine is in the "boxing stage". Why would they create a stage for something that takes 2 minutes to do? If it's really being boxed then it should be shipped by Monday but I doubt it.

next it will be ''sleeping stage'' that's because ur laptop is tired from the stressful day that it had today(packing, boxing, cleaning,etc) so it will rest for the rest of the day because of that

If I called do you think I could get it downgraded to a lower CPU (like a T5500), 2x512MB of RAM, and a lower hard drive (80-120GB 5400RPM)?

If I could get that for like... 800, I'd buy instantly.


EDIT: Well, I called. I talked to three different reps. I tried really hard, but none of them would do it. One of them admitted that they're no longer allowed/capable of doing this because Dell loses too much money like that.

 

Funny...when I was getting mine, it took 4 days in the boxing stage. I think they were out of boxes that day

 

Online, Dell says mine was shipped, though the estimated delivery date is 6/1. We'll see when it actually arrives...

 

yeah boxes are really important in the process and i think dell is losing their customers cuz they dont have enough boxes

 

The Dell shipping stages can be confusing

The "Boxing stage" includes the bulk (full cargo plane) transit time from the point of origin (Malaysia, China, Ireland, etc) to Nashville, then it is shipped from Nashiville to the purchaser.

What kind of difference would I see between the bottom-line basics (8100, 2GB Ram) and adding $300 (9300, 4GB Ram, Planting a Tree for Me...)?

I don't think the 6mb cache difference matters to me (no intense processing beyond gaming), right? So probably leaning toward t8300.

I'm working on a 5-year-old AMD64 3500+, so ANYTHING would seem faster.

Mine is in "production". Darnit.....when I ordered mine on Thursday, the blue was default, gray or red were $40 more. Today, from the link above, the gray is the default. I really wish I could have had grey.

no im going to keep em since i dont want the blue ones. im gonna swap em for grey. im telling you they are like 9.40 each directly from dell...

and yes last time i actually removed the actual ageia card from the system and it ran much better and actually performed BETTER than when the card was in it. total waste of money

 

Yeah, I figured they were just pop-on/pop-off things. If I can get them from Dell afterwards for half the price, that's what I'll do. Also found the Blu-ray drive on e-bay (panasonic UJ-120) for about $80 - 100. Again, half of what Dell charges. I'm gonna get one of those when I get my new laptop.

If anybody has the dell part numbers for the wings and the blu-ray drives, I'd be interested in seeing them posted.

all you have to do is call dell and tell them you want the grey wings. they have them right in their system from dell parts. trust me thats how i got them. i had all 4 colors.

 

Yeah the part number they reference in spare parts for the gray insert is HR260.

 

I'm too lazy. Though taking the LCD off would be a trivial task... meh... it's $40. I don't want a blue laptop, and I don't want to ditz around either.

 

Get 2x2gb sticks not 1 4gb stick. Look em up at newegg. The 800mhz ram downclocks to 667 MHz.

 

It's not too hard to replace but the bezel is easy to break. The plastic tabs can snap right off.
