After googling the model and cas, majority of the results were CL5. It must've been a typo. but it's best to call them just to make sure.

Also, I believe that is two 1 GB sticks rather than one 2 GB stick.

I just put in the order for my HP DV9500t and didn't bother upgrading the RAM through them because I know they are way more expensive. Anyways, I've been looking around for some good deals on RAM, but I want to make sure I get RAM that is not only compatible with my laptop, but performance RAM for gaming. I am looking at getting 4GB of RAM (I ordered 64-bit Vista Ultimate) and I wanted all of your opinions on some good gaming RAM for me to get. Price isn't a huge factor, but the performance gain of the RAM has to justify the price. So if you can give me any suggestions on manufacturers, specs, etc on RAM that would be great!

I was looking through Newegg and found these manufacturers:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010260381+1309121118&name=4GB+(2+x+2GB)
I was only looking at the 667Mhz, not the 800Mhz because I know that my laptop can't handle it. What are your opinions?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Greg,

I took a look at them and the price is great, Thanks! Just one question though, will they run slower than a dual channel kit? Does the HP dv9500t even have dual channel for the RAM?

I just want to make sure that I get the best RAM I can get and have no regrets after I buy it.

    Thanks again in advance!

No...because two RAM sticks that are exactly the same will always run in DC. So two of those Transcend will still run in DC.

The Core 2 chipset supports DC as well, so put it all together and your RAM will run in DC. So it won't run slower at all!

The Transcend sticks will run in dual channel if your laptop supports it, which I'd bet dollars to donuts that it does.

Edit: Sigh... beat out again. I gotta get faster at this.

Do heat spreaders on RAM make a difference? Once I get my laptop I will be undervolting the cpu as well as replacing the stock cpu goo with arctic silver, and I was just wondering if its worth it to get heat spreaders for the new RAM.

    Thanks in advance!

heat spreaders do not really affect anything with the performance or stabilty.

especially since most notebooks do not overclock

If you have a 1gb stick and a 2gb stick but the ram is the same speed, does it still run Dual Channel? It seems like I read that it does but I'd still like to make sure.

No, the RAM has to be matched in size for it to run in dual channel mode. It's frankly not something to be worried about, from what I have read you can expect a 2-3% difference in performance between dual channel and mono channel. Fairly negligible.

well a good price for Canada can be determined by converted the US$ to the CAD$... in the listed items.

There are many good sites that ship to Canada (too bad Newegg is not one of them)

Any 200 pin DDR2 PC 5300 or PC 5400 (both 667 MHz) stick of ram will do. The link here is about as good of a deal as you can find for a compatible 2GB stick.

so, and i'm sure this has been asked many times before, what should i do. 2x1g ram or 2.5g, meaning one stick 512mb one stick 2gb. i know there's probably not a total agreement but i want to do gaming so i'm thinking just more memory in general will benefit me the most?

In my opinion, yes, go with the 2.5GB total. From what I've seen on the internet (no personal experience with dual channel), running matched sticks of RAM to take advantage of dual-channel technology only nets a 5% gain in performance, tops. An extra 512MB is more useful to more people.

Hmm, the link works for me. And you have to consider shipping from newegg, personally, I'd rather pay $95 with free shipping than have to bother with a rebate and end up saving a negligible amount of money.

    Hello !
    Received my Aw m9750.
Changged the 2*512Mo stock to 2*1Gb stock, then Vista don't boot : bs at Vista loading.
Doing memtest : errors (a lot)...
The two sticks of 1Gb are Crucial's : CT2KIT12864AC667 (you had recommanded it here on the first thread).
    What to do... ?
Will try to reopened my laptop to test the sticks one by one...
How to know if there is just a stick wich have a problem with memetest ?
With the Addresse (part of memory where the problem occured) ?
But after that, how to know wich slot is the 2nd and wich slot is the first xD ?
    Thanks for the help.

the slots have an order in which they test.

look for marking with DIMM1 or DIMM2

    or DIMM A .... DIMM B

    etc...

or you can just leave on stick in at a time and test it. :)

    Thanks for your answer Gophn,
on memtest, in the "adresse" column, if there is many errors befor 1024Mb and after 1024Mb, does it mean that the first stick and the second stick of 1Gb have problem ? Or should it be preferable to test each stick one by one ?
By the way, i think i'll get back to the SAV the two sticks...
    Thanks for your help.

One said me that it mean that the two sticks are defficients.
    So go to crucial's SAV...
    An other question :
    I remarqued this :
The tRAS by defaut on the stock's sticks is 13, and my crucial's one is 15, could it be the system that force the crucial's sticks to be on tRAS13 : and then none stability ?
But theorically, i think that thoses crucials should handle that tRAS, but not sure at all.
    Any ideas about that ?
Or do the system (alienware m9750) simply adapt to the crucial's spd : 5-5-5-15 ?
    Thanks

Wow Fry's just went to the top of my list for online venders. I placed my order at the time when I lasted posted on here saying I was gonna buy the ram from Fry's...which was sometime before midnight last night and guess what? I got it today at 2pm, talk about quick service. Granted, they did ship from some other city in Ohio. Right now the 2gb ram is running great, but I haven't tested with memtest yet. I've never used memtest before, so I need to read up on how it works and stuff.

Okay -- I have to ask this novice question. Be prepared. It seems I've been doing this a lot lately. ;)

I'm about to place an order tonight for an HP 8510p. It's arriving with 1GB ram and I plan to upgrade it.

Considering it will ship with HP's brand of 1GB, would it be okay to mix brands and save by just purchasing a 2GB stick?.

    I've heard Crucial/Corsairs are a good choice.

Looking at their website to find what RAM I need :
"... you should install in identical pairs (preferably in kits) for optimal performance."

I have looked at the 4GB Ram debate. For my OS (Windows XP Pro) I'll only utilize 3.5GB ram, correct?.

So .. would going 3GB be a problem since it technically is not a matching pair? (1 GB stick and a 2 GB stick)
