Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

Santa Rosa platform can accept DDR2-800 memory... but its downclocked to 667.

There is little to no performance differences for 667 or 800... especially for notebooks.

Is there any point to getting more than 2GB of memory for a non-gaming laptop? I was wondering if I should get 1x2GB instead of 2x1GB for future expandability.

if you are not gaming, or doing any heavy resource work (like Photoshop and such)... than 2 GB should be fine.

I would suggest 1x 2GB. That way you don't have to worry about replacing 2 sticks should you want to upgrade to 4GB. Do you already have a laptop with RAM in it? If so, all the more reason to get 1x 2GB because you could use on of the modules you currently have in addition to the single 2GB stick - ex: 1x 512MB + 1x 2GB = 2.5GB.

Chaz- if you were going to do that, would you leave the 512mb where it is and just put the 2gb one in the open slot, or would you move the 512mb to the open slot and put the 2gb where the 512mb was?

    Hello,
AW has reduce his price on m9750's memory (-24$).
So if i buy 2*1Gb aftermarket, i'll only save 14$, does-it still worth it ?
About the warranty of the sticks, should i prefer the 2 sticks aftermarket (warranty for life . . .) or the AW's ones (just for 1 to 3 years depend on the m9750 warranty ? ? ?) ?
If i use the 2 sticks aftermarket it won't remove my m9750's warranty ?
For 14$ more should i buy my memory from AW ?
    Thanks for your help.

Using aftermarket RAM will not remove the warranty for the rest of the system, if you're in the USA. It's the law.

    Thanks for your answer over.
Wich kit should be the most performant for my m9750 ? (and compatible ?).

    PC-5300 cas 4 Oo ? Does it exist ? I don't trust those ebay's noname :0.
    What about the "configuration" ??? "128Meg x 64" - "128x8 So-DIMM" - "64 X 8 Configuration (Low Density - compatible with all Laptops)" : What are the differences ?
    All the pc-5300's sticks Cas 5 are 5-5-5-15 ?
    I should order my m9750 in two days . . .
I hesitate between the Crucial and the Gskill (+26$ for the gskill), does the Heat Spreader makes a difference about the temperature evacuation ?
    Thanks for your help :).

Everyone (including jpep13) that has a Core 2 notebook needs to look at the DDR2-533 and 667 sections on the first page of this thread.

    Score!

Just got back from Frys, and they had a better deal for Crucial 1GB for $24.99 (44.99 - 20 MIR)! Unless you're rebate shy, or need more than one stick you might have to use a different address (one per household), this is a good buy. It's in the flier this morning.

EDIT- now online price reflects $24.99 w/rebate here.

how is fry's about rebates?? and which would you go for the crucial or the kingston ram both great deals imo.. thanks wish i could find a crazy 2gb per stick deal to have 4gb total... thats what i really want.. maybe the crucial would do for now till they drop again if they do.. thanks again

also being its one rebate per household should i do 2 separate orders for it?? like 1 under the wife's name then one under my name... thanks again

Zfactor. That link you showed is for desktop memory. Most core 2 desktop are using 800mhz ram... Now for most notebooks with even the santa rosa chipset the 667 is fine. Most people will not be able to overclock ram because of factory bios not allowing it. There isnt any performance increase with getting 800mhz ram and putting it into a system where it will run at 667mhz.

well now since that deal is done someone please help me find the cheapest 4gb total setup... or another smokin deal like that 25$ one.. i leave the room to put the baby back to sleep as im filling out the checkout from fry's for those... i come back less than 1 hour later after she finally went back to sleep and click refresh .... bam 40$ a stick now..

this deal is available from 7.27-7.31. i ordered 1 last night and another 1 today from a different card and address. total cost was $97.40. the $40 of rebates takes about 2 months to get but i have a savings account i use to deposit rebates so the wait is not too much of an issue.

a secret for those that want to buy the patriot from newegg.... get someone on live chat.. show them the cesell link for 95.30 each... they had a rebate that ended tonight but they will match the price of cesell... i just did it and it was super easy.. 95.30 may not be the cheapest for 2gb chips but its not horrible either.. and ill still try to send the 20$ patriot rebates in lol.. you never know..
total was 189.98 for 4gb of 5300 ram

    GeIL 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) for $33 after $12 rebate and $5 shipping.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144068

Shipping kind of kills this deal, but I think this is the 1GB version of the 2x2GB pack posted above, and the price is a little cheaper than the 1GB PC5300 modules that are posted.
