Kingston uses multiple chips, their own, Samsung, and a few more types.

I have the kingston chips in my notebook, works perfect for over a year and a half now.

And all of my desktops use the ValueRAM... no probs. :)

the Page Memory is the caching of programs and settings for faster access when used at a later time.

    Its also called Prefetch.

I would not worry about the Page File size fluctuating, its very normal.

You can look at its settings in the:
    - System Properties > Advanced tab
    - Performance settings > Advanced tab
    - Virtual Memory.

The OCZ RAM you linked above isn't for notebooks 'cause it's 240-pin...

But you can get 2GB OCZ RAM from newegg.com cheaper than GEIL too, for just $94.99 (after MIR) plus shipping: OCZ DDR2 667 SODIMM PC5400

    cheers

Just ordered the Kingston 2x1GB kit from Fry's with overnight shipping. I got the Kingston because they rarely put out bad RAM. If the information on the website is correct, I should be getting it tomorrow and I will let people know if it works in a Vostro.

can anybody tell me the difference for pc5300 vs pc5400

i see most ddr667 mem is pc5300, and I wanted to get this one
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227236

    but pc5400 is stopping me

I am planing to use it on my Sager 2090 when I recieve it.

also who thinks what is better: 2 gig(1gig x 2) in dual channel vs 1gig + 2gig in single

    thanx

More ram is always better then dual channel. The slight performance increase in dual channel won't match a whole extra gig of ram.

updated current listed items. (working on new ones now)

And added these notes to clear up the confusion:

Note 1b: All Santa Rosa [w/ mobile Intel 965 chipset] notebooks WILL NOT take advantage of DDR2-800.... it will just be underclocked to 667. So do not waste your money, just get DDR2-667. Only a few notebooks [w/ desktop Core 2 Duo's (Conroe)] at the moment can take advantage of the DDR2-800 memory. Thats it.

    :GEEK: DDR2 PC2-5300 vs. DDR2 PC2-5400 :GEEK:
    - PC2-5300 and 5400 are [technically] all the same modules and run with the same speed but different manufacturers like to label their product bit differently. 667 x 8 = 5336 so what is the correct answer in your opinion; 5300 or 5400? Marketing is marketing and because of that you should always make sure you know what you are buying.
    - However, Corsair said that the reason why they use the PC2-5400 markings in their modules is that they use 675 MHz clock speed to test the modules. This means that the modules marked with 5400 have actually passed the test, thus justifying this higher rating.
    - and from Note 1b (from above): Santa Rosa platform notebook will still only use up to 667.

Hi i have Lenovo 3000 N200 with t7100 processor. It came installed with 1gb(2 x 512mb sticks). I want to upgade it to a minimum of 2gb as i have vista. What would you people suggest?

    1. A single 2gb stick to make it 2.5gb

    or

    2. Two 1gb sticks to make it 2gb.

I have an integrated intel video card.

Does 2gb vs 2.5gb make a real difference. I was looking for somehting within a 100 bucks and both the options are within my reach.

So plzzzzzz give ur opinion. Thanks

I'll go with choose 1. A single 2gb stick to make it 2.5gb as more ram is always better.

yup, more RAM is better than matched sticks. Dual channel is not worth much anymore.

Just so you know, the 2GB (1x2GB) OCZ $15 rebate is dead now...expired 8/15/07.

Also, I know that you say brand name is irrelevant...but which of Transcend or OCZ is better? They may use the same parts alright, but TS or OCZ are the people I'd have to deal with if there was a memory failure and I'd like to know who has the better reputation with customer service.

Thanks for pointing that out. I might just pull the trigger now on some RAM for my laptop.

    Edit:
I ended up buying it (Ordered around 330EDT). Newegg shipped same day and I had it the following day :) (with UPS 3-Day). Installed easily in my W3J and worked flawlessly. Ran memtest just to be sure and it came back with nothing after it had been running for at least an hour (at which point I just turned it off).

The Frys deal for the Crucial 1GB DDR2-667 SODIMM Notebook Memory has gotten a bit better. The price went up, but its now free shipping!

So its $24.99 for 1GB shipped AR. A good price! I'm in for 2GB's. :)

The only real problem with rebates (for me) is that I've been burned by them before. Manufacturers always try to get out of it in my experience, and I stopped counting rebates into my purchasing decisions.

But for items within a few dollars of each other in value, I'll get the one without the rebate (even for a few extra $).

Time dealing with rebates is too valuable...

Edit: The CompUSA will only sell the 2x1024 and will not part with the 2048 stick for this price because they said the ad was in error. Sorry guys.

    Sale ends on 8/18/2007
This may or may not be nationwide, but it is valid in Baton Rouge for sure. CompUSA has 2 GB 667MHz RAM made by PNY for 89.99.

    NO REBATES OR OTHER HOOPS!
