Utilizing a non-matched pair is just fine, you'll get more performance out of 3GB non matched than you would out of 2.5GB matched. Go ahead and just order a 2GB stick, and don't worry too much about the brand. As long as it's got a warranty and decent return/exchange options, you're golden.

Edit: 2.5GB matched? I must not be thinking straight. The comparison I wanted to make was between 3GB unmatched and 2GB matched, or even 2.5GB unmatched and 2GB matched. Sorry for the stupid mistake :)

I have 2.5gigs of ram right now unmatched and it runs great. I'm actually playin Battlefield 2142 at 1280x800 with high settings (with the AA turned on to 2x). I also played the demo for Bioshock close to the high setting. I only have a 8400m gt, so I was surprised how different my laptop performed compared to what I have been reading around on this forum about only playin those games in low-med settings.

I am about to upgrade my Toshiba Satellite P100-195, which has 2x 512MB (DDR2533). I´m not sure which of the following options would be better:
    1 - Buy 1x 2GB DDR2 667 - I would have a total of 2.5GB, but running at 533MHz
    2 - Buy 2x 1GB DDR2 667 - I would have a total of 2GB only, but running at 667MHz

    Any comments are highly appreciated!!!

#2 is obviously more expensive...but allows for upgrades in the to larger memory

    Hey Eyecon82,
Thanks for the comment, but I think you got the wrong number, right? Because #2 is cheaper (at least in Newegg.com) and also, if I get 1 slot with 2GB, in the future would be easier to upgrade to 4GB by getting just another 2GB. Or am I missing something here?

    whoops..sorry..i was being dyslexic

I meant i would go with number 1 as it would allow more room for upgrade in the future

exactly!! got it right...this way it would theoretically cost you less in the future to upgrade since you dont have to replace both sticks...just the smaller one

Any comments on the 533MHz compared to 667MHz? I mean, if I just consider to upgrade for this time, is it better to have 2GB at 667MHz or 2.5GB at 533MHz? Thanks!

To answer your question, Read what Gophn said on the first page at the top.

There's something you guys should know when they (frys in this particular matter) label a product "Sold Out". because usually it isn't. When my dad called, they had 28 in stock (for the patriots ram). My theory is that when they are on the verge of going out of stock, they label it as "Sold out" hoping only the smart buyers will call instead of looking at their website that way only a few lucky ones will get it.
So CALL them and ask them if they have some in stock. This can apply to other retailers too.

So I was just about to purchase DDR2 2GB PC5400 SO-D OCZ from FRYs when I checked cpu-z to see what speed my current RAM was using and I was a bit surprised.

    2 x DDR2, PC2-5300 (333 MHz), 512 MBytes, Hyundai Electronics

I currently have 1gb of memory (2x512) but the speed on the RAM is 333 MHz this would mean that when I installed my new 2gb stick at 667 MHz it would only run at 333MHz? Would this be sacrificing a huge part of my power? Would my best option be to buy another 1gb stick at 667 MHz or would it be ok if I only had the 1x 2gb stick at 667MHz?

On a side note, I purchased this laptop in December of 2006 from HP, is it normal for them to put in such crappy RAM?

    Any comments are appreciated.

Corsair 2GB DDR2-667 SODIMM Notebook Memory does not have free shipping anymore

and I havent found many glowing reviews of frys.com(which is what outpost.com is now) so... I might have to stick with newegg.com which is much more dependable...

Fry's was pretty good, I bought a Corsair 2gb ram from them, they charged me tax since I lived in Ohio, but I bought it at 11pm one night, received it 2pm the next day, that's less than 24 hours. I guess it depends on where you live, but I think I'm going to continue to buy from them

I couldn't resist. The Transcend stick is $98.99, but now has an instant $10 off...that combined with the $5 off coupon mentioned above meant I just paid $88.98 for the entire package including shipping. I have a 2GB stick on my new notebook, this means I'm getting 4GB!

    Sweet!

They're going down in the long term, and it doesn't take much to anticipate that. It always has, always will. There's some things you can just expect. You can expect the tide to rise and fall, you can expect the sun to come up tomorrow, and you can expect your tech stuff to lose it's value.

    Hello !
Two new sticks (the same model) from the SAV came back yesterday.
I put them in my Alienware m9750, i remove my battery and press the buton power first for safe manipulation.
    Exactly the same problem ....
    What's that ???????
The only difference between stock memory and crucial is the timming :
5-5-5-13 for stock and 5-5-5-15 for crucial.
Can this be the source of my problem ?
    Can anyone help me ?
    Thanks.

I never said it was 1 2gig stick. Before the 2 one gig kits were going for 65-70 at the beginning of the month. Now it's down to 40. The single stick of 2 gig will come down too, eventually.

    I've got a Qosmio G45-AV680.

    I wanted to upgrade my current configuration of 2GB (2x1) --> 3GB (1x2 + 1x1).

The question I had was with regards to the current 2GB sticks.

Crucial's website lists two versions of their 2GB:

    1) DDR2 PC2-5300
    2) DDR2 PC2-6400

It got me wondering if there was a considerable performance difference between the 6400 vs. the 5300... also will my system:

    (Core 2 Duo / T7300 @ 2.00GHz - Intel Santa Rosa PM965 chipset)

be able to take advantage of the 6400 stick? and if so, does it matter that the 6400 is listed as "unbuffered"?

    Many thanks.

I'm looking to get some new rams but i'm at a dilemma

according to cpu-z i have 2x512mB DDR2 PC2-5300(333MHz) but I was wondering if I can get some PC2-5300(667MHz)? Will this work on my dell vostro 1500 or do I specifically need 333MHz's PC2-5300?

DDR2-667(PC2-5300) is clocked at 333MHZ but due to the Double Data Rate (DDR) it's effective rate is 667MHz so any DDR2-667(PC2 -5300/5400 200pin sodimm) ram should work in your laptop.
