The corsair from newegg for $29.99 can be dual-channeled if I get two right?

    yes.

but dual-channel is not important anymore. you barely get a 2-5% performance gain in real world benchmarks.

Back in the Athlon XP and Pentium 4 days, dual channel definitely gave a good performance increase.... but its not noticeable anymore in current computers/notebooks.

Not sure what the point is of Micron chips if you can't overclock. I'm considering the Kingston deal, however.

Yep they use Micron chips. It matters what the chips are because micron is noted to use good chips. Would you want ok chips in your notebook memory or known to be great chips in your notebook. I'd take the later and also knowing the price of the ocz is awesome.

yes these sticks will work for the new M1330.

but Newegg (to my knowledge) does not ship to Canada, you can contact them to confirm this.

Where was that post about some hardware still not seeing all 4GB? Didn't you say the 945 chipsets and earlier would still only get around 3GB?

    945 cant use 4gb :(

Also I had gotten 2x2gb of OCZ awhile back and the IC's were unknown to me, they were not micron from what I could tell, I heard OCZ does not use a set IC for there ram but just uses what ever is avalible to them at the momeent.

    Correct.

The Napa platform using the mobile Intel 945 chipset is capped at 3gigs of RAM.... at low level (meaning the motherboard can see and support).

The Santa Rosa platform with the mobile Intel 965 chipset does not have that limitation, so it will see the full 4gigs (2 x 2gb)

imo i dont really like kingston very much some think im crazy but i think they are overpriced and ive had issues with many of their chios in the past.. my first choice is always ocz but usually not as cheap as others. i just picked up some patriot ram and like it a lot.. geil, pqi, patriot, and pny all use good chips... i was in the same boat and sine i dont usually buy notebook ram (usually desktop) i learned a ton by reading and reading, but grab a deal while you can prices seem to be on the rise for a while again

Elpida are quite good as well in my opinion. It really doesn't matter all that much, not liek your going to be overclocking or anything.

Any memory from Kingston is considered great quality and highly compatible... since they will back it and will swap it if you have any issues (no questions asked).

@Militant_X: You can use ddr2-667, but it will downclock to ddr2-533. There is no performance difference between 533 and 667 though so no worries.

Vista on a single core machine?!? Why...?

Well, I don't have the money to buy another laptop so I tested it out with my old laptop. It runs decent and casual work which is mostly what I do with the computer. I do want a upgrade but can't afford it right now.

wow, Kingston is one of the most compatible for all systems.

you should try to remove the other stick and see if the Kingston works, then try to put into another slot, then try both again in different slots.

it should take less than a couple of minutes to do all of this.
