Nope. Even with a 64bit OS, you will not see the full 4GB becuase of chipset limitation(hardware issue).

    -first page of this thread

However, 3GB is plenty for most people.

    Thanks for the reply...

So in the end I think I can get 4GB RAM for < $100, Will it still be worth spending the extra <$50 to go from 2x1 to 2x2GB?

I would have to say 'Yes'. I can only get 3.4GB in Vista/XP (even though I am using a 32-bit OS/x86 CPU) but Vista runs a hell of a lot smoother and I can still run my modules in dual-channel.

Hell. Ram is so cheap it's like taking candy from a baby.. Yum. Got my set for $68 on Frys.com (Outpost).

If you mean the system in your sig, then look for DDR2-667 (PC2-5300/5400) 200-pin So-dimm.

You are looking for a 4GB kit right?

Will you be buying it online or picking it up from a store?

Manufacters are not important when buying laptop memory so just look for the cheapest price on ram that comes with a lifetime warranty.

I bought a pair of PC-6300 PQI's from Newegg last night, in case I decide to upgrade my CPU later to a 800MHz one. I got them for 82 $ shipped in MI.

Check the front page, and look up DDR2 PC5300 RAM. PC6400 RAM is worthless as most computers cannot run it at more than PC5300 speeds.

You also need DDR2 PC5300 RAM.

@Both of you: Laptops ONLY have two RAM slots, so if you want more than 2GB of RAM for instance...you buy one or two single 2GB sticks to make either 3 or 4 GB.

you can only use the $10 google checkout discount once so probably doesn't help most people. Unfortunately most buy.com coupons are for new customers only. They don't seem to value return customers.

The F8SV-A1 can take any 200-pin DDR2 SO-DIMM regardless of speed(mhz). DDR2-667 is recommended since currently no laptop with a Intel mobile chipset can user DDR2-800.

Any DDR2-667 ram including the OCZ ram you intend to buy should work so just get the cheapest stick of ram that has a lifetime warranty( Brand is not important).

I didn't make it over here before this deal at Fry's sold out on the Web site but if any come back in stock, Fry's has a Crucial 2GB stick for $14.99 after a $30 MIR:

    http://shop2.outpost.com/product/54...NFWghwfOQ**.node1?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

There's another deal for 2 1GB sticks for $17.99 after rebate:

    http://shop2.outpost.com/product/52...NFWghwfOQ**.node1?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

The 2x1GB stick product page isn't showing the rebate form but neither was the one above at first. (It's showing up in the search results that there's a rebate.) Here's the search page link that shows the rebate:

    http://shop2.outpost.com/{GDPoAX8Ju...ng=2gb+ddr2+pc5300&cat=&submit.x=0&submit.y=0

The same thing was happening with the 2GB stick that sold out at first. I Emailed customer support about the $14.99 stick showing a rebate on the search page but not the product page and they Emailed me a PDF copy of the rebate form within an hour.

Depending on how much you're willing to pay, you could score this 2GB stick for $30 after a $7MIR. Not as hot as the Fry's deals, but those went ridiculously quick.

can the m9750 use 4GB ram with 64Bit operating system or is the limit part of the parts that the m9750 use.

Nope...it can only see/use 2.5GB even with a 64bit OS. Its a limitation of the chipset.
Take a look at this thread(pay close attention of Gophns post).

Plain and simple no. There is a physical interface problem
    [IMG]
    (notice the size/pin difference)
However, I believe that some mobos accept so-dimm(laptop) modules. Look at the mobo manual.

Yes, you should be able to(I am assuming you have DDR2 in your laptop since I dont believe they make DDR so-dimms at that speeds) .

it's ok if it downclock into 667, but will it has better timing and everything? coz i find out that it will cost me around 10$ more for the 800 RAM. or should i save the $10 and go for 667 mhz?
    thanks

This is what I would do, get the 800Mhz ram, and when you upgrade to the newer Intel mobile platform, you can take advantage of that memory speed.

But then again, many things might happen during that time (you sell your laptop, the Montevina platform uses different memory pin configuration, or whatever).

As for how long, here's an example from my Dell laptop that I had upgraded to 4GB (2x2GB).
